I have John and Margaret Cook Chisam, Isham Russell and Permedia Roberts Chisam (died in Nacogdoches, TX, which is in East TX where I live, here by 1835 Republic of Mexico Census, Sarah Jane Or Flora Ann (MS records has Flora Ann)married Martha Allen Rowland/Roland (don't ask me about the Martha, he was listed with that name, who is the father of my Susan Amanda Rowland/Roland and Joseph Leonard Allsbrooks, as noted on the death certificat of Joseph by my grandfather, James Bleuitt Allsbrooks.

The Roland married into the Thomas and Chisum/Chishum and seemed to have traveled west in groups. I've been told Amanda or Mandy married Lewis Alsobrooks (notice our name is spelled many ways) but I only have one census in LA with that name. They were listed as Brooks in the earlier census, Osbrooks in even earlier census (all in Calcasieu, Lake Charles, LA area and since their son married Margaret (Sarah) Josephine Glass there and all his brothers were listed I'm sure this is his family. Found him looking for my husband's line.

The Frances and Sarah Varner Glass was the father of James Wesley and Sarah Ann Chitty Glass, (Mecklenber Co NC- Coneoh Co, AL) were Jossphine's family, Josephine die in Angelina Co, TX, up the street from where I lived.

Susan Amandy was called "Mandy" and was short, dark, grandpa said she was "Deustch" (yes that's real, understand it was where 3 or 4 countries came together, Germany, Holland, France etc (my memory lapse) basically a valley and they intermarried. There was "White" (blond, blue eye, light skin) and Black (dark hair, skin, eyes) Deustch though they could be in the same family due to inherited traits. Mandy was considered Black deutsch by grandpa, though he called her a "wop". She was short, wore long dark dresses and walked with a limp from an accident in which her carriage overturned and she broke her hip.

If anyone knows anything about this family, or stories, I'd love to hear them. Grandpa Jim was my heart.

James Wesley was a doctor and 3 of his sons as well and I think he may have died in LA but his family settled in Angelina, Tyler, and Harris Co as well as Jefferson Co, TX. Some went back to LA and one is buried in Baytown, TX, one became a minister. Mom knew them and name the children and even wifes though the names are sometimes nicknames.

My grandfather's picked up a lot of medical training from them as the locales brought not only themselves but livestock to him when ill.

They left LA for TX in 1900 before or after and are listed, my ggrandfather and gggrandmother as Alsobrooks and owed delinquent 1900 taxes.

I am looking for a wedding documentation for Mandy Rowland/Rolad and would appreciate it if anyone has that and would share. I will be glad to share my data and you may contact me at ahumble@consolidated.net.

I brave the fruadal world because I want to know more about my family. They lived on the banks of a river in LA around Leesville, LA and Mansfield or Many. Please contact me
Adiene

Maybe you are talking about a different Isham Chisum. I have had info given to me about Isham Russell Chisum botn 1775 VA-1823 or 24 Covington Co, MS, son of John and Margaret Chisum, married Permedia Roberts (1780) so there are more than one Isham.

Interesting comment…”blinded by the facts.” Although I would love to believe the version of the story you tell, and did for decades, unfortunately the facts do tell a different tale. Historians research the data and interpret the facts. We form our hypotheses after gathering the data, not before. Novelists are free to take liberties. The facts are as presented. Period property records and census information coupled with the Johnson will and other forensic matter led me to the conclusion I presented. If you have other data to the contrary I would love to see the documents. Meanwhile I shall have to stick to my position, however unpleasant you may find it. It would be great to have a DNA test done. There are at least two granddaughters of James Chisum, John’s brother, that are still living. I know both. Maybe someday a DNA test will be done to prove the story once and for all.

And you sir are blinded by the facts..Chisum most likely purchased jensie pryor to the children being born and it was later he made it legal his ownership of jensie so that no one could come back and reclaim her espicially after the children where born, over protective to make sure no one was able to take back jensie and his children..it made it binding. Iam no relation but i cant stand closed minded researchers. back then trust started with a handshake then it was later that laws came into play..this is when chisum made his ownership of jensie legal.

Lets not forget this also took place before the civil war,who knew what the outcome would be..

Col. Isham Chisum's Wall of Honor

That Wall of Honor was very special, but needs a few corrections. It says that in 1869 he went to live with his son, Isham Jr, which was incorrect. Isham Chisum was listed as head of household with wife Charlotte Martin Chisum on the 1870 census for San Patricio County, Texas, and Isham Chisum and wife, Charlotte was listed on the 1880 census as living in Bandera County, and again he was head of household. He and his family did go to Mexico for sometime and due to bad health returned to Texas.

Have seen his name with "RUSSELL" as the middle name, which appears to be incorrect. With all the documents that I have in my possession there is NOT a "R OR RUSSELL" anywhere in his name. Have his obituary and it DOES NOT SHOW ANY "R OR RUSSELL" IN HIS NAME.

My family nicknames were also posted and it appears might have been repeated but they were my family's nicknames that were only used in my family. COL. ISHAM CHISUM WAS ONLY MARRIED ONE TIME.

Just wanted to make a few corrections and thanks.

Hi Miuke,
There are two newspaper articles held in a collection at the archives of University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

"This collection contains the newsclipping of articles by Lucy Marion Reaves Utterback that appeared in the Arkansas Gazette during the 1930s and 1940s. The newspaper column was biographical in nature and concentrated on 19th centruy pioneer families that settled in Arkansas, their origins, and contributions to the state."
The articles both concern Mrs Oscar Chisum, but they are biographical in nature, so you just never know what you might find.
Tennessee would be a good place for Oscar's birth or his fathers birth. The Chisum DNA project might also be useful in providing ancestral information.
regards
Robert Chisholm

http://ualr.edu/archives/uploads/2010/05/UALR.0167%20Glimpse...

