Jenna,
It is quite possible that we are related, although I don't know much at all about this side of the family. Do you know when your Joseph may have been in Chicago, where he may have lived within the greater Chicago area, and who he would have lived with at the time (wife, children, other relatives)? Were there any Victoria's? This would really help determine if our lines are related! Are you aware of any any other first names of these folks? I look forward to any information you may know.

Not sure if we're related... but how many Chowaniecs can be out there? My great grandfather was a Joseph Chowaniec, born in Zywise, Poland in 1885 and immigrated here around 1909. He came through NY with his wife Regina and my grandfather and great-aunt. I know they lived in Chicago for a while before moving to Saginaw, MI. He died in Arkansa.

Any connection?

Jenna Chowaniec Gormley

Louis Chowaniec

I am looking for info. on Louis Chowaniec. He was born in Poland, and lived in South Milwaukee or Cudahy Wisconsin. He died around 1918 in wisconsin. His wife was Voctoria/Victoria, and they had 4 children at the time of his death. By the 1930 census Victoria seems to have remarried to John Morawiec and the spelling of the children is Chovanec.

CHOWANIEC / OLSZEWSKI / PEDZIWIATE - Illinois, Indiana, NY & poss Michigan

I am looking to connect with anyone who might be related to my ancestors, beginning with my second great-grandmother Victoria CHOWANIEC (or HOWANIAC, or other spelling), born in Poland about 1850. Victoria had at least one son, my great-grandfather Joseph (Josef or Jozef) OLSZEWSKI, who was born in Grojec, Oswiecim, Poland and immigrated to the US in March 1906 on the USS Patricia. The passenger list shows he was going to the residence of his uncle, Josef CHOWANIEC in Hegewisch, Illinois. It is possible that the CHOWANIECs ended up in the Michigan area. Josef OLSZEWSKI eventually settled in Buffalo, NY, married Rozalia LEKKA (LEKKO?) and had one daughter, Helen Rose OLSZEWSKI, before his death in May 1927, at age 40. The family kept up with relatives in East Chicago, Indiana. They called them "cousins", but I don't know if they were related to the CHOWANIEC side or possibly the LEKKA/LEKKO side. These relatives were PEDZIWIATE and settled in East Chicago before 1910. Andrew and Mary PEDZIWIATE had 4 children - Aniela (Angeline), Joseph, Walter & John. Angeline and Walter were close to my family in Buffalo, NY - they would come to visit Joseph, Rose and Helen, and my family would go to see them in East Chicago, Indiana. This continued into the 1940's - I have photos of my grandmother Helen with Walter and Angeline. Angeline's daughter Sylvia KOLISC (sp?) was a bridemaid in Helen's 1946 wedding in Buffalo, NY. I would like to connect with anyone who might have ties to any of the above people.
