Classification: Query
Surnames: Chivington, Runyon, Girardin
I am a descendent of Col. John M. Chivington: His daughter Sara m. William Bernard Girardin, their son Lewis was my Grandmother's father ... which makes me his g. g. g. granddaughter.

There is a lot of family history in the Chivington's that is not reflected in these posts that might perhaps change how some of you view the Chivington name.

First, Chivington was NOT court martialed... there were attempts but as he had already mustered out prior to Sand Creek, a court martial was impossible.

Second, Chivington's daughter, while held captive by a Ute tribe, was raped and gave birth to a daughter fathered by Captain Jack. She also adopted several Navajo children who had been captured by the Utes. Her father and first husband rescued her and the children which she raised as her own.

I have a lot more family history and am currently working on the Runyon side of the family, which Chivington's mother is a descendent of. Happy to share any info I have that you might like.
