I just found a business card in my family's old photo collection. It reads, Robert K. Christenberry- Postmaster, New York, NY

My grandfather, Solomon Schiff also worked for the post office in those days and may have known him. I know this isn't much information, but I found the card and figured I'd Google the name.

My GG Grandfather was Travis Christenberry Jernigan of Richmond County, NC. Does anyone know of a Christenberry family living in Richmond County in the early 1800's. Is it possibly a Quaker name? I am thinking he was named for a grandparent.

Thank you so much for posting this! It helped clear up a few questions about Corinne. Her given name at birth was Vera and apparently her middle name was Corinne, which she must have started using as an adult. The D stands for Doughty, the family line to which I'm related. I also found your photo of her father August Doughty's tombstone in Moore Memorial Garden.

Please contact me if any of this information sounds like it might fit your family lineage. We have lots of details behind Mary going back several centuries.

Re: Christenberry family from IL IN

Hi,
I just started researching my family roots about six months ago and just discovered this site. A day late and a dollar short so they say. Anyway, if you see this I would appreciate a response from you regarding the family in the Illinois and Indiana areas. I am related to Rev. Elmer Howard Edwards and Lula Ethel Christenberry. They were my grandparents. They lived in Indiana until(I think) about 1913. They then moved to Illinois, I believe the Zanesville area. My mother was born in Assumption,Christian,Illinois in 1915. My aunt Madge was older, born in 1913 so I'm not sure if she was born in Zanesville or Assumption. I will have to ask my cousin. They had six children. The oldest, a boy, Harold LeRoy was born in Indiana in 1912 and died there on 17 Dec 1912. I have a lot more information if you need it. I know you have been researching much longer than I so you may already have this information. However, I do know from my own searching that it is harder to fine recent information than the older. Happy to help anyway I can if you need it. Also would appreciate anything you might have that would help me.
Hope that you see this and reply. Thank you. By the way my name is Beverly and my e-mail address is: beefchatti@nerzero.com.
Hi,
I sent you a reply yesterday regarding Joseph Christenberry and his spouse Mary and family. I noticed you had Mary BELLE according to my family information and what I have found in my research he was married to Mary I ( I think maybe Isabelle but no sure) Moore. I have a copy of the Indiana Marriage of Joseph Christenberry and Mary I Moore in Daviess County,Indiana on 14 Oct 1883. You may already have this information but thought I'd pass it on. I know that this was posted in 2001 but am hoping that you will check for replies and respond to me. I gave you the e-mail address yesterday but will give it again. beefchatti@netzero.com
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Bev

I just started researching the Christenberry and Edwards families about six months ago. I haven't gotten to far back in the family but the Lula Christenberry you mentioned was my grandmother. She married Elmer Howard Edwards in Daviess County,Indiana. They were married 31 Oct 1911 and had six children. A son Harold LeRoy born in 1912 and died in Dec 1912. They were in Indiana. They later moved to Illinois where the rest of the children were born. My grandmother's brother William married my grandfather's sister Clara. I could go on but don't know how much information you have or how much you need. PLEASE e-mail me. I would like to get any information you might have that I don't have. Again I've just started.
My name is Beverly and my e-mail address is: beefchatti@netzero.com. I know you posted your query in 2007 so you may have all the information you need but would still like to see what you might have.
Thank you for any help you can give me and will be glad to fill in any blanks I might have.
Bev
P.S. My grandmother was Lula Ethel Christenberry. My great grandfather married again after my great grandmother Anna died. He married Lillie Jane Lamb and had several children. My great aunt Flossie was the last child my great-grandmother had. I thinl Hilda was the first child with Lillie. Sorry for going on so much I just excited that I found someone researching my family. It sounds like you are a decendent of my Uncle Bill and Aunt Clara.

Do you have that family living in VA at any point?

Also, did you find anything on his father (and up?) or mother? Many thanks in advance.
Hello,
I have Christenberry's in Arkansas.
I realize that this may not be your Martha, but this family traveled to Arkansas with the Pearson/Christenberry/Hunter families. There may be a clue in there somewhere. They went through Mississippi and some children were born there before going on to Arkansas.
My greatgreatgrandmother, Martha Christenberry married William Bill Pearson. They lived in Lawrence County, Alabama. Then moved to Van Buren County, Arkansas. My Martha Christenberry was b. Aug 11 1840 in North Carolina. She died in 1881 in Van Buren County, Arkansas. She's buried in the Old Liberty Cemetery with several other family members. Some in the family remember hearing from older members, that some of them died during a typhoid fever epidemic.
I am currently still looking for her siblings and cousins. My Martha's parents were Thomas G Christenberry and China Green. I think there was a Silas Christenberry next to Thomas in Forsyth County Georgia, before they moved to Alabama, then Arkansas. There's a Christenberry Book includes this family, and a lot more. I'm trying to get a copy, but waiting on an e-mail from the publisher.
Hope to hear soon.
Let me know if you want me to send you more information.

Donna,
Your Lydia Elizabeth Christenberry was the daughter of
William Henry & Martha (MCCOY) CHRISTENBERRY.
Martha was William Henry's first wife. They married and had
two daughters. Then apparently William Henry left Martha and the two girls and went into the Indian Territory (later
OK) about 1895. He was married twice after going into the
Ind. Terr./OK.
More information on this couple is included in the CHRISTENBERRY/CHRISTENBURY Genealogy.
