Hi Wendy, it sounds likely that your father is my first cousin. He was quite a bit older then me, so I don't have a lot of memories to share. My cousin has siblings with the same names you mentioned, plus one other brother and sister. Have you ever been in touch with him or his siblings?
Later . . .
I looked further back and see that my cousin steve made contact with you years ago, so my info is not new. I am glad I stumbled on this site and discovered I have another relative out there!

I would like to talk with you! I'm researching a Theophile Girard (1829-1911), a Civil War vet from Co D, 11 Mich. Inf. and lived in the Detroit/Springwells area.

His children were: Mrs AT Labadie, Mrs Columbus Roulo, Mrs JF Doyle, Mrs J Quinn, Edmund Girard, and Miss Gertrude Girard. Are these people in your tree?

I need photos/portraits of them for a publication (Images of America).

Thanks, Elaine

Interesting. My mom always said the family had some Native American lineage. Do you know if Jean B Cicot/Cicotte could have been John Baptiste son of Mary Angelica Godfrey de Mauboef? Mary's parents are James Godfrey de Mauboef and Mary Chene. I had heard Chene was a common Native American designation.

Looking for anyone with information about Joseph Cicotte who worked as ticket taker/manager with an acting troupe/ theater. Looks like he married an actress named Alice who was from England. Alice had a son Edward Gray. I think he might be a relative who deserted his family in Detroit to travel with the troupe, but ended back up in Detroit in the 1920 time frame.

Hi Ron; I tried to get to your knew web site, but it didn't work. What do i do to get to it? I've cooresponded with you before about Ira Ambrose Cicotte. I'm the greatgrandniece of Laura Wagenknecht Cicotte. She was Ira's first wife. She left him soon after their daughter Irene Rose was born. From what I can tell ,she never remarried and ended up living with Irene. Irene married Fredrick William Tucker, and had,Virginia,Loretta,Mary EllenFredrick,And Robert. Irene divorced Fredrick and married Karl Fend, who apparently fathered a child by Loretta. The family acknowledges what happened, but are reluctant to talk about it. Loretta and her son still live in Detroit. Have you any thing new since I last heard from you in 1998. Geri Leech in Florida. P.S. I too have a new e-mail address. It's jogalch@earthlink.net. I also have a picture of your famous baseball player ancestor.

I think Gertrude's parents were named Felix (possibly his middle name) and Julia. Theophile Girard was b. abt 1874 in Trenton Wayne co. area and Gertrude was b. abt 1880 unknown where.
Theophile and Gertude had children named Arvella, Orval and Nelson Girard. I know they lived in the Detroit area possibly River Rouge or Allen Park. Theophile Girard was my great grandfather's youngest brother. Theophile died when he was abt 55 Y.O. What became of his family? Any descendants?

Cicotte? Wayne Co, Michigan

I am searching for the parents of my 2nd Great Grandmother Martha Cicott (Cicotte) b: 15 Dec 1831 in either Michigan or New York who married first Abner Orcutt and second Franklin Hamilton in Wayne Co., Michigan. Census records list both birth places Michigan and New York.

Her Obit reads as follows:
Maumee Pioneer Dead
Mrs. Frank Hamilton Yeilds to Infirmities of Age
Mrs. Frank Hamilton, a resident of Maumee for more than 70 years, died yesterday at her late home. Her death was due largely to the infirmities of old age. She was born December 15, 1831, in New York state and came to Maumee with her parents when a child of three years. She was married at the age of 16 to Abner Orcutt who died in 1851, leaving two children a son Curtis Orcutt and a daughter, now Mrs. Lottie Lloyd.
In 1856 she was married to Frank Hamilton, who with a son, Frank Hamilton Jr., of Union Oregon, survives her. Four sisters are also living, Mrs. Laura De La Telle of Los Angeles; Mrs. Julia Romaine of San Bernardine; Mrs. C. Bartley of Arbor Spring, Mich.; and Mrs. Mary Howe of Carleton, Mich.
The funeral will be held Wednessday afternoon from the M. E. Church in Maumee, the Rev. Eli Molter to officiate. The Relief Corps will also take part in the services. Interment will be in Riverside.

