I went through my books and can't find anything directly related to the post I orginally made. However, I need more information from you that may solve a mystery in the Ciha line for both of us. My Joseph(Sr) "Chiha" born about 1830 in Praha, Bohemia. (that was the orignial spelling prior to the early 1900's.) If you are not from Illinois then you may not be aware that the October 1871 Great Chicago File distroyed all of it's public records to that point. I have a Joseph Ciha who had a son Joseph (Jr) and Albert, who had a son Albert, etc. My Ciha's are from the Joseph (Jr) line. I beleive that somehow through the Joseph Sr. our families are related.

If you are comfortable with emailing me it is:
WLLLWIT@aol.com.

What I need to know is the name of Jacks (now James) Father. I am unclear if Jacks is Albert's son or grandson.

Your post is quite interesting. My missing Chiha would have been born between 1872-1880 so the age fits. The time of emigration would have been about the same time. Interesting enough the name "Bessie,Bessa and "Lizbeth" were sisters to my line. Edward said they came from Praha, Bohemia. However family lore (what little there is)was said by Edward wife to have been from the "Hungry-Czechoslovakia area". I don't due genealogy during the "tax season" but wanted to respond to your post. I put it in my active file and will follow up with you when I take my note out of storage. I have tried to see if there is any connection between my Chicago Chiha/Ciha line and those in Wisconsin but so far no luck. The post about the North Dakota family history with Edward and "Louie" were brothers by RGLeonard@aol.com makes me think we will make a break through soon is identifying all the family members that emigrated and the family connections.

Thank you for sharing the information. Let's keep in touch. You can email me directly. Linda

Hi, my great-grandmother, Agnes Vojacsek (aka Vojacek, Voyachek), may be the Chiha (Ciha) sister that you mention, the one that married a Voyachek. In an obituary of her youngest daughter, Agnes' maiden name is listed as Chabika. I have also seen her maiden name spelled Chobia, Chabika, and Chiba. Agnes was born about 1878, in Hungary/Czechoslovakia, according to info that she supplied to Census records. She emigrated to the USA in 1903 by herself with her only daughter (Erzabet aka "Beta", "Lizie"). She was already married to Martin Vojacsek, and he was already here in the USA waiting for them. They settled in Mt. Pleasant, Fayette County, PA. I know nothing else about Martin's or Agnes' families, such as their home village, where they were married in Hungary, parents' names, etc. Still working on this. Would like to correspond with you or anyone who may have further info concerning my family. Thanks! Kelly

Yes, we can work together on compiling genealogy on the Ciha family. This is actually the family of my wife Ann, but I'm the genealogist in the family. I've not worked a lot on her lines of late, but we had done a fair amount of research about 20 years ago. We spent a lot of time with her grandfather Aloisius "Louie" Joseph Ciha and video taped a number of the discussions of family history with him. Edward and "Louie" were brothers. Contact me directly at RGLeonard@aol.com

I was reading your post about "Edward Ciha relatives." My grandfather's name was Edward Ciha. He was born in Tisch Mills in 1903 and later moved to Two Rivers, where he married my grandmother Julia Mezera. They had two children, Marilyn Alice and Mark Edward (my father).

I think my sister Patricia (Ciha) Sigmund is trying to compile a geneology chart for our family. Please let me know if we can work together to complete something.

Hi all, I've just begun researching our family tree and in response to your question, I have a letter written to a family member from a relative in Czecho. and within it the last name Ciha is spelled Cihova. My family line is from Czechoslovakia(Pacelice). Maybe we are related. I know we have/had family in WI, IA, ND, NB, CA, OH(where I'm from) and a few other places. Feel free to contact me if you think we may have some kind of connection. Thanks.

I have not come across the surname spelled Csida, but it's possible. I have always wondered about the spelling, feeling it may well have changed when they family imigrated to America. The family line is from Bohemia. What heritage is your line and what part of the US did your line settle in?

You will find cemetery records for several Csida family members on the Manitowoc County Genealogy Website. There are 2 cemeteries listing Csida family member burials, those being: (1) Isador and Anna Csida; St. Gregory Church Cemetery, St. Nazianz, Wisconsin, and (2) Jerome, Ruth & Jeffrey Csida; St. John - St. James Ev. Lutheran Church Cemetery, Reedseville, Wisconsin. There is no reference to the Illig surname on the Manitowoc County website. Perhaps it was the Immig surname that I was recalling.

I am looking for information on Mathilda (Ciha) Paape. She married John Paape and lived in the Algoma, Wisconsin (Kewaunee County) area--which is just north of Manitowoc. I believe she died in the early 1980's and is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery--Ahnapee township (Algoma). I am not sure if she is connected to the Ciha's in Manitowoc, as I have no information yet on the names of her parents. I would appreciate any help! Thanks.

The information in my original post is all that I have. I would not be surprised, however to find out that these are my Edward Chiha (Ciha) relatives. Most likely uncles or great uncles, at the very least cousins. I'll try to put some scenarios together and see if I can make anything work, but it will have to wait until after April 15. Thanks for the reply: it gives me a place to start. Linda Witowski

I am looking for any information on the Fink and Csida families that resided in Wallern, Neusiedl, Burgenland, Austria during the mid-19th century. There are several things that I do know about these families. Stefan Fink (c.1830-1907) was married to Elisabeth Csida. They had 5 children that I know of: Nikolas (b. 1850), Stefan (b. 1853), Frank (b. 1861), Rosa (b. 1864), and Conrad (b. 1857). Conrad immigrated to Minnesota around 1886. His wife's name was Ursala Denk. They had the following children: Mary (g.grandmother), John, Joseph, Rose, Conrad, Steven, Frank, Nicholas, Edward, Michael, and Elizabeth. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Randy, this could be a real connection, not wishful thinking. What happened was, my grandfather Steve Csida and grandmother Catherine Illig got divorced. Catherine did not want the children, and Steve tried to raise the three girls but could'nt handle it. There wer'e several adoptions, after relatives by the last name of Konz took care of these girls. Back then, families changed the spelling of there names because of disgrace. Is the Konz name firmilar? Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it
Ginny
