Claus in the Blackforest, Germany

Hello everybody,

I am thrilled to see that there is such a lively discussion going on... I have just started to research my own Claus history, and it seems that most of my ancestors lived in Enzkloesterle, Liebenzell, Monakam in the Blackforest in South-West Germany. Does this ring a bell with anybody? Are there any connections to your families?

I would love to hear from you.

With best wishes,
Christina Behrendt
christina.behrendt@bigfoot.com

George Claus of Wisconsin, father of Del and (??)

hi!
I am the daughter of Del and Beverley Claus. I also had a brother and sister who died as babies...Gary Del and Sandy.
I am looking for my grandfather, George, I am sure they resided here in wisconsin maybe around elm grove...my last recollection of hinm was when i as a kid had a operation and George was the only one who cared enough to come and see me and even brought me flowers as young as i was ..13..I am now 54 and believe me this very nice gesture om his part has stayed with me all these years! Un fortunately I was not to be able to see him anymore as he never came to visit...
~~~~wake up call this AM from a search on his former wife...
Sigrid Kinnamon...i thought kinnamon was her maiden name..come to maybe realize it could have been a 2nd married name and now i feel she could have been a peterson!
ok...if any of this rings a bell with anyone...I would love to hear from you! I am still in wisconsin and the last of the breed here..so am hunting for any living unknown relatives . I know George had other sons...maybe daughers?
one time my dad said something that his name he decided to shorten to Del after being named from Delavan lake as i guess they used to come up here to vacation when he was growing up...it is also possible that Claus has been shortened...maybe by George or higher ups??
~~~~~I have been putting it off but after finding this out this morning I just may go ahead and try and get my Dad's info from his birth....
I may have pics of sigrid....and of course my parents...:)
thank you for any help you can give me here...
Jan
Mildred Claus and Richard Kliegl of Floral Park New York

Looking for cousins or descendants of Richard Kliegl (born May 13, 1919, New York - died March 17, 1991, Bellerose, New York) and his wife Mildred Claus (born August 26, 1919 - December 17, 2000, St. Francis Hospital, Flower Hill, New York).

Mildred Claus is the daughter of Fred Claus (born Feb. 28, 1895, Brooklyn, New York - died June 28, 1945) and Hazel Loretta Kennel (born June 6, 1895, New York City - died November 1984, Nassau Hosptial, Long Island, New York).

I believe I spotted the family of Richard Kliegl in the 1930 Queens County Census living at 212 Street in Queens Village.

1. Joseph Kliegl born about 1886 in Bavaria Germany and working as a Superintendent at an Electric Store. I am taking a guess here that this Electric Store is the former Kliegl Brothers.

2. Anna Kliegl, wife, born about 1887 in Bavaria Germany

3. Richard Kliegl, son, born about 1919 in New York

4. Anna Kliegl, daughter, born about 1921 in New York

5. Charles Kliegl, son, born about 1921 in New York

I believe Charles Kliegl (born Macrh 4, 1921 - died January 7, 2003 Ridge, New York) husband to Lorraine Kliegl (born November 17, 1923 - died April 30, 1985) is the brother of Richard Kliegl who in turn is husband of my distant cousin Mildred Claus who shares ancestry with me via the Kennel family.

If anyone sees any connections to the above Claus, Kennel and Kliegl family members, I look forward to hearing from you.
Hazel Claus 1895 - 1984 New York

I am looking for any potential relatives or descendants of a certain Hazel Claus, born June 6, 1895 and died November 1984. I believe her last residence was in Floral Park, New York.

I am curious to know if this Hazel Claus's maiden name is Kennel. If so her parents would be Peter Frank Kennel and Margaret Hoffman. I believe Hazel (Kennel) Claus had two sisters, a certain Mildred Kennel born about 1889 and Elizabeth Katharine Kennel born May 17, 1890.

Hazel Kennel married a certain Fred Claus (born about 1895 in New York) and I believe they had a daughter named Mildred Claus born about 1920. The Fred, Hazel and Mildred Claus family lived in Saint Albans, Queens County during 1930 and in 1920 were living on Madison Street in Ridgewood, Queens County, New York.

He had children in Germany, England, Canada, and St. Paul. There were 20 children by two wives. I have traced most of these children through census records from the Iron Range, but cannot account for all 20. Does anyone know this family. I am in no way related to this person, but thought I'd post it in case it is helpful to someone. The monument was a tall standing one with several names.

1850 Joseph A.
Frederick Claus, Baltimore, 1900 census

I found a Frederick Claus, born June? 1852, living in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1900 census. Parents both born in Germany. Frederick was a police officer. His wife's name was Josephine, and their children were Marie, Alma, Edward, Frances, Frank, and Mathilda. Alma was married to Henry Holzhue, who I believe was in my Holzschuh family line. Would appreciate any information about Henry and Alma and any children they may have had. The family lived at 2119 E. Preston Street in Baltimore, Ward 9, ED 120, SD 1 MD, 12th precinct, (page 13B in the census records).

Frederick CLAUS Civil War records

I have a Civil War pension file for a Frederick Claus, turns out he was not the one I was looking for. I will send it to a family member.
He was from Philadelphia, but served in the NY Cavalry. He died 1899 and his wife Sarah died 1886. They had a daughter Ida.
Now if anyone has any info on MY Frederick Claus...his line is a big gap in my file. He was born about 1826 in Hesse-Darmstadt, was a butcher in Pittsburgh, married Josephine Lauth(daughter of Bernard Lauth and Catherine Dauenhauer), moved to Reading for a few years around 1870, then back to Pittsburgh where Josephine died 1883, and had the following children:
Fred R., born 1851
Amelia, 1854
Augusta, 1859
William E., 1862
Albert J., 1863
Louella M., 1867
Otto T., 1869
No sign of them after 1880 census, and Josephine's death in 1883. I would like to trace their descendants.

Bernhard Claus of France/Ohio/Iowa

I'm beginning my research on Bernhard Claus, my great great grandfather. He was born in Alsace, France, in 1822 and died in Dubuque Co., Iowa, in 1906. He married his first wife, Affra Fisher, in Franklin Co., Ohio, in 1850. After Affra's death, he married Catharine Schleicher in 1856 in Dubuque Co., Iowa. Catharine was born abt 1831 in Baden, Prussia, and died July 7, 1950. One of Bernhard and Catharine's children was Caroline Claus, my great grandmother. Caroline was born about 1866, in Dubuque Co. Iowa, married Nicholas Stemper (b.1867 d.1955) in 1889. Nicholas and Caroline (Carrie) had 4 children: Philomena, Elmer, Joseph and Hilda. Philomena (Minnie) was my grandmother. Most of these people lived in the Dubuque Co., Iowa, area. When Philomena married, she moved to St. Paul, Minnesota.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
