Hi, I was just reading about the Ankeny's and Chorpennings on this site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ankeny/Ank...

My GGGG Gpa Christian Rice was friends with these families (maybe even related) when he lived in Somerset, and even became guardian of Jacob Chorpenning after Jacob's father died. I'm trying to find the connection. Sue (Rice) Morris

Adeline/Adelaide/Ada Chorpenning

I am looking for the parents of Adeline or Adelaide or Ada Chorpenning. I have seen all 3 names used on the various pieces of information I have about her. She married John Brunner and is listed as Adeline with him in Plum, Allegheny, PA on the 1860 census. John Brunner died during the Civil War and she later married someone named Porter, as she is listed on the 1890 Veteran's Schedule in Pittsburgh as Ada Porter. She is listed as "Adelaide Chorping" on her daughter's death certificate.

I have found an Adeline Chorpenning on the 1850 Census in Somerset, PA, who is living in a "Taverne" with Simon Chorpenning's family. Simon is definitely not old enough to be her father, maybe he is her brother, cousin?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.
Thank you for responding. It has been awhile since I have been researching. I have not found conclusive evidence that my great great great grandfather Daniel was the brother or nephew of George of Somerset who supposedly went to CA to run mail. There is a family geneology of George of Somerset and I will send that to you if you wish. I have to look it up to find the marriage of George. If you have any information about a Daniel Chorpenning who mostly lived in VA and Carlisle area of PA, please let me know. I am looking for parents or siblings of Daniel (T?) Chorpenning (1821-1901)

George Chorpenning, Jr was married twice. I believe the first wife was Elizabeth Flick. The second wife was Caroline MacLellan (1840-)?Unless I am confusing generations of Georges.
Maria

Would your history have any mention of a Reuben Chorpenning? I don't know the name of his father, but his nother was Sarah Jane (maiden name unknown). Srah later married Levi Kahney - she died in 1880. Reuben was born in 1871, I think in Perry County, PA. He later lived in Harrisburg, was married with three daughters. Any information you could give me would be appreciated.

See the Dictionary of American Biography, v. 2, p. 91 - 92, for an article on George. This is a standard work and most libraries will have it. That article gives parents as George and Elizabeth (Flick) Chorpenning. Article says that George the 2nd of seven children, but thay are not named. Lists additional sources.

I have a history of the Chorpenning family of Somerset county, PA. It mentions Joseph Chorpenning born 12/12/03 who was married twice: to Mary Shultz on Feb. 28, 1828, and they had three children (Louisa, Savilla, and Oliver J.) Joseph Chorpenning's first wife died June 13, 1859. His second wife was Catherine Boucher, no issue. There is no mention of the other names in your message.
