My grandmother's sister Emma May Lawrence b Somerton Somerset 1877 married William Henry Cleal in 1907. I believe he came from Bradpole, Dorset. There is a William Cleal aged 5 in the Union Workhouse Bradpole in 1881. I cannot trace any parents. Does anyone know of any? It seems so sad a child of 5 in a workhouse!

Hi Rodger do you have any information on an Emanuel slade Cleal or Cleall, it is thought that he was born in beaminster, south perrot, Dorset to perhaps a Judith Slade and a james Cleall in 1842-45?? is there any information on his parents and siblings? he eventually migrated to australia and married a scottish immigrant Joanna Mcivor. thanks

I have been trying to get back on this site since forever. I am Laura my mother is Irene Cleal Jurevics, daughter of Earl Cleal. I would love a copy of that photo. I don't know if any of you are aware, but my uncle Earl Michael Cleal passed away this last Sunday. He loved this family tree stuff.

I am not sure why I asked that. My contact's trail led back to Ireland. Despite being in the same general area, they are entirely distinct from the line that married into the Cleals. I didn't think that "Tayler" was an Irish spelling. My contact thought that they originated in Scotland.

I found a Tayler born in Corop, Victoria. He doesn't seem to be one of mine. The number of false identifications on the mother's side has made me very cautious.

This has information on my grandpa Donald and his brothers George and Paul Cleal. Not sure how this goes together with the information you have but all the same names are used so there should be a connection. My grandpa had a sister Harriet.

Harriet Pacey's maiden name was Pacey. After she divorced George Cleal she married her cousin Joseph Pacey, after divorcing him she married a John Sackley.

1841 and 1851 census records for the Channel Islands, Guernsey, show a Julia Cleal born about 1839 to Hugh and Mary Cleal. She is gone by 1861 but the parents remain in guernsey with her siblings. Hugh was born in Dorset, according to a later census, but I have no more detail than that at the moment.

Winifred E A Cleal died 1957 aged approx 64 in London, so it looks as if she never married. If you can get her death certificate it may show who registered the death which may be a lead?

I am trying to trace my Great Grandmother - Winifred Elizabeth Ann Cleal. I know her parents are William Francis Cleal and Sarah Virgin. Winifred was born on 7th June 1892 in Kensington. Winifred had a son Edward Cleal (born on 21st October 1916) he is my Grandad. On my Grandad's birth certificate no father is shown.
I am trying to find out if she was married, had any other children and when she died.

Thank you kindly for your response to my posting. I have sent you an email under separate cover, and I look forward to corresponding with you. My bigest hurdle and my quest is to find the birth place and birth date of George Daniel Cleall. I have a copy of his death certificate and his marriage certificate, and it states that his father was also called George Cleall. But I have searched and searched the UK BDM records as well as the census records but have not come up with my George Daniel Cleall. It is so frustrating! as you can imagine. I will contact Carol Johnson tonight and try to pick up the thread again.

My Grand Father was George Roberts. One of Fanny Frances Cleall's younger brothers. In Rae's book she did not know what happened to my grand father. By a stroke of luck I had been researching Our family too and was able to tell her he came to NZ. I made contact just after her book was published. One of George & Francis Cleall's direct descendants Carol Johnson - Photo in Rae's book - may be able to give you the information you seek. Have you got her E Mail address? I have just been able to log into Ancestry.com.au again and found your post from July. Wow,I am back to researching my Cleall ancestors. I apologise for the late response to your message, but I am only now back on-line with Ancestors.com.au. Hope you are still interested in helping me find my George Daniel Cleall.

So, if I understood you correctly, your Grandfather was George Henry Robers (b. 1863). I don't have any more family details on this line of the Roberts family. Perhaps you can fill me in. I have been in touch with Rae Welfare (nee Roberts) and have a copy of her book "A New Dawn". I am still digesting her book and adding information to my tree.

I would love to correspond with you about Francis Cleall and her husband George Daniel Cleall. Do you have any information on George via Frances Cleall? I have been unable to trace his place and Date of Birth? Any help you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated.

I came across your posting. Francis (Fanny) Cleall (nee Roberts) was my Fathers Aunty, my Great Aunt so I guess we are related. My Grand Father was George Roberts Son of Robert Roberts and Caroline Roberts nee Sandford, a younger brother of Francis, who came to New Zealand. All that family were born around Salisbury in South Australia.

Yes -I am related from the 'Thomas' you mention. Christened 7.11.1802 as John in the Baptism Register and Thomas in the Parish Register.
John Cleal married Eliza Clare 4.9.1828 In Stoke Abbott and their third child Richard Giles Cleal 5.1.1834 was the line from which I am decended.
The problem is in the reverse in that while Ann Munden can be traced back John Cleal who was born about 1771 cannot. There is a definitive paper on this which regretably I cannot locate at the moment.

Harold's father was Ernest Edward Cleall (b. 1895 in Sydney and died 1930 in Wollongong) Ernest married Lilian May Gregory. Ernest's mother was Emma (Emily) Jane Cleall (b. 23-12-1877 in Salisbury, S.A. Australia and died 25 Nov.1969 in Picton, NSW. Ernest's father is unknown. Emma's father was George Daniel Cleall (bet.1841-1845 in England) and he married Frances (Fanny) Roberts on 10 June 1874 in his residence in Salisbury, S.A. Australia. George Daniel Cleall died on 22 Jan 1884 in Parkside, S.A., Australia. I am hoping you can lead me to further information our the Cleall ancestors. I am particularly interested in finding out when and where George Daniel Cleall originated from and of course who his parents were.

SAMUEL BETTS (1833-1901) married in 1858 in Glebe NSW Australia, JULIA CLEAL. She died in 1929 in Ryde NSW, at the age of 92 years, parents unknown. Nearly all of her children listed below bore the name CLEAL.

My Cleals were part of the Beaminster lot !

I have A John Cleal who marries Ann Munden on the 19th November 1791, I know Ann Munden came from Beaminster (christened September 1768), but then I am stuck - did that John Cleal come from Beaminster or move there and who were his parents ?

John Cleal went on to have 4 children (as far as I know) Thomas (1801)(my ancestor) Jane (1793) Joseph (1795) and Mary (1798)

Some of the messages here are very old so I am just hoping someone replies!

BTW My Cleals moved to the Thames Valley, but later two of them moved to Dorset (Bournemouth)

Your father Harold Cleal and my great grandfather Lyle Minor Cleal were brothers. My mother remembers her great uncle Harry but lost touch with a lot of the family after the passing of Lyle. So you would be a first cousin to my grandfather Earl George Cleal, now deceased. I just responded to a lady looking for information on Marion Cleal my grandfathers sister (also deceased) who married Hallie Ky Jones in the early 50's. If we can be of any help let me know - I would love to see how far back our family tree goes

Marian Cleal was my grandfather Earl's sister. She and Hallie Ky were married in either 50 or 51, they had three daughters - Tarey, Susie and Pam. After Hallie's death, Marian married Lou Trebolt and had 3 more children, Louie, Margie and Billy.