In a letter left by my great grandfather Franklin Lincoln Hamilton son of Martha Cicott (Cicotte), he wrote:
My Mother married a Welch man, a carpenter, and from that union there was two children, James Curtis, and Lottie Orcutt. Mr Orcutt, died in 1855 and Mother lived single till 1857 when she met my Father, they were married and I am the only child from that union. I was born October 1, 1860 at Maumee, Ohio.
It also states that Martha was the third child of two boys and twelve girls born to her parents near Trenton, Michigan, and that Martha's parents both died in 1845 during a disease outbreak.

Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Sherrie,

The web site at http://summerstreet.net/cicotte/ is the latest version though I have recently acquired much more information that is not yet posted. I used the internal IP address you tried to access for a while but the address is changed from time to time by my ISP and I have no control over it. I am now using the summerstreet address exclusively for posting the genealogy info so that I don't have to keep changing the address on users like yourself. You will find everything that I have posted so far there.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I enjoy doing it but it is very good to know that others appreciate the effort.

Tom,
I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner but for some reason I never received notification of your post. I only happened upon it today while doing some research.

You don't say which Joseph Cicotte. I have several in my family tree but the most likely candidate would be Joseph Cicotte III b. 18 Mar 1853. He was married first to Virginia Beaubien with whom he had 5 children and later to Josephine Bouchard and had 3 children with her.

I wish I could help you. I would love to have a copy of the photo for my web site. Unfortunately I know nothing about the people you mention in your post. I will try to find out more about Evelyn Honour Owen. If she is a registered genealogist I should be able to locate her. Otherwise it will be quite difficult. Could you scan the clipping and send me a copy?

Please keep in touch and let me know if you have any success.

Ron

Re: Edward V. Cicotte, d. 1902, age 50

The Death Certificate for Edward also shows that he was buried 3 years before he died. Not a pretty thought. When I got the birth certificate for my grandfather Ira Ambrose Cicotte it had him listed as female named Ida A. I know that he had a sister named Ida who was about 8 years older. I know that I had the correct birth date for him because I had information from the cemetary where he was buried and it showed his age at death very precisely (years, months, days) and I know his sister was born earlier because she is listed in the 1870 census data. The birth certificate was in error.

I believe the burial date of 1899 is probably correct because the age at death is listed as 50 and he was born in March, 1850. That is confirmed by census data. Still a discrepancy but much smaller. I believe Sephora to be the Bridget Sepharad Cicotte listed in my family tree. The birth and death dates match and she is married to Frank M. Smith with a death listed as before 1908 in Chicago. Thank you for this information. It is a great improvement on what I had.

Her brother Edward V. probably came to chicago much earlier and it means that he died while living with them but actually about 2 weeks earlier than her husband Frank. If you look at the dates the only one that is way out of line is the 1902.

Unfortunately this process is full of opportunities for error and we all have to do a little guesswork. For now I will stick with my assessment and keep Edwards death listed as 1899.

Thanks again for your efforts.

Ron

Natalie, Please get your facts straight. 1.First of all Eddie V. Cicotte Sr. is Dannys great great grandfather. My father, Ed Srs son, Eddie Jr, was Dannys GreatGrandfather & I am Danny's Grandmother.( Kimberlys Mother )
2.You had best do more research before stating any more lies on here. Eddie was NEVER convited of throwing the game nor did he ever admitt to it. In the many happy years I spent with my grandfather he always insisted he was innocent 3. Kimberly & Danny had thier names changed to "Cicotte" from Eddy. So your title of " little boy cicotte" is also incorrect .
It is the" Uninformed " or shall we say "Glory Seekers " that destroy the reputations of great men. It is a pity that some seek fame through the God given talent & hard work of others.

