Surnames: Clair, McCabe
My father was John Clair McCabe. He was born in 1910 in Redding in Scotland. His mother was Mary Clair, and we think her family came from around Lanark and were from Ireland. However we have been unable to track back on the name Clair. It is unusual. We thought it was a corruption of Sinclair, a common Scots name and not a name on its own--or is it part of the Sinclair clan heritage?
