claudine cleaver

I am looking for any information on Claudine Cleaver, born 1896 in Birmingham, Warwickshire but listed on the 1901 census as being in Tregynon, Montgomereyshire, Wales. She is with the Davies family and described as a grand daughter. I am hoping she is the child of my great great grandmother, Kate Davies (Davis) who married a Cleaver but a Kate is listed on the same 1901 census as single? Very confused with the Cleavers in general! Karenanne

Edward's son William John Cleaver, born abt 1860, married Mary Ann in 1879. I have him in the house of his brother Alfred in the 1881 Census though. Edward is my g-g-g-grandfather (through William). You seem to have a bit more info concerning Edward than I have. What I am trying to confirm is the name of Edward's wife?

I am researching a Nicholas Cleaver from Poland who married Lucy Zuvarnu, also from Poland. They had 6 (known) children. Catherine (1912, Lemberg,Poland - 2009), Mary, Anna, Elsie, Olive, and John. Catherine emigrated to Canada in the spring of 1914 through Halifax, Noca Scotia with her mother and two sisters.

I recently come across an address for a great uncle of mine who is thought to have emigrated to Australia in the 1920s. He is probably George Percy Cleaver, born in London UK in 1873, my grandfather's brother and one of 9 children of George J. Cleaver, a (violin)cellist.

The address is:
Mr G Cleaver
36 Beach Road
Edgecliffe
Sydney
Australia

Does anyone know whether this address still exists, or have any Cleaver relatives who may have lived there in the 1920s?

I gather George jumped ship fromm a liner in the 1920s (he was a musici8an on board) and had a daughter Aida in Syndey.

Does this ring any (antipodean) bells?

Regards

Martin Cleaver (mcleaver@altavista.net)
Amsterdam/Harwich,UK

My Aunt, Dorothy Rae (Weatherwax) Fisher was married to Mr. Cleaver, first name as yet unknown. They had a child, Marta Jean, prob. born ab.t 1940-1950 or so. Dorothy died in 1984 in FL. I am hoping to connect with someone who knew the family - or possibly with even Marta herself. The family split up and I never knew my aunt or cousin. They may have lived in CA, or possibly CO. I don't have much info but hoping it might ring a bell with someone.

thanks,
Patti

I am not a direct descendant of Dr. Israel Cleaver, but I am looking for members of his family, to share information about our common ancestor(s). Dr. Cleaver (Civil War surgeon) died in Reading in 1926 and was married to Lorena Moore. At the time of his death he had three children: Wilbur M. Cleaver (NY), Helen Guthrie Cleaver (PA), Hattie Cleaver Boas and a brother, John Westley Cleaver. In the 1910 census for NYC 40 year old Wilbur lived with his wife, Grace M of CT and his mother-in-law, Mary H Sumner. In the 1920 census Wilbur was living in NYC, married to Grace S of CT, and had a 15 year old son named Robert S. In the 1930 census, son Wilbur (NYC) had a wife named Emilie P. and a 14 year old daughter named Edith M. Cleaver.

Are you related to any of these Cleavers?

I have tried to find their descendants but I keep stumbling on all the John's that appear in and around the village. can any one help?

Ok so I'm doing my family tree to find a massive hinderence; my nan doesn't know her mothers maiden name and because there was a fight with her siblings i cannot ask them. I know that my Great-Nan married a Arther Smith (my Great-Pop) and that they had seven children together; including my Nan. My Nan was born in 1938 and is the one of the younger children. If you could help me I'ld be grateful.

I am researching my Cleaver family tree. I have got quite a bit of info but wouls like more. All the Cleaver's in my tree were born in Kent, England. So far I have got back as far as my great great great great grandfathe James Cleaver who was born c1780 and I think he married a girl called Elizabeth Finch born c1790 also in Kent.
I would really like toknow who James' paremts were and if he had any siblings. I know that James and Elizabeth had a son, William Cleaver c1815 who was my great great great grandfather and he married an Eliza Newton c1818, again both born in Kent. Eliza was recorded as an invalid in 1881 and 1891 censu. She was infact blind. Again, I would like to know if William had any siblings. I know that William and Eliza had the following children:- James 1838,(married Hannah Wall and had 2 sons), William c1841 (married Elizabeth Cheeseman and had 3 daughters and 1 son), George 1843, Eliza 1845 (married William Marsh and had 5 sons), Sarah 1850 (married John Asle and had 2 sons), Alfred 1853 (married Elizabeth Maple and had 4 sons and 4 daughters), Edwin 1855 (married Emily ? and had 5 sons and 6 daughters) and finaly Frederick 1859 (married Frances Page and had 6 children). Frederick and Frances were my great great grandparents.

I have got more information which I am willing to share. I would especialy like to find out any information on my great grandfather's brother who was Herbert Cleaver 1893 and emigrated to Canada in 1911 and married Amy Jane Hayward in 1912. Did they have any children etc?

