Hugh V & Catherine Phelan Cleary were my great, great grandparents. No relations to Bishop Cleary, but I'm trying to figure out where they came from in Ireland. Family rumor says Tipperary and Galway, respectively. I believe they're buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Kingston, Ontario.

Do you have any info on Hugh & Catherine?

I'm looking for information about the children of John and Mary Cleary (nee Fogarty). John Cleary was born in 1876 in Ireland. Mary, also from Ireland, was born in 1881. The were married in New York.

I'm particularly looking for one child in particular who was called Cecelia (or Celie). I find no record of a Cecelia, so that may have been a middle name or even nickname.

Any information would be very helpful.

Cecelia (I'm told) married a man whose last name was Schmidt or Shmitt, and they had a son named George Carl. George was later raised by his aunt (Cecelia's sister) Catherine Elizabeth Cleary.

Please do add any information if you have it, or feel free to get in touch with me personally. George Carl was my father.

Death of A. S. Cleary - in California, 1924

Transcribing obits and death announcements from our local paper (Scotia, Nebraska- near North Loup, Nebraska). Thought someone might be interested in this:

The Scotia Register
Volume XXXII, Thursday, September 2, 1926, pg. 1, column 6
BODY OF A. CLEARY FOUND
The body of A. S. Cleary, formerly of North Loup, who disappeared from Forest Home mountain resort in California, August 28, 1924, was found by two young men hikers on August 16, 1926.
The body was discovered part way down the steep slope of a mountain where it had lodged in a fallen tree and remained for two years undisturbed, although repeated searching parties had scoured the mountain sides in all directions.
John and Charley Cleary of Santa Ana, were notified and they immediately went to San Bernardino, and in company with the coroner and others, got the body and identified it.
Mr. Cleary had evidently followed a mountain path and climbed to quite a height when he either fell or slipped, or else suffered an attack of heart failure. The body was in a dried and mummified condition which made recognition possible.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

I have a checkmark before the words, "Send me an alert when anyone replies to this thread," but I often don't get them.
I am primarily researching the name Spillane, but sometimes, if I can find a living descendant, they have information on both the mother's and the father's family.
I did some checking and it looks as if Catherine Spillane, daughter of Edward Spillane and Mary Cleary married a Powell. If you would like me to work with you to see what direction each of us could take, you could email me. I have his fiddle hanging in my dining room. This is one of the items that he brought over with him when he cam over. Perhaps we are related. My grandmother Alice Cleary married Daniel Murray. Both my grandparents passed away with the Spanish flu between 1918 and 1922. My great grandparents are buried in St.Joachim Quebec. Please let me know if this is the same or similar information that you have

Hi Catherine, I'm Susan Honea and my great grandfather was Victor Shuler who filmed silent movies during the 1920's. My son is making a film about Victor and through our research we found that my great aunt, Victor's daughter-in-law knew May McAvoy. May gave my great aunt, Ruth Gregory Shuler some of her "movie star" clothes and even some furs which Aunt Ruth's daughter Dixie found after Ruth's death; the furs had deteriorated because they weren't stored properly. Anyway, I wondered if you had any photos of my family among May's belongings or letters from them, etc. We have a newspaper clipping of Patrick's birth announcement with May holding newborn Patrick (who was a beautiful baby). You can view more about the film at victorshulermovie.com Thank you!

Wow, that was a long time ago that I posted this. My e-mail address is different: naylsu@aol.com. Yes, those Clearys with the tugboat business are my Clearys. They were in business with a McMullen I believe. Do you know where Clearys came from in Ireland? Please reply a little sooner than I did. Sorry. Didn't remember where I'd posted this.

Sue

Cleary Family Ireland to Australia

I am looking for any information on a Cleary family from Ballarat area. Sarah Maria Cleary married Benjamin Henry Clack and had 11 children i have all information on this family. I am having problems with finding Sarah family on her marriage certificate it has her father and mother as Stephen Cleary and Mary Ann Benn or Bannon. Sarah was born in Ireland i have found no record of their arrival in Australia from Ireland. But at Benjamins funeral one of the pall-bearers was a Cleary with no other name given. i have been stuck on this family for many years i dont know how many siblings Sarah had either. If there is anyone out there who is able to give me some help in some way that would be great.
Regards
Sandra Carter

However, I think mine were married well before 1870, as my great grandfather John was born in 1865. I'm not positive that Ellen was Ellen Cleary. Do you have any other information to go on?
Hi Regina, yes 1835 they got married. As far as I know they had 4 children, Catherine, Matthew and Richard. When Nicholas died at a young age Judith married his brother Patrick it seems and they had a son John (born 1852). John emigrated to the US around 1875 and settled in Ohio I think. His half Matthew (born 1846)and sister Catherine (born 1838)settled in Pittsburg PA. There doesnt seem to be any record of a Bridgid in our family tree but I will check it out.
Rose
