Origin of Susan Paulina Claflin m. Thomas A Bentley

She was born about 1820 in Vermont. She married about 1836 to Thomas A Bentley; he was born 26 Jan 1806, in Washington County, New York. I do not know where they were married. The first record I have is the 1850 US Census in Springdale, Dane, Wisconsin, USA; at that time they have 6 children aged 12-2 years. I would like to find her ancestors.

Lottie Margan was known to me as Lottie Claflin, an aunt who I'd only seen a few times in northern Minnesota. My grandfather on my mother's side was Clarence Leander Claflin from Menahga, MN, younger brother to George Claflin. I can see now that William (Lorenzo) Claflin was my great grandfather. It has been told to me by my Claflin relatives that I am related to Buck Claflin (of Victoria Claflin Woodhull fame). Can anyone tell me if this is true? If not, I can follow another route and put that idea to rest.

Transcribed from New York Times June 5, 1899
Calvin Claflin, sixty-five years old, died on Saturday of Bright's disease at St. Luke's Hospital. Mr. Claflin was born in Franklin Mass. He came to this city in 1852 and engaged in the sale of straw goods up to the time that his illness compelled him to go to the hospital. He married Miss Belle Adams of Franklin. A widow and one daughter survive him. The burial will be at Franklin.

I have no further information and am not related to this person.

Yes, that is the Silas I was trying to find a death place for. I was hoping that maybe his activity after 1900 would lead me to his cousin, Mattie/Mettie Miranda Claflin. However, I was able to find her anyway - right here in my hometown! I am still curious about where/when Silas died though just because I looked and didn't find him. I would expect that since his children were all in Ohio, he probably went back there.
Patti

CLAFLINs in Sardis, Burke County, Georgia

I am researching my wife’s family history and one of the links is her Great Grandfather, Caleb Murray, and his wife (her Great Grandmother) Mary Graham. Mary was the daughter of Lucy Claflin, a fifth generation descendent of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins. Do you have any idea where I can research more about Mary Graham and get more information about what brought some of the Claflin family from Massachusetts to Sardis, Georgia?

447. LUCY6 CLAFLIN (JOSHUA5, ABNER4, JOSHUA3, DANIEL2, ROBERT (MACKCLOTHAN)1) was born May 14, 1795 in STANDISFIELD, BERKSHIRE CO., MASSACHUSETTS, and died October 04, 1837 in SARDIS, BURKE CO., GEORGIA

Child of LUCY CLAFLIN and ANSON GRAHAM is:

1202.
Hi Folks,
I seem to have happened across an unmatched daughter of Halsey Claflin & Marion Kimball. She is living with her sister Mettie/Nettie in 1910 while Mettie is ill. She is listed as Emma, however, there isn't an Emma listed in that history done in the 1890's. Does anyone know which daughter went by "Emma"?

In 1910 she is married to Hiram Cone. They married in 1909 in Macomb Co., Michigan.

I will work on tracking her myself, but I thought I'd post in case anyone has an easy answer.

I see from the large number of posts this year (abt 10) that this isn't a very active list. Is there a more active list I should be posting on?

Thanks,
Patti

I don't remember the county, sorry. If I didn't include it in the posting its possible it wasn't written on the photo anywhere. Try the state historical society. I only did this for a short while, buying old identified photos off ebay and then posting them. I never charged anything, not even postage. It was rewarding enough in itself. Good luck. I hope you find it.

Penny

The name Claflin is a durative of the name from Robert Mackclothlan or MacLachlan, spelling is questionable. The name changed in the next generation from Robert, and as far as the Claflin Family Association knows there were never any one else with the Claflin name from Scotland other than Robert in about 1650. He was a prisoner of the British captured as far as we know at the Battle of Dunbar in Scotland, . He lived in Mass.

Hope this helps.
Betty-Jane

Silas Claflin b. 1835 NY, lived OH

Is anyone researching the Silas Claflin family. He was born in NY, Oct 1835, but resided in Ohio. I would like to know if anyone has a death date/place for him or has even found him anywhere after 1900.

I am also wondering who was living with his family in 1860. Her name is Meli*a Claflin, age 16. This appears to be the same girl who lives With Ebenezer and Lidia Smith in 1850, as Mali*a Claflin age 10. Although the name is was transcribed as Melissa, the "*" actually looks more like an "f" or "lg". Any ideas here?

Thanks,
Patti

I recently acquired some photos, many of them unknowns. I have had little luck getting ID‘s on them. I have posted a small group of unknowns on DeadFred.com (about 10). They can be found by using the keyword search on the home page instead of the name search. Sometimes they don’t all come up, so I would suggest doing the search twice, once with the keyword SCHULTZ, next with the keyword MUSKEGON. Only a few extras come up. I have listed Surnames from this household and where I have found these families.

Side 1 (nearly all immigrated 1880‘s): SCHULTZ (SHULTZ), MI then Iowa William, John, Herman, 4 Unknowns, Muskegon MI Only: Amelia, Emma, Fred, Frieda, Some ties to WI
BEGALSKE & GUDERJON: MI or IL, then Iowa
CARLSON - MI or Martin SCOTT in Oregon

Side2: CLAFLIN or McCLAFLIN & BEATTIE or BEATTY: NY>Ohio>Detroit, MI>Muskegon, MI
BEHM & KUNTZ: Detroit, MI
PETERSON, Gus & OLSON: MI, with maybe some ties to WI

Unknown connection: ENGELMAN: Louise & William with dau Jean abt 1920, Cedar Rapids, IA (2 pics)

Thanks, Patti