Hello, yes Frederick Cleaver was born in London in 1911 and his wife was born in Gateshead in 1916. Her name was Antonia Risi. They married in 1937 in London and had a daughter called Marguerite also born in London in 1938. Frederick didn't serve in the Army. He served in the Royal Navy in England during WWII. After that they emigrated to Australia in 1951. I am their second daughter. They are both deceased now. If you need any further information please leave an e-mail address.

Re: Cleaver's from KENT, ENGLAND

Hi Angela,

Ive just sent the below email to your email address and posted it below, looks like we're related!:

Hope you don't mind me emailing you. I am Terry Cleaver a direct descendent of William Cleaver or Clever born 1815 in Westbere, Kent who married Eliza Newton in 1838, the same year their eldest son James Cleaver was born (Dec 1838) in Whitstable/Swalecliffe.

I found your post on a rootsweb message board and thought it would be best to email you as I don't have a username on there. I have yet to find another Cleaver relative who I didnt know existed related to our Kent line. I still live in Kent, infact in Dover only say 14 miles from Westbere.

Your comment is below:

"

Did they have any children etc?"

To answer some of your questions, although I think your posing more questions to me actually! But here goes...

James Clever or Cleaver is William Cleaver's father. That I do know from receiving William's marriage cert to Eliza Newton with the following details:

Married in the Parish Church of Whitstable, 13 May 1838: Willm Clever, 24 and Eliza Newton, 21 Bachelor and Spinster respectively. William is a labourer, very common in the Cleaver line! Both living in Whitstable at time of marriage, Eliza's home town. His father James Clever, a labourer. Her father Wm Newton, a labourer.

Details from James Cleaver's birth cert:

September 14th 1838, born in Whitstable (District of Blean) James, Male, Father: William Cleaver, Mother: Eliza Cleaver formerly Newton,
Registered: Sept 28th 1838

I have not heard of Elizabeth Finch as yet so that is most interesting and I have only recently got back as far as James you mention. It appears that name is a common name in the family hence the male descendent line to myself:

1) James Cleaver or Clever
2) William Cleaver and Eliza Newton
3) James Cleaver and Hannah Wall
4) Israel Moses Cleaver and Alice Joiner
5) Frederick Charles Cleaver and Ellen Fagg
6) Victor James Cleaver and Barbara Ellen Dennis
7) Anthony James Cleaver and Diane June Henley
8) Terry Jay Cleaver (myself)

That is how I am descended via James Cleaver born 1838 eldest son of William and Eliza. James married in 1838 did have two sons, James George Cleaver (eldest) and Israel Moses Cleaver who I am descended from, and we are still trying to work out where the unusual name came from too! Eliza is recorded as invalied in the cenus and If I remember rightly they had a nurse looking after her when they were living in Cheesman's Farm, Acol on the Isle of Thanet.

I believe as I have found them in 1901 living with daughter Sarah and her husband whose surname I have as ASH from the census not the ASLE you have (!) were living in the Faversham area, Luddenham to be precise. It is known we have a lot of relatives in Sittingbourne area but as yet we don't know where they fit on the tree.

Of William's (and Eliza's) children this is the details I have:

Alfred b app 1853 Chislet married Elizabeth b. 1854 Littlebourne, Had children: Alfred, George, Eliza(s), William, Albert H, Arthur, Edwin F, Ellen E, and Louisa M

Edwin b. 1855 Chislet married Emily b 1855 Fordwich, had children: I have 12 children!!!

Frederick b. 1859 Kent married Frances b, 1855 Eythorne: 5 children

Sarah Ann b. 1850 Chislet married John Ash. Two children, Sydney John and Charles Thomas

William b. 1840 in Westbere, married Elizabeth b, 1841 Bekesbourne: 4 children

So I take it you are descended from Frederick b. 1859 and Frances? Although for their kids I have: William, Frederick, Edith, Frances and Mabel. No mention of a Herbert, where does Herbert fit in? Be most interesting to know.

By the way my whole tree is online @ http://terrycleaver.tribalpages.com - do have a look, might make it much easier to comprehend! By the way William born 1815 is also my GGG grandad, meaning we must be on the same generation. Are u based in Kent or UK? Be interesting to know of any Canadian connections, so far I just thought we were Kent through and through, we still are down my side.

Do please email me back with some info and I hope I have helped a little.

Best wishes

Terry Cleaver
Dover, Kent, UK

Re: Dr Israel Cleaver (PA) -> Wilbur M Cleaver (NY) -> Edith/Robert Cleaver ? (NY)

Yep, these mare mine! Hattie Cleaver Boas was my great grandmother. I have a number of family pieces form that side, including the engraved walking stick that Dr. Israel was given by his class, as well as the big wooden chest he used to store his medical supplies when he started his practice in Philipsburg.

Can you tell me more about Isreal's siblings? I have his parents and the rest of the line back to Peter, but I'm missing most of the siblings along the way.
