      <description>Hi Louise,&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Robert Clasper b. 1785 married Jane Hawks in 1807 at St Mary's Whickham, they had 11 children. Jane died in 1832 and is buried at St Mary's, Robert then married Mary Elliot/Ellis in 1834 and had another 4 children before Robert died in 1841 and is also buried with his wife and two of his sons, Edward &amp;amp; John, who died in their twenties. Robert and Jane had a son Robert b. 1818 who married Mary Duff in 1838.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Robert b. 1803 is not part of this family and I have no idea whether he was married before his marrige to Mary Dewar in 1834.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Census 1841 Dunston:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Clasper Robert/55/Keelman/ in county&lt;br&gt;Clasper Mary/45//in&lt;br&gt;Clasper Richard/15/Waterman/in&lt;br&gt;Clasper John/13//in&lt;br&gt;Clasper Dorothy/10//in&lt;br&gt;Clasper Thomas/7//in&lt;br&gt;Clasper Mary Ann/4//in&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Census 1851 Dunston:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Clasper Mary/head/widow/57//Whickham&lt;br&gt;Clasper Thomas/son/unm/16/Waterman/Whickham&lt;br&gt;Clasper Mary/dau/unm/13//Whickham&lt;br&gt;Elliot Thomas/visitor/11//Whickham&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I hope this makes things a bit clearer for you.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Regards, Ian.</description>

      <description>I forgot to mention it in my last message, the marriage you are looking for in the IGI is under the name of Glasper not Clasper, this also is the case with the 1841 Census &amp;amp; some references in the free BMD database.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;1841 Census, Gateshead:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Glasper Robert/35/Labourer/ in county&lt;br&gt;Glasper Mary/35//out of county&lt;br&gt;Glasper Catharine/10/in&lt;br&gt;Glasper David/5/in&lt;br&gt;Glasper Eliz/3/in&lt;br&gt;Glasper Mary/2/in&lt;br&gt;Glasper Jane/6mo/in&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;1851 Census Gateshead:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Clasper Robert/head/mar/45/Cinder Burner/Whickham&lt;br&gt;Clasper Mary/wife/mar/46//Newcastle&lt;br&gt;Clasper David/son//14//Whickham&lt;br&gt;Clasper Elizabeth/dau//13//Birtley&lt;br&gt;Clasper Mary/dau//12//Gateshead&lt;br&gt;Clasper Jane/dau/11//Gateshead&lt;br&gt;Clasper Robert/son//7/Gateshead&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I am pretty sure that Robert age 7 in the 1851 Census is the one you are looking for, I had the same conundrum as you are having now when I tried to figure out which Robert married which Mary, in the end I ordered a birth certificate for Jane Clasper listed above,here's the readout from it:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;1840 in the sub district of Gateshead in the County of Durham&lt;br&gt;20th of November at Pipewellgate Shore, Jane,Girl,Father Robert Glasper, Mother Mary Glasper, formely Dewar, The mark "+" of Robert Glasper, father, Pipewellgate Shore.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The other two Robert Claspers you mention are father &amp;amp; son, Robert Clasper the elder married Mary Ellis/Elliot in 1834 second marriage) and his son married Mary Duff in 1838.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;hoping this helps, Ian.</description>

