I'm not sure of the relationship to the other Cissnas. Joseph Cissna is related to me through my maternal grandfather. Joseph Cissna married Mary Ann Hamilton and had Josephus Cissna. Josephus married Lydia Phipps? (or Phillips) and had George Markland Cissna. George married Cora Freshley and had Josephus George Cissna (my grandfather), who married Ruth Greilich and had my mother. Hope this helps. If you have any further info. on Joseph or his ancestors, I would to love to have them. Let me know if you need any further information.

Seeking information - Charles Cissna family in Indiana, Ohio 1800s

Researching/looking for information on the family of Charles Cissna born May, 1860 in Indiana. 1870 census shows his family in Westchester, Porter county, Indiana: with Charles b. 1810 in Ohio, and presumed siblings Robert, John, Sarah, (Charles), Deborah, William, and Joseph all said to be born in Indiana ranging from 1852 (Robert) to 1867 (Joseph). In 1880 Charles Cissna was living in Michigan City, La Porte, Indiana with his brother John. Charles married his first wife Maud, surname unknown, there and son Ray was born there in 1882. They went to Dakota, where son John R. was born (also called Jack). Then to Washington State where they resided in what became Bellingham, Whatcom COunty, Washington. Charles remarried Sada (Watkins) Black after Maud died in 1903. They also had a son named Charles. Other members of this family also came to Washington. I'm looking for the family connections in Indiana and Ohio. I'd like to know who were Charles Cissna's parents?

Whoops.

I have to make a correction. According to an 1880 Census file, I have a Mary Clark being born about 1851 in Ohio, with HER parents listed as also being born in Ohio. E.P. Clark is listed as being born in Illinois, with both parents listed as being born in Indiana. Sorry about the confusion. :o)

Unfortunately I don't know don't have any immediate answers to your questions but here's what I do know:

A relative of mine found the microfilm copy of May Belle Clark's first marriage to Edward Terrah Jones in Malvern, Mills County, Iowa on the 25th of February 1896. May Belle was listed as being born the 16th of March 1875 in Macedonia, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Her parents were listed as Ellis P. Clark and Mary Ellen Cissna. According to multiple census records of May Belle, both of her parents were listed as being born in Ohio.

My relative also stated that she has a great deal of information about the Clark and Cissna lines on file, so I'm going to see if I can get a hold of her to find out more information. I have also been looking for the parents of Mary Ellen Cissna and only came into the information above just last week. I will post more if I find anything out.

In the meantime, I hope this helps you out a little bit!

ROBERT G CISSNE OR JOHN D CISSNE

I AM LOOKING FOR INFO OR PICTURES ON ROBERT OR JOHN CISSNE FROM ST JOE CO IN.
I AM IN THE PROSSES OF RENOVATING THE HOUSE THEY BUILT AT 721 COTTAGE GROVE SOUTH BEND IN AND WANT TO GET IT THE WAY IT WAS WHEN IT WAS BUILT IN 1900. ANY INFO WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE SO FAR.
Robert G. Cissne, a very old settler and prominent man, is a farmer on sec. 32; P.O., South Bend; is the son of John and Jane (Glass) Cissne, both of whom died in La Porte county; the former was a native of Pennsylvania, and the latter of New Jersey; he was born Oct. 23, 1811, and is of French descent on his father's side and Welsh-Irish on his mother's side. He came to this county with his parents in 1831, and located in this tp. Here they stopped two years and then moved to La Porte county, where the remained until 1839, when they returned to this tp. In 1836 Mr. C. was married to Anna Miller, a native of Ohio, born in 1817; they have had 11 children, of whom 8 are now living: Sarah J., Mary, Adelia, John, Joseph, Oliver, Orrilla and George. Mr. C. has held the office of Justice of the Peace, and Constable in this tp.; he is a Republican. He and his estimable wife are devoted members of the German Baptist Church. His educational advantages were somewhat inferior to those of to-day, being compelled to attend subscription schools in log houses with paper for windows. He owns 160 acres of land, which he values at $85 per acre. He is an industrious man, trying now to take life easy; and the greatest of all, he has enjoyed Nature's best blessing, good health, not having been sick over half a day at a time since he was 16 years old..
THANK YOU FOR YOU HELP

I am a native Texan, currently living in the Dallas area.
I have long wondered about my maternal grandmothers unusual maiden name, Comeans, thinking It might be French. She and my grandfather, Thomas Burke, moved from the Columbus area to Texas somewhere around 1925. My mother was Doris Clair Burke. I have always thought that I was English/Irish/Scotch, and have mercilessly teased my wife for years for being mostly French. Could it be that
I have some of the same blood, especially after seeing the Cissna connection? Woe is me!
Your comments please Gary

Hi Michelle, noticed your post about David Cissna. I am trying to locate David Cissna who lived in Spencer Co, Indiana for a time. He was sheriff there in 1833. His brother (?) Joseph is my gggrandfather. Just wondered if this David might be your David Cissna who married Rebecca Sifrit.
Thanks,
Donna

Stephen P CISSNA d Mar 16 1841-56y buried Rockport, IN

I am searching for any living desc of the above Stephen P Cissna d 1841 and is buried in the Ole Rockport Ind [Knobs] Cemetery. There are 25 folks buried there and only one marker standing [our Daniel Grass]. On the cem list at the bottom of it states "Kris Mosley said the old gravestones were thrown in the gully down the hill." I do not know when this was written on there by long hand, possibly around 1965 when the last listing was made [acc/to what the listing says].
I have been told the Middle School that was built there owns the property and the markers were gone when they built the school....?? I dont know....but us cuzzies of Grass/Smeathers are trying to band together to get whoever is responsible for descrating these grave markers to replace them, so we search for others that would join our project. I have a copy of the listing I can send. Please email me personally if you are desc of this Stephen P Cissna. Hes the only Cissna listed there. thank you.
