According to the info I have Adam Chrystie died while on a visit to his home in Stranraer, Scotland, in 1812. His wife Charlotte predeceased him on May 5, 1809 in Nassau, Bahamas. To date, only two daughters are identified, Charlotte, a spinster at the time of her father's death and her elder sister, Wm Mina [Wilhelmina] who married a Loyalist, John Knox, Esq in January of 1800.

Ann, would like to discuss further with you. I am also working on the Bahamian Christies as I am of that line. Could you email me at bennerp@aol.com. As you can see I have no record of an Elizabeth.

Priscilla

I read your post with great interest. I am trying to discover the link between Adam Chrystie and Christie descendants in the Bahamas. I have the following information to share, but it doesn't solve my challenge!

On 22 May 1799, John Chaldwin, of the 32nd Regiment, married Elizabeth Christie. On September 3, 1799, John Knox married Wilhelmina Chrystie - source: Christ Church Marriage Records. Is Elizabeth a daughter of Adam?

Thanks for any information available to share.

Ann

Chrystie Heraldry Online

For those who are interested in the heraldry, or Coats of Arms, associated with the Christie, Christy & Chrystie surname , they are now displayed online at:

www.heraldry-online.org.uk

The Arms are those that are officially recorded in Scotland at the Lyon Court (1672-1973). It must be noted that the Arms displayed are the property solely of those named or their descendants. They cannot be used by anyone else, even if they do share the same surname.

It is worth mentioning that the some families were not very good at registering their Arms as required by Scottish law. Therefore, there may be other Arms in use of some antiquity, however, they are not technically legal in Scotland until recorded, or matriculated, with the Court of Lord Lyon.

In addition to the Arms officially recorded in Scotland, there are Arms belonging to other named individuals listed in other reliable, but unofficial, publications.

Stephen

Jean de Christains

Hello,

Family history tells of a Count Jean de Christains, a protestant from Geneva Switzerland, and a Captain of the Swiss Guard in Paris before and during the French revolution. He was later an officer in the French army under Napoleon and imprisoned for six months by Napoleon because he was a royalist. He escaped with his wife Suset Brudit de Christains (also of Geneva) and his familiy to the United States via Belgium. They arrived in the United States in 1803 and eventually moved to Pittsburgh, Cinncinatti, Louisville and Jeffersonville Indiana.
The story passed down through the family can be found at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~incccpc/clarkbios/DeChristainsFamil...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I can not find information concerning this family besides what was passed down through the family.

Thank you,
Chris
pioneergenealogy@hotmail.com

Adam Chrystie William McPherson Christie

Adam Chrystie,Esq was Probably born about 1745, perhaps in Stranrear, County of Wigton, Scotland. Member of House of Assembly in West Florida, Speaker of the House. Arrived in West Florida prior to 1774. Captain of West Florida Royal Foresters, August 25th 1781, and led one or two other troops of dragoons in 1780. Participated in battles at Mobile and Pensacola. Returned to New York and at some point returned to Scotland/England for 3 years to educate his children. Appointed 1st Secretary of The Bahamas and arrived there in 1790. Wife Charlotte, two daughters, Charlotte and Wilhelmina (?). I would like to find out if he had other children and if he resided in any other part of the Colonies. I am looking for the connection from Adam to William McPherson Christie,Esq m. Mary Deane in the Bahamas. Their first child was born in 1817, so I would guess he was born before 1797. Perhaps he was a child of Adam.

I am looking for people related to the Chrystie family from Upper Darby PA. I was married to Edward Roger Chrystie from that area in 1967. I know he had relatives from RI.He had an older brother named Robert a sister named Ruth. She had a daughter named Cynthia, so also had a son. Can't remember his name. Robert owned property in Chatham,MA,his wife's name was Murial. He was alot younger then his brother or sister. His Mother died soon after we were married. The main reason I am interested in this is I have two sons with the name Chrystie, spelled the why your named is spelled. It is very unusual to see it spelled that way. My sons would like to know where they come from.