Hi Ron,

One of the contacts I made at Ancestry.com was a fellow who sent me a clipping of Evelyn Honour Owen who did some work on the Riopelle and Cicotte family. She is pictured with a very nice photo of Joseph Cicotte. The article lists her brother Ben Southerland of Allen Park, a son named Stephen Stoltes of Grosse Ile, whose wife is Martha and sons are Stephen and Phillip and a sister who lives in Arizona by the name of Dolores Cornea. I have tried without any luck to locate these indivuduals so that I might get a digital image of Joseph Cicotte and a copy of the genealogy she completed. Any ideas.

Cynthia,

In your message you says Edward V. died in 1902 at age 50 but your subject says 1905. I have an entry in my files for an Edward Vincent Cicotte born 9 Mar 1850, Detroit, MI ( see my website at http://summerstreet.com/cicotte ). It shows him as having married Sarah H. Andrews b. 1851 with two children Paul Roland and Blanche Mary. His father's name was also Edward V. and his sister Bridget Sepharad Cicotte married a Frank Smith who died sometime before 1908 in Chicago. It's been awhile since I did this so I would have to look up the reference.

Please feel free to use my website for your research and let me know if it helps.

In researching the family of James A. Smith of Chicago I have come across the Cicotte surname a couple of times. Sophora Cicotte, d. 17 Sep 1908, age 65, buried at Rosehill, married James' son Frank (or Francis) M., in September of 1863. An Edward V. Cicotte, d. 2 October 1902, age 50 is also buried in the Smith family burial plot at Rosehill Cemetery. Anyone have information about this Edward and know why he might be buried with the Smiths? Was Sophora his daughter or sister? Thanks for the help.

Jeff,

I think I found the connection to your family and Shawn's if my hunch is right. I got some info last year from Lucille Cicotte Paas whose father was Arthur Cicotte. Arthur had two brothers (Howard and Warren) so they are Lucille's Uncles. If these are the same Howard and Warren who are your grandparents then the link has been found because their father was Alva Thomas Cicotte who was one of my Grandfathers brothers. There were 6 boys in my grandfathers family:
Ira Ambrose (my grandfather) b. 11 Apr 1878, Ecorse, MI
------------------------------------------
Edward (Eddie "Knuckles" Cicotte the baseball player); b. 19 Jun 1884
------------------------------------------
Alva Thomas (Your great grandfather if I am correct); b. 1880
------------------------------------------
James W. b. 1876;
------------------------------------------
George Edward, b. 1867
------------------------------------------
Charles M., b. 1873
------------------------------------------

Howard Cicotte was born in 1905 and Warren in 1913. If this fits please let me know and I would appreciate any family information you could pass on. I would be glad to add it to my web site. I think that Warren was a judge or sherrif in Melvindal.

Please let me know if this is correct.

Thanks,

-ron

Your grandfather's lineage is posted on my website at http://summerstreet.com/cicotte.
Mark,

What is it about Frederick Joseph that makes you think this is your ancestor? If we know that perhaps we can help.

You can check out my website at http://summerstreet.com/cicotte and see if there is anything there that will help.

Regards,

-ron cicotte

Thank you for your kind words. It was very exciting to talk with a relative on my fathers' side. Unfortunately, it abruptly stopped when I asked if my father or his other siblings would consider talking to me.....but, it's nice to know that there are some nice people out there. Thanks Again!
Dear Windy,

In 1958 my father moved from River Rouge Michigan and landed in Glendale California, where he had a baby with a girlfriend. About 15 years ago she was able to contact me and we have since visited on the phone and once in person.
It is gratifying to meet a flesh and blood relative after a long separation through whatever the circumstances. I'm happy for you.

Tom Jordan
Santa Barbara, CA

Dear Linda,

Please include me on your website for the Cicotte family. I have some photos and newspaper clippings that I would like to add and would like to find some photos of the Joseph Cicotte sr and jr family.

Best Regards,

Tom Jordan
