Harold Chittenden married to Marie VanBesien?

Does anyone recognize these names from their tree? I have been trying to track down a line in my VanBesien tree. I located a handwritten family tree made by my grandfather. He shows his father with three brothers. He notes one of these, Henry, had eleven children. One of the daughters, Marie, married a Harold Chittenden. Most likely, Marie's father was born in West Flanders, Belgium. I am guessing on DOB, but most likely arounf 1900 (give or take 10 years)

My Polly is not your Polly, please stop merging them!!!

there are a number of researchers who blindly snapped up my Polly and Sally Chittenden and merged them with Solomon's Polly and Sally. the only thing the two sets of women have in common are names and gender-and maybe Polly's year of birth, which I don't know my Polly's birthdate, but not at all the two Sally's dates of birth. how could you ignore that? or the fact that my Polly was in OH and CT/MA and did not have anything to do with Vermont, or the fact that my Polly had 7 known children, the last born 3 years after your Polly died? go read Hoosier's, Yankees, and Englishmen a Family Record by James Earl Davis, pg's 43 and 81, and you will see that it is so, the two Polly's are not the same ones.

Hello again. Sorry for the delay. The first place we lived, when we came to California, was Hollywood By The Sea, which abutted Hueneme Naval Base. We went into Port Hueneme, on the bus, to pick up kids, on the way to Oxnard Union High School.
My older sister married a SeaBee from the base.
I'll have to dig for the source of America's death, I'll get back to you.

Hello! I don't know if you received any replies, but I am a direct descendant of Nathaniel Chittenden (parents Major John and Joanna Sheaffe) and could possibly help you if you are interested. I'm not sure how this board works, and am only a temporary guest at ancestry.com at this time. Much of the family did relocate to VT. Reply to this post if your are still looking fro information - I have geneologies done by 2 members of my family which may shed some light. thank you! P.Malaney

I know Dudley was born in 1881, died in 1933 or 1934. He was married twice, that I know of. I found a rootsweb with information, but cannot find the contact.

Please contact me if you have any further information or descend from this line.

Thank you,
Shana

Harriet (Chittenden) Loomis Tucker?

I've posted several messages regarding Harriet (Chittenden) Loomis, wife of Jerome B Loomis. Still looking for the source of her parents being Thomas Chittenden and Mary Cavanaugh. There are major problems with this line. I now have documented what I consider proof that her father could not be Thomas Chittenden, the son of Noah and grandson of Thomas, the VT and CT Chittendens that I will share with anyone. He could be another Thomas. However, today I found the following entry in Ancestry under Michigan Marriages to 1850, "Jerome B Loomis married Harriet TUCKER 13 Dec 1846 in Cass County, MI". Was she divorced/widowed from TUCKER or was her name never Chittenden? Anyone have facts? The DOM date is the Loomis DOM date(year only)everyone has used. My email is laxrebel@live.com if you want details on my Thomas report. Will exchange offline with anyone on this mess.

In five Federal Census' for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900, Harriet herself states her age indicating a birth year of 1821, never as 1820, and states that year specifically on the 1900 census; Feb 1821. A date calculator tool always yields 1821 based on the census dates. Was she wrong?

Thomas Chittenden 1791 and dau Harriet problems

Thomas Chittenden 1791-1868, son of Noah, is widely reported as the father of Harriet (Chittenden) Loomis and also notes him living at Jericho, VT until after the death of Noah in 1835, then moving to Granville, OH, evidently to join others already moved there from VT. Many genealogies report only a son Thomas Jefferson Chittenden, born 21 Mar 1820 at Jericho, moved with Thomas to OH ca 1835, and many genealogies don't mention a dau. Harriet at all, so dau. Harriet being born 22 Feb 1820 in Granville, OH seems questionable. The Fassetts of Licking Co., OH by Roger Kohin, pub 1996, says Thomas 1791 married his 1st cousin Sarah Fassett, dau. of Elias Fassett, and notes only the son Thomas Jefferson Chittenden; he does not mention a wife Mary Cavanaugh. Does anyone have the Harriet Chittenden ancestry and this Loomis family straightened out? Is Harriet's father some other Thomas Chittenden?

