I believe John Chorlton (B. 2 Apr 1786) married
Hannah Seel (B. 12 Jun 1791.) They married 12 Oct 1807, St. Michael's, Ashton.
I found a listing for John Chorlton (B. 1786) died 4 Sep 1837, burried at English Cimitero, Livorno Toscana, Italy.

ADMIN NOTE:

It will be easier for someone to help if you'll provide some locations and say exactly what information you're seeking.

It also helps to type surnames in all caps. That makes it easier for fellow researchers to spot the last names.

Good luck!

Hello, the James E Chorlton 1882-1917 to whom you refer was the Great-Uncle of my Husband Michael. We feel saddend and ashamed that we only "discovered" him a couple of weeks ago.
James Edward was the youngest child of Joseph and Elizabeth Chorlton(nee Schofield)and youngest of Michael's Grandfather Thomas family. We cannot understand why there has never been a single mention of him especially on Rememberance Sunday each year,it was a particular shock as Michael past the War Memorial in Slaithwaite on which his name is inscribed hundreds of times going about his everyday life.We have also discovered that he is buried and Memorialised at Tyne Cott War Cemetery in Flanders and that he married Jessie Hawley on 1 May 1915 at Helme Parish Church,we have so far no futher information. We shall of course be honouring his memory this Rememberance Sunday.
If anyone has any information regarding John Chorlton born abt 1801 Newcastle and Hannah Hirst parents of Joseph I would be greatfull having met a brick wall.

Hi,

I'm researching Charles Chorlton (c. 1754 Manchester, Lancashire, England) who married Ann Sellars (though I don't know a marriage date).

I believe his father to be John Chorlton and him to have 2 siblings: James Chorlton (c. 1747) and Dinah Chorlton (c.1753)

Charles died in 1802 in Manchester.

Charles and Ann had 8 children in Ardwick in Manchester:

John Chorlton (1786)
James Chorlton (1789)
Edward Chorlton (1790 - 1791)
Edward Chorlton (1791 died as infant)
Dinah Chorlton (1792: married George Gyte in 1824 and James Watts in 1839. She died in 1843)
Edward Chorlton (1794)
Mary Chorlton (1796)
Charles Chorlton (1799)

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated,

Hope to hear some news soon!
Kathryn Horsfall

I have a mystery with my great grandfather, Edwin Gee.
According to his death certificate in 1925, H W Chorlton was listed as Edwin's step brother/ informant. Edwin did not have any step brothers that I am aware of, so maybe H W was a friend or another type of relation?
H W was born in 1865, and his father was Robert Chorlton.
H W was the same age as Edwin Gee. That is the only thing they had in common, besides living together, when Edwin died, may have been Romiley, Werneth, Godley ( where Edwin lived )
or close relations such as Bardsley, Haughton, Linney and Greenwood.
Thank you,
Ruth

I have found out quite a bit of information from the area called the Salford Hundreds and I am finding my Gee's in Haughton possibly originally from Chester and Manchester.
Are Chorley and Chorlton related names?

James Chorlton, Withington

I have recently started researching my Chorltons and am looking for James Chorlton (b~1825) - father Thomas Chorlton (b~1800), mother Sarah Broadey (b~1803), wife Ann Axon (b~1823). 3 children - Elizabeth (b~1848), William (b1849) and John (b~1855). They were a farming family, latterly at Underbank Farm, Withington. Another branch of the same family (James' brother William) was at Broad Hill Farm, Withington.

I think James died young (pre 1868) but have so far failed to trace his death. Can anyone help with any info either about James, his siblings or any branch of that family please?
I quite understand your frustration. But just to let you know that you are not the only Deborah Chorlton - my cousin is !
Her father was Harold Chorlton. The surname Chorlton mostly comes from Chorlton near Manchester and it would appear that way way back a great number of people who lived in that area took Chorlton as their surname. I have been trying to trace my Mother's line back and it is almost impossible - sorry. Dee

I have to admit I am frustrated!!!! I can not believe that there are so few Chorltons in the world today that I can not find a relation. I have visited all the web sites. I have read all the messages. I have spent hour, days, weeks, moths, years trying to find a connection. I find it inpossible to believe that wiith a name like ours, we are not all connected in some way. In some way, in some year our relatives knew were related to each other. My name is Deborah Lynn Chorlton, my father was David John (Jack) Chorlton, his father was James Edger Chorlton his father was Edmund Chorllton, and I believe but can not confirm that his father was Edmund Chorlton. I believe that this family was very poor. All records indicate that they were pasture farmers. However, Edmund Jr. had several children. Where are his decendense?

Anyone out there that knowes anything about this family, I need to hear frrom you.