Oscar Clifton Chisum Sr. is my great grandfather. He was born in either Austin, Arkansas or Tennessee around 1860. He married Catherine (Katie) Sowell in 1892. He built the Chisum House, which is located on Cumberland Street in Little Rock. I am trying to trace back from him, and have no idea who his parents were. In the 1900 and 1910 census, he states his parents were from Tennessee. In 1920, he states they were from Arkansas. I would appreciate any information on him, or his parents. Please leave a message, or contact me at lfmoc@hotmail.com. Thanks- Mike Chisum
Hi Eva:

I'm sending this information that helped me to find out about Milton my grandfather:

"I am trying to find any living relatives. My grandfather was Milton Chisum, his parents were William Chisum and Mary Bass.
My grandmother usLd to talk about my grand fathers brothers and sisters, and I met Lure (hispanizised version of L.R.)Chisum. two sisters Meg, and Mary, another brother William. William and Mary Chisum migrated to Piedras Negras Coahuila, Mexico in the late 1880s or early 1890s, so far as I know with a brother of Mary Bass, and his family. My ggrand parents died in Piedras Negras. All my great uncles and aunts returned to the US. My greatuncle L.R. Chisum remained in Eagle Pass, Texas. I dont know more about their history.
Milton Chisum married Maria Orives and had two daughters, Alicia and Maria Esperanza. Alicia was my mother."

Eva, as you can see their is mentioned Lure is this your father???

Regards,

N.CH.

Eva, sorry for some typograph errors. I would like to clear something that I wrote at the beginning of the previous message. I wanted to make clear that the one that emigrated to Soulth America (Bolivia,Peru) was Milton (I agreed that with Alice according with her recollections) and he is the one that passed away in Bolivia in the 1960s, and that your father Lure (RIchard Lee) his brother, was aware of this got in contact with Alice grandmother and mother.

I hope that my previous message got clear now.
Thanks,

N.CH.

Hi Eva:

I was wrting with Alice MendozaChisumand she told me that she is a granddaughter of Milton too, by the side in Mexico Piedras Negras,sh to and Miltonwas the one that emigrated to South America en the mids. of 1920s. (all thse she recalls from her greandmother's) and she died in Bolivia, She mentioned that in the 1960s. she got in touch with uncle Lure (RIchard Lee) who is Milton's brother, and told them (Alice grandmother and mother) that Milton passed away in Bolivia but was his wish to go back to Piedras Negras but it was too late. This tells me that your dad Lure knew about Milton's whereabouts and they were in touch somehow. Are you in touch with Alice from Mwexico (Monterrey)?? Any how is all of this make sense to you, that means that you are my father's cousin andAlice and myself are your nieces.
I'm glad to discover facts about my Chissum's ancestors. I sent a picture of my granfather Milton at the entrance of a mine in Bolivia, to see if by any means se recognize him from another pictures of the Chisums kept in the family. My father used to tell us that his father Milton used to be 14 sibbligs (I have a picture of some of them and is written at the back "At my house in Tampico", and that his father William (remarried again) in Mexico maybe that's made the 14 at the end.I know that this pictures won't be a great help for you since your father never spoke abut his sibllbings.
It looks that this sibblings were not too closed or open to their feelings when they moved on with their lives. These are my only evidences and my father's recollections as a child ( 6 or 7 years old).
Eva, was nice to know that you are part of the pieces that are coming togehter in my genealogical line of the Chisum's family. I live in Florida and we are six Chissu's sibblings.
I' interested in the Chisum's DNA testing and I already told my brother Dante that lives in Denver Colorado to submit his sample (I was advices that is better a male ssample) to stablish one family line.
Thanks Eva for all what you could say and we'll keep in
touch.
N.CH.

Hi Alicia, if he is the same person Milton Chissum (I recalled that he was named Melington?) he is my grandfagther too. You are right, he was in Bolivia in the 1920s. and he had a son,my father Guillermo Magno (that he called "Billy" and he was born in 1926) with my grandmother Esperanza from Trujillo, Peru. These relationship didn't progress and my fagther use to tell us that when he was 6 years old and before his father returned to USA, he asked my father if he wanted to go with him to USA but my father wanted to stay with his mother.I have pictures of my grandfather standing in front of a mine in Bolivia with mine workers. I have a document with his signature and some pictures of brothers Bill,Anita.....and in the back of pictures is written house in Tampico, and my father kept these pictures from his father.....my father used to tell us that his father sent him letters but his mother didn't encourage a father/son relationship and letters stopped. Melington Chisum was in Peru too because my great aunt used to tell us that she met him. I have a document from Bolivia's Embassy where my father and grandmother got visa to enter that country, south of Peru.
There was a itme, maybe 9 years ago, when I tried to find my gradfather origin but I ecountered with Chisums that the name Melington didn't ring a bell to them, although one explained to me that the Chisums emigrated to other states. My father past away in 1992 and we are six sibblings from Peru. Four (Maria, Teresa, Dora and myself) of us are in USA,one Dante is in Colorado and William is still in Peru.
My email is nellychissum@yahoo.com and my phone is 305-4464696 (after 7.00 pm.)

Nelly:
Hi! My grandfather was not an engineer. However, I think that he did work on the mines in Bolivia. Also yes, he did have family in Tampico.
He must have emigrated to Bolivia in the middle or late 1920's.
Are we related?
My mail is amendozachisum@hotmail.com

I would like to hear from you. Regards

Alicia