      <description>There are two Robert Claspers who married Mary's a few months apart both were from Whickham, both were Watermen and both married at St John's, Newcastle upon Tyne.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Robert #1 was born 1785 in Whickham and married Mary Elliot AKA Ellis, which was his second wife, 22 March 1834, this Robert had two surviving children from his marriage to Mary Elliot/Ellis, Thomas, b. 1836 &amp;amp; Mary Ann b. 1837. This Robert died in 1841 and is buried in Whickham Churchyard near his illustrious son Henry "Harry" Clasper's monument.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Robert #2 was born 1803 in Whickham and married Mary Dewar 20th July 1834, they had at least five children: David b. 1836, Whickham; Elizabeth, b. 1837, Birtley; Mary, b. 1838, Gateshead; Jane, b. 1840, Gateshead, &amp;amp; Robert, b. 1844, Gateshead.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;My connection to this is via Robert Clasper #1, whereas yours is via Robert Clasper #2. The two Roberts are distantly related I think, they appear to come together with John Clasper &amp;amp; Mary Charlton, m. 7 Jun 1720 in Ponteland, Northumberland.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Your line looks something like this (I think):&lt;br&gt;Robert b. 14 Sep 1803, bp. 20 Nov 1803, Whickham&lt;br&gt;Siblings: Isabella, bp 26 Feb 1797, WH; Jane, bp 5 Jan 1799, WH; James, bp. 6 Sep 1801, WH; &amp;amp; William, bp. 6 Feb 1806, WH.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Robert, bp. 21 May 1769, WH, m. Elizabeth Nicholson, 7 Sep 1795, WH.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Henry, bp 12 Aug 1735, Ponteland, m. Isabel Campbell, m. 6 Sep 1761, Newburn, Northumberland.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;John, m.       <description>hi all&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;i have a clasper in my family tree &lt;br&gt;thomas clasper born in 1876 he married a charlotte pearson born in 1875 they had 5 children all born in whickham from 1896 to 1908&lt;br&gt;thomas clasper's father was robert g clasper born in about 1843/4 in whickham/dunston he married a mary jane we think turner we have 4 children that we know of&lt;br&gt;robert g clasper was a rivet maker his father was robert clasper born in about 1804ish he married a mary ? he was a waterman from whickham/dunston &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;i can not get any further back but there are 4 other pepole&lt;br&gt;looking for clasper's on gene reunited&lt;br&gt;ella smith&lt;br&gt;david wardle&lt;br&gt;steven snowball&lt;br&gt;ian simpson &lt;br&gt;some of there info is the same as mine but they have difernt mothers </description>

      <description>Hi Rod,&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;So what you are saying in your last post is that the second Mary is Mary Elliot, married to Robert Clasper (b.1803) at St Johns Newcastle in 1834?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Is that a definite or a maybe?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I think that the Keelman/ Cinder Burner reference is the same family, they started out in Swalwell, Whickham, where they had three baptisms (ref: Whickham PR) then moved to Gateshead via Birtley (see 1851 Census Gateshead, HO 107/2402 f29 pg50 sch184 Redheugh)&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I count 7 baptisms for this family, 3 in Whickham, one in Birtley and three in Gateshead.</description>

      <description>Hi Rod,&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I just have Ellis, taken from daughter Mary Ann's birth Certificate of 1837, not found any reference to the Name Nicholson as yet, From what I can see from the Whickham PR Robert and Mary (Ellis) had three children, Thomas, b. 1834. Joseph,b. 1836,d. 1836. Mary Ann, b. 1837, there also may be John, b. 1840, d. 1841, but I am not sure about that one as yet.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Here's the two Robert &amp;amp; Mary families in the 1841 Census:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Whickham, Lowhouse, HO107/302/12 f13 pg10&lt;br&gt;Robert Clasper/55/Waterman/in&lt;br&gt;Mary Clasper/45//in&lt;br&gt;Richard/15/Waterman/in&lt;br&gt;John/13//in&lt;br&gt;Dorothy/15//in&lt;br&gt;Thomas/7//in&lt;br&gt;Mary/4//in&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I found this following entry yesterday on a Census CD, it doesn't appear to be in the online versions of the Census.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Gateshead, Stourbridge,HO107/296/9 f13 pg20&lt;br&gt;Robert Clasper/35/Labourer/in&lt;br&gt;Mary Clasper/35//out&lt;br&gt;Catharine Clasper/10//in&lt;br&gt;David Clasper/5//in&lt;br&gt;Elizth Clasper/3//in&lt;br&gt;Mary Clasper/2//in&lt;br&gt;Jane Clasper/6mo//in&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;So, could this second Mary be Elliot or not, somehow, looking at the age of Catharine I doubt it, but then she could be from a previous relationship.....The more I look at this the muddier the water gets!&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Regards, Ian.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>

      <description>Robert must have married his second wife Mary presumably sometime between the death of his first wife Jane (nee' Hawks) in 1832 and the birth of their first child Thomas in 1834.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Their third child, Mary Ann was born just after Civil Registration began in 1837 and her birth certificate gives her maiden name as Ellis. When I looked into Mary's family I found that she was the eldest of nine children born to John Ellis &amp;amp; Dorothy Smart, of the nine, six have the surname Ellis and three the surname Elliot.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;There is a marriage at St Johns, Newcastle 22 March 1834 between Robert Clasper &amp;amp; Mary Elliot, the problem is that this could be either Robert (1785) or Robert (1803) who also married a Mary whos surname I don't know, could be Elliot....So, I have two Roberts marrying Mary's but only one marriage. Does anyone know what Robert (b. 1803) wifes surname was?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Thanks, Ian.</description>