History of Cass Co., MI, 1882 by Waterman & Watkins, Chicago, mentions on page 227 that Thomas M Chittenden and Harriet Chittenden attended the school sometime after 1830. Could this Harriet be the one b 1821, dau. of Thomas Chittenden 1779, who married Jerome Loomis? Who-where does Thomas M fit in? I'm looking for her mother Mary Cavanaugh and family. This book has Cavanaughs in it too.

I have an old newspaper article/wedding picture of Dorothea Geddes daughter of Mrs. C.P. Geddes of Greenwich, CT. She married Abraham Chittenden. It was published in Leslie's Weekly I believe in the early 1900's maybe 1908. There is also a picture of her bridesmaids (Mrs. Charles B. Parsons, Mary Chittenden, Dorothea Carson, Eva M. Guillauden, Alice Presbrey, Laurada Chipman, Alice Moore and Virginia Geddes). I have scanned it and will be happy to share with decendents.

I have found the following information on Myron Chittenden. Myron was born in 1796 in Vermont. Perhaps in New Haven, Vermont where his wife Polly was born. Polly was born in 1798 in New Haven, Vermont. In 1818, Myron and Polly left Vermont and settled in Gainesville, Genesee County (now part of Wyoming County), New York. In 1845, they went west settling in Avon Township, Lake County, Illinois. Myron died on February 14, 1873 in Avon Township. His wife Polly died on November 13, 1871 also in Avon Township. One of their daughters, Sophia, married James Burge on March 16, 1846 in Lake County, Illinois. Two other children, John and Emily, are also in Lake County, Illinois.

Tom,My name is Graeme John Chittenden, 8th cousin 4 x removed of William Chittenden and Mary Dunster. Our tree has been traced back from South Africa and Australia back to England and we continue with the research. I am intrigued to see that you have information on the family back to Denmark. I would be happy to share our tree with you and would love to get any information on our earlier English roots and the information back to Denmark. I have three Coats-of-Arms, one of which is for the Darlington Chittenden, another one is I believe William of Guilford, the last one we got in South Africa but are not sure it is authentic.
Chittendens of East Malling, Kent

I am tracing the Chittendens of East MAlling,Kent England.

My ggg grandfather was John Chittenden, b, 1780, who first married Mary? and had 3 children, George, Anne & Samuel. He remarried after her death to Sarah? and had another 3 children, Sarah , Mary & John.

I believe John Chittenden,b. 1780, was one of the children of John Chittenden and Margaret Blunden, who married in 1765. Possibly his brother James married a Rebecca Blunden in 1777.

Does anyone know anything earler about these Chittendens?
There were earlier records of Chittendens in East Malling in the late 1500s, but the parish records do not contain anything about them between then and the mid 1700s.

Anne Fowler (nee Chittenden)

David Chittenden of Cleveland, Ohio in 1876

David Chittenden (married) of Cleveland, Ohio is listed among the dead in a train accident.

The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway Train No. 5, The Pacific Express left a snowy Erie, Pennsylvania on the afternoon of December 29, 1876. As The Pacific Express plowed through the snow and crossed a bridge over the Ashtabula River, about 100 yards from the railroad station at Ashtabula, Ohio, the passengers heard a terrible cracking sound. In just seconds, the bridge fractured and the train plunged 70 feet into a watery abyss.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Ashtabula Bridge Disaster." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://home.alltel.net/arhf/bridge.htm
I am trying to trace the Chittendens back through their Kent, UK line. Does anyone have any information on the earlier family of David Chittenden, b. 1786 who married Elizabeth?

Did you ever find out this information? We have the pistol he carried in the Civil War. My husband is descended from him through his sons, James Willis (adopted) and Amos Brunson Chittenden.
