Tom,
I am helping a friend with his family tree. Nicholas Christoffel is a descendant of his. I see in one message you listed Nicholas' birth and being in 1845 and in another in 1843 and his death in 1891.
The information I have lists his birth as 4/4/1845 and his death as 9/29/1922. I have found him in the census reports up to 1920. Can you give me any clarification on this?
If you want you can email me at dschulz@myexcel.com with Christoffel in the subject line. I would appreciate whatever help you can give me. Deb Schulz

I found this website and MY Christoffel John/Joannes 1812 is on it as is your Angela Herriges/Herrigs and her Christoffel kid or kids. Also many hore Herrigs, and I believe Angela's birth record as well. These are church records from KRUV as they list it. This is actually Krov/Kroev/Croev. Maybe this will help you, and maybe somehow we can also connect the dots with our clans. Unfortunately for me, no dad is listed, so now I'm wondering if my guy was illegitimate or dad just was not listed. According to his death cert. his dad was Jacob, and mom was Elizabeth. Elizabeth Christoffel is the name of the mother of John 1812 on the record at the following website.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pick/kruv5...

Hmmm. My John H b1859 says in all the census that he is from Germany and his wife likewise, have no sibs for him, just know he lived in Aurora the bulk of his children stayed there also. Just talked to my Mother in law (this is her Mother's family) all she knows is her Grandad Peter, son of John H came to Iowa from Aurora to work for a farmer and stayed. All of his family were/are still in Aurora. She is going to get in touch with her cousins in Aurora and see what they know. If a connection is made to your Christoffel's I will get in touch with you again. Thank you for replying.
Happy hunting
Nillarita

The John I have, son of my great-great grandfather John was born 1855-1856 in Illinois;either in Evanston or Chicago wold be my guess. I found a marriage for him under CHRISTOPHEr Mar 17, 1877 in Cook County, Married to a Mary C. Johansen b. 1854-1855 in WI. Her parents born Canada.Other son of elder John was a Jacob b. abt. 1863 in IL;again assuming either Evanston or Chicago. For both boys, I also would not rule out a possible Aurora, IL birthplace.

Christoffel b May 1859 Germany m 1884 to Elizabeth Berg b Jan 1860 Germany. Know the names are correct, the births are close, and Germany/Prussia/Bremen. Have their children and down but nothing up. Do you have any info on them?

Re: Any Christoffels with an "s" from Holland?

We believe our Christopher/Christoffel family is the one that emigrated from Holland to Staten Island, NY. We have had some DNA testing done and found another family to whom we are definitely related. They show a pedigree back to Hans Christoffel.

You might be interested to know, however, that their DNA shows a Norwegian root. That's not surprising since Hans wife was Trynjtie Blom who was born in Stockholm as were her parents.

I would be very interested in your research.

Regards,

Elaine Pavone
(mother-in-law of Jack Leland Christopher, Jr.)

When and where was Jacob born? Any idea who his parents were? If you look below in previous threads, I corrected some of my initial info. and my g-g grandfather was actually John, and HIS dad was Jacob Christoffel, who was said to have abt. 22-23 kids from 2 marriages, or it's John who had all of the kids;family seems not to have first names straight, so who knows?. Also mention has been made by elderly family members of property in Aurora, Kane County, Illinois and my g-granfather Frank's older sibs from marriage one (if John is the one w/all the kids) got all the property and the 2nd set of kids nothing, or John is the one who got short-changed. This was all done before Jacob (or is it John?) died, and lots of Christoffels there in Aurora area also. Hard to make sense of it all.I just can't make the connection to 2 Rivers or Aurora yet. Frustrating.

John had a son Jacob b.abt. 1863 in Illinois(Chicago or Evanston), who I thought ended up in Missouri, but later found that THAT Jacob had a Henry as his father, if one is to believe info. on his death certificate. I do believe there is a connection to the Two Rivers area Christoffels and my Chicago Christoffels, thinking perhaps John b.Sep 22 1812 in Croev/Krov, Rheinland, Prussia (I think that's by the Belgium or Luxembourg border), and did not die in 1918, but on Feb. 28, 1893 in Chicago, had brothers, one who I think is Matthias Christoffel, who went back and forth from IL to WI, as did his sons. John may have had a mother named Elisabeth.

My Christoffels have had various records under CHRISTOPHER and CHRISTOPHEL also. The surname Christoffel is a diminutive variation of CHRISTOPHER, from what I've been able to gather.

