here are more informations: try to contact "Kirchengemeinde Pellworm" email: kirchengemeinde-pellworm@t-online.de
they should know, whom you have to contact to get data out of the parish register 1857. checking the pellworm-census of 1835 i found only the name "claussen" (with 2 "s") ! as pellworm is a very small island it might be that this is a trace for you. please send me an e-mail to office-at-genero-dot-com, and i´ll send you the claussen name-list back.
for sure pellworm belonged most of the time to germany, and not to denmark.

to the name "Preuben": here it is ment "prussia". what you read as an "b", and what looks like an "b", is in real a special letter for "s" + "z", a very sharp spoken "s" ( as you speak it e.g. in the word "hazard") / peter

My great grandfather was Heinrich Reinhold Clausen, born October 7, 1857 in Pellworm, Holstein (Schleswig-Holstein) Preuben, Germany. He was married in 1887 in Germany and immigrated to the USA in the same year. It looks like he lived to 1916 and was buried in Montana.

Do you have anyone in your family tree which matches these findings?

They lived around Edmonton and Stony Plain. He had siblings but they remained in the US.

Not really, all Census list Germany as country of origin but family members have said Denmark.

His son's name was Jens Julius John and I know his name was Henry. Sorry about being so vague. I haven't come upon any concrete to steer me one way or another.

Are you looking for the clausen family that moved to Eckville, alberta?? If so, look at my tree..you might find who your looking for. My great great grandfather was jacob clausen, who had brothers Peter, Charles, Daniel..not about sisters yet.

They lived in Clinton Iowa prior to moving to Edmonton. From what I can tell they were married in Germany or Denmark prior to immigrating to US.

Henry Clausen was born in Denmark as was his wife, Anna. They married and moved to the USA in 1887 and settled in Iowa. They had a large family including Carl, Paul, Julius, George, Charles, Jerry and Alma. By 1906 they had settled outside of Edmonton, Alberta and 1911 they lived in Edmonton.

Any info you can give me would be a great help. I have no information from the family in Denmark.

Do you know who John Claassen was??? He was born about 1882 in Iowa, and lived with Henry and Reenstine Claassen Krull in 1900 in Clark County, South Dakota and moved to Hughes County and was living near them there. I asked Aunt Dena and she said he was a cousin of Grandma Krull's, but she didn't know which Uncle he belonged to.
In the 1900 Census for Clark County, South Dakota, my grandparents were living in Haque Township and there was a John Claassen living with them who was born about 1882 in Iowa.

Then in 1920 Census for Pleasant Valley Township, Hughes County, South Dakota,
John L. Claassen age 38 (1882) born in Iowa and is a farmer
Lena Claassen age 31 (1889) born in Iowa
Laverne (or Lawrence) J. Claassen age 1 1/12 (1919) Iowa

Your mother married Don Primrose and they had twins, born in different years. One in December and the other in January. Made headlines.

Preceded in death by parents, Earl and Thelma Clausen; and daughter, Carol Anna Clausen (Thomas).
Survived by wife of 47 years, the Rev'd Kathryn Clausen of Millersport; and son and daughter-in-law, David and Diana Clausen of New York City.

Bill was a 1960 graduate of Lehigh University, BE in engineering mechanics. Received his PhD in mechanics from Ohio State in 1965.
He spent 30 years as a faculty member at Ohio State in the department of Engineering Mechanics, then Mechanical Engineering. His specialty was structural dynamics and vibration measurements. Co-Author of the last three editions of Beer and Johnston's classic textbook of "Vector Mechanics for Engineers-Dynamics".

His passion in life was music. He was an accomplished organist and pianist and was organist-choirmaster at St. John Episcopal Church in Lancaster, Ohio for 25 years.

He studied in 1981 at the Royal School of Church Music in England.
He was an active member of the Columbus Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Bill was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa honorary, Columbus Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, St. John Episcopal Church in Lancaster, Ohio, American Radio Relay League (call sign W8IMI), and supporter of the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 76 E. Main St., Newark, Ohio at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2011 , the Rev'd G. William Pursley, celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to St. John Episcopal Church, Lancaster, Ohio, the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

I have been doing research on my family tree. I do know that we had a relative who was a u-boat commander in the war.(I have seen the photos myself) He would have been the brother, or cousin of my great grandfather Ernest Klasen. I have been told they changed the spelling of their names when immigrating to the US in secret in 1927. A shot in the dark, but worth looking into.

I am researching my paternal grandfather Andrew Peter Clausen born 23 Jun 1904 in Richmond Hill, New York, USA. He died in July 1966 in either NY or New Jersey (SS has his last address as NJ). His first wife (my grandmother) was Margaret Anna Zwart (abt1905 – 1951) and they married about 1927 in NY. His second wife's first name was Leonora (usually called Lee) and she lived from 1916 - 1973 and they married about 1946, possibly in NY. I'd really love to know Lee's surname and where her family came from. My father was very young when he met her and he can't remember those details. Thank you!

Michel Clausen was a corporal in the Danish army in 1850s approx. He was a Dannebsmand ( think spelling correct). I am searching for details of this medal, what was it for, did it give an entitlment to a pension. Any details specifi to Michel would be appreciated

I am doing research for a DAR application and came across you post about the Bonney's from 2004. If you still need answers, Hartley and Roy were uncles of my dads. I can call and ask him what he remembers about his cousins. His mother was Ethel Bonney she was the youngest sister in this family born in 1894. If we can help answer questions please contact me. I am trying to develop details regarding the captioned. He was born in Germany and married Caroline Jordan(also born in Germany). They had five children one of whom was Julius Augustus Clausen and was born in the states. Julius is my Grandfather.

Hi Eric,
Christian A Clausen was the brother of my grandfather, so I think you may have the wrong person if you think you are related to the Christian in my tree. Christian's father was Peter Clausen, from Denmark. I do see other Clausen families in Bemidji in 1920 and 1930 so if you're sure they lived there, keep searching those families. Are you sure about all the names? I looked and couldn't find the various combinations you wrote down. Keep hunting!

I have a uncle who is Louis Clausen I don't know who he was married to but he was the son of john henry and Anna they originated from germany, they had several boys William , George, Edward, Louis, Jesse, Henry, who was my Dad, A lbert , Harvey. I have a brother who was named after Louis I never met very many of my Dad,s family so I don't know where they lived, we lived in Nebr and so did Harvey and his family

Puzzle solved. My gr. grandmother was born near Tellingstedt, Schleswig Holstein in 1862. Pretty good for my father to remember Tellings as the name as she died when he was only 4 years old. She was Anna Claussen and was orphaned at a young age. I'm still not sure when she immigrated but she married John G. Miller in Will Cty, Illinois in 1885. Hope this clarifies things for those who tried to help.
