Jim,
I have a typed and many times photocopied document titled The Christy Family In America, by Eleanor Christy Kramer and Margaret Christy Ackerman. This document was in the possessison of my wife's grandmother Helen Allen Christy of Kinsman, Ohio, and she gave it to my father-in-law.
My knowledge is purely based on this document, plus an occasional verification on the internet.(I saw the same male line that leads to her recently on a Christy Forum I guess it was).
The document states that "Andrew Christy was born in Northern Ireland, in or near County Louth (lieth), as Lurgan Greene was their marketplace. He came to America from the county of Ulster, Londonderry, in the year 1762 and landed at Philadelphia, Pa. He brought with him his three children James, John and Ann. It is belived that his wife died previous to his coming to America as there is no record of her landing. Her name was either Mary of Margaret Wilson.
The original home of the family was in Scotland, their residence in Ireland probably dating back to the colonizing scheme of King James in 1608-1610. There are papers in which the name of John Christie of the Parish of Jaeburgh appears, which seems to indicate the original home and the old way of spelling the name.
In America he lived for a few years in Mifflin County, Pa. Then he moved to Salem Cross Roads, Westmoreland County, Pa, where he lived until his death (exact year unknown, EV). The two sons each purchased a farm there but sold later and went farther west.
He is probably buried at the Concord Cemetary, where a number of his descendants are interred. He weas a Presbyterian, as were his children.'"
The line of my wifes descendancy is thus:
Andrew's son James Christy, born ca. 1752, Northern Ireland married Mary Campbell in Butler Pa. on Jan 5, 1774.
He died Nov 15 1833, she died Mar 11 1790.
James' son Andrew Christy was born June 20 1776. He married Elizabeth McConnell on Dec 12 1812. He died May 3 1863 Kinsman, Oh, she died Aug 4 1863, same place. She was born ca 1796, place unknown.
Andrews son William Reed Christy was born June 15 1828,Kinsman. He married Caroline A. Brooks, born April 2, 1834. place not known. Date of marriage Oct 22 1856, Kinsman Oh. He died Dec.16 1907, she died May 11 1858, same place.
Williams son Lauren Davis Christy was born Sept 25, Kinsman. He married Jessie Amanda Allen, born Nov 23, Kinsman. Date of marriage not mentioned. Lauren died Nov 25 1891, Kinsman, Jessie died Aug. 3,1939, Kinsman.
Laurens daughter Helen Allen Christy was born Febr. 26,1897, Kinsman. She married Mario Montessori Dec. 5 1917 in San Diego Cal. Helen followed instruction courses by Maria Montessori there and Maria's only son Mario fell in love with Helen, they married very young and went back to Italy with Maria Montessori.
On the internet I found an old map of the Kinsman township (year 1856) which shows a lot of Christy farms and some Allen farms a little East of the center of Kinsman.
I hope you can give some info on the wifes, research from here is difficult...!
Best, Ed