Obituary of Commander George W. Christoffel, d. 2/28/1975 in Merrick, NY

Commander George W. Christoffel, U.S. Navy (Ret.) died at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre on Friday, February 28, 1975, at the age of 70. Commander Christoffel was the son of Major John B. Christoffel and Mrs. Isabelle Pasco Christoffel, who came to Merrick from Brooklyn, New York in 1910. He is survived by his sister, Louise, with whom he made his home at 1814 Yale Road after being released from the Naval Hospital in 1947, where he was being treated for injuries received during World War II. He is survived also by a brother, John, of Richmond, Virginia, who is a noted antiquarian. Miss Christoffel had been associated with the Merrick Library for many years. Commander Christoffel entered the Navy early in 1942 as a Senior Grade Lieutenant and served under Admiral Nimitz in the China Seas. Before entering the service he was manager of tours and conventions with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad in Richmond, Virginia. Memorial Services were held at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City, at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 3. Memorials may be given to the Endowment Fund of the Cathedral or to the American Lung Association, Roslyn, New York.

Christoffel family in Illinois - Kane, DuPage, and Kendall counties

I am seeking information on the relations of Peter Christoffel, born Oct 1864 in Luxemburg or Germany. He married Margaret (Maggie) Romes in Kane County, Illinois, on 6 Oct 1887. Peter and Margaret had at least six children:
Joseph b. 24 Jun 1889
George J b. 6 Mar 1891
Elizabeth b. 14 Feb 1893 (married Peter Frank Heinz)
Jenny b. Mar 1894 (married ? Weirich)
Helen b. about Jun 1896/1897 (married ? Somek)
Frank J b. Jan 1898

Peter may have been related to John H Christoffel, born May 1865 in Germany or Luxemburg, who married Christina/Christena Romes on 25 Nov 1891 in Kane County, Illinois. It looks to me like two brothers marrying two sisters, but I have no proof. John and Christina had at least six children as well:
Joseph b. Jul 1893
Lizzie b. Nov 1894/1895
Elsie b. about 1896
Katie b. Jul 1897
Annie b. about 1900/1901
Margaret b. about 1902/1903

Any information on the Romes family would also be much appreciated, as I have nothing on them other than what is above.

Bob's wife's mother was a Christoffel. You are on the tree, but we're missing lots of your family's info. as well as that of your dad's siblings., so would like to contact you via e-mail. Have more to say regarding tracing further back in private(have a promising lead on someone who did just that, but haven't heard back from her in awhile), so please contact me at gillin5@ticon.net.
Thanks, Jerry, that is more than I have. Have you seen any info on the parents of Leon Bordelon? My husband's grandfather, Fulgence Lewis Bordelon, was another child of Leon & Valentine's, but he dropped out of sight in the 1930s, leaving his wife & children so no one in the family knows anything about his lineage. What I know I found in a wedding annoucement for Fulgence Lewis & his bride, Emma D. Malloy & their marriage licence.

I Think that Leon may have been a desc. of Zenon Bordelon thru his son Louis(?) but haven't found any info on Louis' children.(sorry I don't have my reference here).

Anything else you might find would be greatly appreciated. I have been searching for nearly 3 years & this is about all I have found. Thanks again, Suzanne Bordelon

If I have the correct Steven Christoffel, I believe I have his death certificate. Did he die in Chicago? I have many Christoffel Cook County death certificates. For Steven, spelled Stephen, he was age 94 and 4 months, born Germany. He lived 34 years in Chicago. He died June 24, 1906,was widowed, and died at 131 W. 21st Street,Chicago. He is on 1888 and 1890 or 1892 voter's reg. in Chicago, and was naturalized in Manitowoc County, so believe it's right man. He is buried in St. Boniface Cemetery in Chicago. Also remember seeing a Jacob Christoffel on voter's reg., and he was born in WI. Believe he lived with Stephen, so could be his son? I also have a Jacob Christoffel, brother to Frank, my great-grandfather. My Christoffels are also buried in St. Boniface, so thinking there is a family connection;or at least I hope so.
Christoffel Family-Illinois

Great-great grandfather was John Christoffel. He was born in Prussia 1811-1812(per various census records). Wife was Mary, born 1821-1822. 1860 and 1870 Census records list the family as Christopher. 1860 location was New Trier Township,Cook County, Illinois. Children living then were Elizabeth age 10,Catherine, age 7(both born Prussia) Rosenna age 5 born Illinois,John age 3, born Illinois, and Mary age 1, born Illinois. 1870 census has same children(Elizabeth is Lizzie, and Catherine is Katie). Other children are Christina age 19,born Prussia(don't know why she's not on 1860 census) then Peter age 9,Jacob age 7, and Frank age 3, all born Illinois. Frank is my great-grandfather. I believe Christina married Adam Mares. 1870 census has family living in Evanston, Cook County, Illinois. John Sr. is farmer in 1860, and 1870. In 1880 he is listed as John Christoffel, which is how name is currently spelled. He is living in Lake View neighborhood of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, and listed as Market Grocer. Had heard John was into raising cucumbers for some local pickle factory at one time. Any info. on the Christoffel children appreciated. Linda Ossler
