O my word Suzanne - I can't believe I have a new lead on this at last. This may be the Charles Clarke married to Eliza(beth) Reynolds who was registered on my uncle's birth cert in 1901.
While I search for the marriage I should be very grateful if you would ask around for further info (although there may be no knowledge in Ireland of whether they came to Leeds, Yorkshire, or wherever). Other ideas are that she was known as "Nurse Clarke", but whether that was in Ireland I don't know. We are also curious to know who Selina was - who told Violet that her mother lived at Rose Cottage. Do you know anyone called Selina?
I am really pleased to hear from you and hope we can get further on this for my mother's sake. My thanks for responding; I look forward to hearing from you again.
Sue
