Re: book

To which book are you refferring? I know of several books dealing with "Claibornes" and "Clayborns" and Im sure there are even more as there are several different and distinct families. The following books may be of use to you:

"Col. William Claiborne: The First 8 Generations"
By John Freferick Doorman & Claiborne Smith
This one deals with the family of Col. William Claiborne, the first Sec. of State (for the British Crown) of the Colony of Virginia.

Also "Claiborne-Cliborn" Records"
By Lolita Bissell.
This one deals with (mostly) the family of "John of Old Henrico". It has a number of errors in it, but it is still a worthy investment.

There is at least one other book that I know of, but the name escapes me at the moment.

And there are at least two more books by Clayborn researchers coming out in the next year or so.

Hope this helps.

Looking for my family

Hello, My name is Dan Clayborn and I am currently doing some light research on my family tree. I have not been too successful but my fathers' name was Tom Clayborn, born 4/1/1910 in Natchez Mississippi. He had two sisters, Hazel and Maggie. They all left Natchez and move to St. Louis Mo until their deaths (all were in their 70's). I later found out that he had a half brother by the name of James Clayborn, he may have passed also.

If you can help, I really would appreciate it.
At this point I am trying to fill in any
blanks that my brother was unable to find.
My brother Roy passed away last year,
he was doing all of this, but I would really
like to finish it. If you are Leonard's
granddaughter, we could be around the same age, since Dad was almost 50 when I was born. I don't know many of my uncles
since I haven't seen any that don't live in
Indiana since I was a kid. Let me gather up what Roy (we called him Danny) collected,
and see what I am missing. I also corrected
a few people on my Dad's middle name, because
everywhere I looked, people had it wrong.
Right now, Uncle Roy, Uncle UR (Uriah) and my dad all live here in Marion, IN. Danny was in the process of collecting other family history, like stories and such. He had dad record some stories from the war,
and some childhood memories, I think.

John Aulton Clayborn is my grandfather's (James Leonard Clayborn) brother. My mom remembers him and you, too. What all did you need to know??
Their father was William Riley Clayborn, known as Billy Clayborn. William Riley's father was John W. Clayborn who fought in the Civil War. His father was George Clayborn from South Carolina. There are a ton of inaccurate "Clayborn" genealogies out there - I have gotten several from other Clayborn kin, and they are full of errors (all done on the internet, I suppose).

Dad's name is John Aulton Clayborn. He was
one of many children, and was born in 1922.
They left Arkansas when he was young and
moved to Oklahoma, although I am not sure of the dates at the moment. I have many cousins
still in AK and in OK.

You didn't say where you found these people or a time period. I have over 6000 Claibornes, of the various spellings, in my data base. I might be able to help if I knew where you are looking. There were some Clyburns who left the mountains of Va. in late 1700's and settle in what is now Chicago. I feel this is probably your line. Their children went on to Indiana and lived there. I have a list of their children. Can I help?
Documentary Involving Clayborns Being Filmed in Tennessee

Dear Clayborn's:

I am a freelance documentary filmmaker, & I'll be in Tipton County & Fayette County, Tennessee from Saturday, June 29th through Thursday, July 4th shooting footage for my first documentary based on the history of the area, incorporating interviews, archival photographs, and genealogy research I’ve done on my own family (this includes Clayborn, Claybon, Claiborne, & Baskerville/Baskervill among other surnames).

If any of you happen to be available during that time, it would be great to speak with you. I am mainly looking for people whose ancestors are Clayborn's, Claiborne's, or Claybons from Tennessee; however, I'll consider anyone w/ Clayborn/Claiborne/Claybon ancestry who's willing to share some of their research, ancestry, and/or photos on camera or via audio tape for credit and experience.

This project is obviously low budget but it should be a lot of fun, too. If you are interested, or know someone who might be interested, please e-mail me at slimrachie@hotmail.com.

I appreciate your time and would like to thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Happy Hunting to us all!

Sincerely,
Rachel Hurt
slimrachie@hotmail.com
