Hi Again,
I went ahead and looked up some of your info from the Shuman book and found Sarah May married to John B. Gordon Bacon and there is a lot about his family, and their children. If you don't have access to a Carolyn Jarard Shuman genealogy called The Shuman Family Genealogy and Allied Families, email me at imiuru2@earthlink.net and I will help you with the Bacon family.
By the way, we are related through both the Bacon Family which goes back to a common George Henry Shuman relative and the Clanton family which goes back to Daniel Sydney Clanton.
Louanne

If you don't find anything contact me and I will see if I can find your Lanier and Clanton in the genealogy book Jarard published.
Louanne

I am trying to locate Jack Meador Clanton or his family. His WWII Navy Reserve Officer's dog tag was found during the building of a fitness center on a Naval base in Guam. He most likely joined the Navy in 1945, because he received his tetanus shot in November of 1945. I believe he was born in 1927. If anyone can help me find him so that the tag can be returned to him or his family, please call me at (707) 362-0138 or email me at france@wavecable.com Email or phone is the best way to contact me.
Don't know if you have the info you needed since your message was posted in 2001. I believe my mother is your Horace's first cousin. Effie Cassidy married John Lester Clanton. Effie was the daughter of Rebecca Polson and Richard Cassidy. My grandmother, Minnie Aline was Effie's Sister. Ellen Clanton who married John(2nd wife), John Lester's father, also was Effie Jean's sister. We have been unable to determine the date of Effie's death. John Lester is buried in the Bay Springs Church Cemetery in Chesterfield County. No head stone but the metal marker is there as well as the burial site for his father. Glenn Perdue has a Cassidy web site, easy to find, just search cassidy family tree. I have pictures from the cemetery if you are interested.

Sandra,

I have this Charles marrying a Hanna Christian Etheridge abt 1788, not sure where they were married though. This Charles I have was born, according to Martha Orr, Buddy Clanton, and I think Joan Viney (people I've corresponded with on my mother's Clanton line) was born 1767 in Brunswick County VA; died Abt.1812 in Bulloch County GA. Hannah Christian Etheridge was born Abt. 1774 in Currituck,NC; died Aft. 1820. They were my mother's 4x greatgrandparents through their son Daniel Sidney Clanton.

Buddy Clanton states that this Charles was named Charles William Clanton, son of Charles Clanton and Sarah ?.

Charles, husband of Sarah ?, was born, according to http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d..., abt 1723 in Virginia and died 1793 in Union, SC. This was the only place I've found so far that mentions your Charles Clanton marrying a Sarah.

I do have several Ephraim Clantons as descendants of Richard Clanton and Agness West, but none have a Charles Clanton as a son that I've seen so far.

I also have another Charles William Clanton who was born 27 April 1817, son of my mother's 3x greatgrandfather, Daniel Sidney. This Charles William Clanton married a Lavinia Geiger 12 Mar 1846 in Bulloch County, Ga. He was born In Bulloch County and died in Bryan County, Ga on 25 Mar 1895. THis Charles William, however is too young to be the Charles William of your inquiry.

Most of my research on the Clantons tends to come from surfing the net and email.

I'd be willing to share what I have of my line as I see it currently. Email me at either genealogy (at)kwasient (dot) com, eq1967 (at) gmail.com, or eq1967 at)aim (dot) com. I give those three because depending on your mail server, will determine which will not bounce my emails.

Claude P Perry II

Hi Sandi,

Old thread I know but you had stated that Charles Clanton who married Christian Etheridge was the brother of Newman H. Clanton. You further state that Charles had a son named Daniel Sidney Clanton who married a Caroline Dugger and that one of thier, Daniel's and Caroline's, daughters was your ancestress.

Daniel and Caroline are my mother's 3x great granparents through their oldest son John Daniel Clanton. I'd love to be able to share information with you about this line if you are willing. Also I'd like to know how you came about determining that Charles Clanton, Daniel Sidney's father, was the brother of Newman H. Present day Clanton, Alabama was originally called Goose Pond. In 1870, the town was established and named after Confederate Brig. General James Holt Clanton, who fought during the American Civil War.

I wanted to put a grave marker in my home town cemetery for an uncle by marriage who died in 1967, but didn't know exactly where on the lot he was buried. A city worker had what looked like a coat hanger bent in two. He walked over the entire lot and found where the uncle was buried.

Sandra

I am trying to find info on Samuel Clanton, born about 1824 in SC, married to Elizabeth, born abt 1827 in NC. Their children were Margaret F., b 1848, John J, b 1853, and Henry Gillam, b 1854. They were living in Tallapoosa County, AL in 1860.

Does anyone know who Samuel's and Elizabeth's parents were?
