My father, Clarence August Chuesberg (d: 1973), was Malva Beatrice Chuesberg's brother. My half-brother, Leon Chuesberg (lives in Panhandle of Oklahoma) might be able to help with the Claybrook side or my cousin, Dolores Bartel, since Malva (known as Beatrice/Trissy) was her mother. There is also a Clarence Otto Claybrook (I think that is his last name and I think he lives in Texas) that could possibly help with information.

Thanks for the information, I have been on a Family History hiatus for a few years while completing my Master's degree. I am very interested in this line due to the complexity of the situtaion and the mystery surrounding the relationships. I will plan a future trip back to Missouri and hopefully have time to do some digging. At least this gives me some direction to seek.

Hi, I am the GGranddaughter of Burrell Claybrook brother of Joseph Claybrook, my grandfather was Herman Claybrook, an A.M.E. minister. The Claybrook's we hail from are from Halls, TN and the surrounding area. Note - the siblings we descend from were a family of 13 children. Several of the Claybrook brothers married Thompson sisters (your Sylvia, the Thompsons were from Florence, AL. Many of the family members moved to Southern IL in the late 1890's settling in and around Elkville. If you have received any updates from family members my siblings would like to know.
Married 9 September 1906. In the 1910 Census it says they have been married for two years. Nancy died January 2, 1931, and she was 83 years, 7 months old. Her daughter, Mamie (Stone, my comment) Mitchell was the informant on the death certificate issued by the Texas State Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistiics, Predisio County, Marfa Texas.

Don't know if this is the correct family or not,but there was a marriage listed in Adair Co.,Mo for one Elvan Allen to Elizabeth Adkins on 1 Sep.,1867.I have info that was passed on to me by another researcher that indicates this may be a second marriage for Elvan Allen.
Can't say why your grt-grandmother's death certificate lists her mother's name as Elizabeth Claybrook unless Elizabeth re-married after Elvan died in 1881.I have seen info posted on the LDS website that indicates that Elizabeth was md.1st to the Senior Elvan Allen before she married Elvan's son Elvan Allen,Jr.Highly unlikely due to the marriage listed above as well as the marriage of Elvan Allen,Jr. to Mary Elizabeth ??? on 18 October,1857.That and the 1870 Morrow twp.census is what I am basing my info on.I have not personally checked the marriage records to see if I can decipher why Mary's surname is not listed in online marriage records.
Elvan Jr,his wife Mary and children Emily F.and John H. are listed in HH96 whereas Elvan,Elizabeth and 2 yr old son Charles B. Allen are listed in HH99.In 1860 Elvan Allen,Sr.
and his son Charles H.from his first marriage are listed in Morrow twp.,Dwelling 590 Family #487.

Hi Terri,

I have searched and can not come up with any definate connection with Elizabeth based on the information you provide. Perhaps you have a parent or sibling name. The 1700's are a very difficult time where it seems parents named all their children the same. The Tennessee location is proving the most difficult as Virginia and North Carolina seem the most promising.

Jim Johnson

I have info showing John Claybrook was born to William Claybrook and Sarah Crosby. John married Sarah Overton and are the parents of James Claybrook b. about 1783 in KY. James married Lydia Hensley and are the parents of George Washington Claybrook b. about 1812 in Mason, KY - this is my husbands ggg-grandfather. I have not researched them much, yet, as I'm still working on George's descendants. Maybe with his name you can verify some records you already have.

Thanks,
K Sosbee

I have what you're looking for. Nancy Jane Claybrook aka Nannie b. 26 Dec 1847 in California, Moniteau County, Missouri to George Washington Claybrook and Jemima Hix/Hicks. She married Stephen W Stone around 1862 and they had 6 children - Marion E, Edward B, Mattie, Mamie E, Eunice and Lois. She married Francis M. Mansfield 03 Mar 1895 and then married Dr. Nathaniel Hutchison McGirk around 1908. By 1910 2 of her children were deceased - 1 was Lois, I haven't confirmed who the other one was, yet. She did not remarry after his death. She was not married to a Mitchell, but her daughter, Mamie, was married to Thomas C Mitchell - this is the next of kin on her death certificate. You can email me at derekandkirsten@suddenlink.net and I will send you the census records and copy of her death certificate.

Hi Teri,

My Elizabeth is a long shot. I show her youngest sister, Molly, borh in 1764, when their father was i3 years old. My data is sketchy, at best, as this branch has proved very difficult to trace.

I show her as the daughter of Peter and Mary, maiden name unk., Claybrook who are believed to have spent their entire lives in Va. Elizabeth had 9 brothers and sisters all born in Va. Another of her sisters, Lucy, is believed to have died before March 4, 1850, in White Co. Tennessee.

It is known that their grandfather, Obediah, seperated from his family after being excluded from his father's will and gave rise to the branches located today in Martinsville, Va., Stoneville, N. C., and Tennessee. Also, it is indicated that the Ala. and Mason Co. Ky. branches came from this group.

It is very suspect, but I show Elizabeth as married two times. One is to John Whitworth which resulted in one child, Martha Claybrook Whitworth, who married John Searcy. The other marriage was to John Dinning and was childless.

Teri, I am not sure this is the Elizabeth you are looking for but hope so. As I said this a long shot and my information is very sketchy.

Hope we can connect,

Jim Johnson

I have been trying to unravel this branch of the Claybrook family tree for years, this is what I've got...
James T was indeed the son of James(son of Peter) and Lucinda(Elam) from Gibson,Tn....I don't know what happened to his mother, Lucinda but father James married a Susanne Williams in Gibson in 1865...(I can find nothing on this Susanne!!!)they had a son John Paul in 1868...Susanne died (childbirth???) and I find John P.(age 1) in 1870(Gibson Co.Dst12) living with Lucinda's sister Mary and John Williams and family...by 1880 James, James T, and John P are all in Texas,(Kaufman) eventually settling in Shackelford,Tx for several years...The elder James died(1919)...James T. went to Ok. and John P. to Clay than to Wilbarger,Vernon,Tx., where he died...James T helped raise his younger brother John P...
any input on this? greatly appreciated!!!!

I have very limited info, my GG Grandfather Joseph Claybrook married Sylvia Thompson 20 Dec 1868 in Lauderdale Co, I believe his older brother was Willis Claybrook who married a woman named Alice East in 1867. My problem is I have nothing else to go on. What I know from family oral history is the family came from Alabama, to Humbolt, TN then to Elkville, IL. I haven't found a thing earlier than the marriage record. As you know African American searches prior to the emancipation can be a bit challenging to say the least.

Maybe we can help each other out. Looking for information on my great great grandfather Joe Claybrook. I'm fairly sure they are from the Humbolt? Hamboll? Tenn area. Joe was married to Sylvia Thompson and they had 4 sons--Charles, Willis, Joe, and Lewis. Do you have more specific information about James?
