He was from England, and went to Mangalore, India. He was sent as a missionary by the Basel Mission (HQ in Basel, Switzerland). He went to India sometime around the 1850's possibly. He died sometime in the early 1900's, and is buried in Basel, Switzerland. His wife's name is unknown. He had a son, David Claremont (married Susan Bangara).
