Melchoir Classen of N.Y. in 1676

A New York soldier in 1676 was accused of pilfering. This was the sentence decreed to him:
"The Court Marshall doth adjudge that the said Melchoir Classen shall run the Gantlope once, the length of the fort: where according to the custom of that punishment, the souldiers shall have switches delivered to them, with which they shall strike him as he passes between them stript to the waist, and at the Fort-gate the Marshall is to receive him, and there to kick him out of the garrison as a cashiered person, when he is no more to returne, and if any pay is due him it is to be forfeited."

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information, which comes from a webpage called "WebRoots LIbrary U.S. Miscellaneous" The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://www.webroots.org/library/usamisc/cpobdae2.html
Searching for my mother's half brother. John was the son of MIchael Classen Magdalena Gores and was born in Oakdale/Lake Elmo/Washington Co., MN on April 14, 1894. He had sistgers Fron, Frances, Agnes, Magdalena, Susan and Clara. John ran away from home as a youth. He visited Freiermuth family (his sister) in Dakota County and his sister Frances reported seeing him at a doctors office once where he responded to the call of his name but then walked out. Apparently JOhn and his father didn't get along too well. The older generation is gone now and the younger generation would like to meet his family and to know what happened to him. It is the least we can do for his sisters. Classen family reunion coming up in August.

Classen family Ger>SC>IL

I have been searching for ANY information on my beloved father's family. I have sometimes seen the name spelled "Claassen", "Clausen", and even sometimes with a "K". Here is what I know:

My father was David Mills Classen, born in Chicago, Cook County, IL 15 April 1918. He died too soon 25 January 1989 in Huntington, Suffolk County, NY. His father was

Paul Roderick Classen, born 31 July 1887; died 17 September 1926 in Cincinnati, OH. He had married Pauline Atkinson Strider in March 1916, probably in Chicago, Cook County, IL. His father was

A. Peter Classen (Captain - of what, I have no idea!), born 27 March 1847, died 16 January 1890. He had married Mary Ann _____ sometime before 1875. At some point in time, A. Peter was in South Carolina, for I have a relatively poor copy of his father's citizenship papers. Either he or his father (same name) was a magistrate for Edisto Island in South Carolina. A. Peter and Mary Ann had seven children:
1). Lillian Amanda 20 February 1875 - 13 November 1928
2). Alfred Eugene 21 May 1876 - ?
3). Anita Clarissa 01 January 1878 - ?
4). Julian Simmons 14 February 1880 - 02 May 1880
5). Marie Estelle 20 April 1883 - 02 December 1883
6). Charles Taylor 22 August 1884 - 24 January 1927
7). Paul Roderick 31 July 1887 - 17 September 1926

And A. Peter's father was A. Peter Classen, dates unknown, apparently married Wilhemina _________. They had five known children:

1). A. Peter 27 March 1847 - 16 January 1890
2). Angela ? - 09 March 1917
3). Mathilda (Tillie) 1857 - 04 July 1920
4). Roderick W. 08 September 1857 - 08 November 1913
5). Wilhemina (Mamie) ? - ?

Does any of this sound remotely familiar to you? I would be so very grateful if anyone could shed some light on these ever so difficult to find family members! Thank you in advance!

Classen family...Illinois area

I am looking for information on my Grandfather's side of the family. His name is Earl Classen and he was born in Illinois in 1917. He is still alive, but his memory has faded. The only thing he can tell me is that his Father was Ernest Classen (and he died in prison) and Mamie was his Mother. I found that Ernest was born on May 3,1888 and died December of 1978. Mamie was born on February 12,1892 and died March of 1974. I do not know Mamie's maiden name. I do know that my Grandfather had several siblings, 2 of which I think are still alive in Illinois. I believe their names to be Nellie, Frances and James. I think there was one more brother, but I do not know his name. Grandpa also tells of a story regarding his Uncle on his Dad's side. I guess they did not get along and this Uncle left and moved to Oklahoma at a young age. No one ever heard from him again. If anyone has any information about these people I would really appreciate it. You can email me direct at backsthepack@cox.net
Thanks,
Jennifer
