Hi,
My name is María José and I am from Lima, Perú.
My mother's grandfather was from China and his surname was Chung, also. My mom says that when she was little and asked his grandfather his name, he said "Chung Fuc Siu" or something like that. Apparently he was also from Canton and had to escape from Mao's Revolution, I would say that in the late 1890s or early 1900s. His mother put him in a ship and payed for the captain to save (he was injured), knowing that she would never see her son again. Before arriving to Peru he was in Europe for a few years, I believe.
I would really like to find any relatives I could have.

I am also Jose Chung residing in the Philippines, per my understanding my ancestor came from Macau. I am also interested to know more about my ancestor.

I would be interested to know what your interest, in them, their graves and their descendents, is.

I suppose, as with all families, there are those who are prudent and those who are not. While I would not call myself wealthy, I hardly qualify as poor. And as far as I know, the rest of my uncles, aunts and cousins, all live comfortable lives.

What are the decendents doing now? I hear some of them became very poor and unsuccessful. True or false.

There's one book have all biographies of Chung family in Malaya.It's was pre-war book.Title,'The(I can't remember the least title).My friend had two original photograph of Chung Thye Phin taken in Penang during pre-war.It was bigger than postcard size.And he plan to sell it.

I had been reading some of the messages posted, I believe that 90% of the Chung are originally from Kwantung - China, and maybe we are all families. I will like to contact as much people with surnames Chung.

My family came to Panama and i don t know when, but it seems to be a long time ago, i believe about 8o years.

My great grandfather's name is Ah Ken Chung. He came from China with 11 brothers. My grandfather's name is Edward Akiona. We were told from Ah Ken Chung, our name changed to Akiona. The traveled from China to California to work on the railroad and then unto Hawaii. I believe some stayed in California. I don't have any other information yet. Thank you all of your assistance. My husband's surname is Chung, his racial heritage is a mixture of Chinese, Creole (black), Portuguese, Hindu, and Amerindian (native of South America). This mix ocurred in the Caribbean and Guyana region; in our case the Caribbean island involved was Barbados, but for your family it is Jamaica. I suggest you visit "rootsweb.com/~guycigtr" for additional info. I visited Suriname this year and in that area it is common for someone to be 'black' with a Chinese name - not just Chung. Good luck!

I just visited your website, it's terrific! My father-in-law (Royce Chung) is visiting from Suriname, he's very interested. His mother's name was Diana Hung-Hoo, his father was Samuel Chung. Your research will help - thank you.

Hello Chris:

Several Hakkas were acquired to go to work on the sugar plantations in the West Indies during the period 1853-1879. The 385 passengers on one boat in particular, "Dora" (1860), consisted of Hakka families recruited for Guyana (then called British Guiana)

If you can provide some more information about what you know about your Chung ancestry then perhaps there may be some clues to be found among the databases that I have. E.g. do you know the names, dates and locations for your ancestors, including names of spouses?

My great-grandfather and HIS father (both dead before my birth) went from China to Guyana or Trinidad (lived in both, not sure which one first). They spoke Hakka and were Christian. Seems like a hopeless search but - does anyone have info?

Double hyphenated surnames, especially with -A- in the middle are very prevalent among the Chinese in Guyana and although this is not a phenomenon unique to Guyana, the practice has become predominantly Guyanese for historical reasons. Hi--Just checking to see if any-one is related to my adopted daughter from Korea. She is now 24 and we adopted her in 1977. She was 7mo's old and lived in Soel. She was in a foster home until we got her. The name of our adoption agency was David Livingston Missionary foundation out of Tulsa Oklahoma. Just curious--other than that --no other reason.

I pulled your message up a while back. I'm just getting the chance to respond. I found your message to be one that was very interesting and may even be a link but I'm not sure. Anyway, I'm a twenty-two year old female residing in SC. I was born in Boston, Mass. Let me get to the point, my father is a chinese jamican. Do you know the name of your father? His father was a full blooded chinese and from what I do know his mother was a west indian or from west india. I'm not sure. I met my grandfather once before he passed. I was told that he had cancer. They buried him over in Jamica. I not sure of his name. I never did met my grandmother. If I can get the names of my grandparents, I'm sure that would help the both of us. But until then I hope you find the answers to your questions.

I have some more info about my grandmother's family Chung. She had 3 sisters Ruby, Lucy, and Mesbit. Ruby had 3 children Tommy, Ruby, and Nelson. Her brother (name not known) had 2 sons Harry and James. James had a son named Benson whose mother was a Woo (Evelyn Woo's aunt). Harry came and lived in Augusta with his Aunt Bessie for some time and attended grammer school and some highscool (Richmond Academy) before returning to San Francisco where he died in 1994. There is a son Kenny (married Jackie ??in Florida), an older boy, a daughter Karen in Savanah, GA, another son, and Robert Chung that apparently lives in SC and graduated from the Naval Academy.

Does any of this seem connected our familiar to anyone? How can I research this some more? This is all I have right now...

I have an uncle that married a Jamaican woman
and migrated to the US. I have not been able
to find out which state he went to. His brother,
my father, passed on in March 1984.
(that's when I knew he was in the Us) If you could
find out the names of anyone it would be a great
help. as you are a great-grand child that is far
away from the ones I knew by name. are there any more
siblings?(sisters or brothers in your family)
He was the only one (of my fathers brothers) that
married an African-Jamaican.

Very few of my relatives resembles someone of Chinese
descent. I would like to know how my name
managed to be. My mother told me that my
Chinese great-grandfather married an Jamaican
