I found listings for a Ray C. Clemens in Santee, CA on Abbeyfield Rd and one on Kenney St. There is also a Ray c. Clemens, Jr. on Abbeyfield. There is a Ray Clemens on Augusta Ct. in El Cajon, CA.

I have a question for you...is your mother's maiden name Devers, per chance?

While you may be a relative of Samuel Langhorne Clemens neither of you is a direct line decendant. The great author had one grandchild and she died 16 Jan 1966 leaving no children.

West Branch, Iowa - John Clemens, 49, West Branch, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a brief illness.

Graveside services are at the West Branch Cemetery, West Branch. The Barker Funeral Home, West Branch, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clemens was born Oct. 23, 1953, in Germany, the son of Sigfred and Karola Kahlemberg Clemens. He was married to Deanna Davisson from 1982 until 1993.

He had lived most of his life in Cedar Rapids moving to West Branch several years ago.
Survivors include a son, Wes J. Clemens of Des Moines; a daughter, Monica Clemens of West Branch; a granddaughter, Alexis; and the mother of his children, Deanna K. Clemens Pedersen of West Branch.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

So far I have not run across a William George Clemens. Here is what I have:

he married in 1829 to Jane Hudson

and James E.
So, Hannibal was Mark Twain's uncle

Does anyone have a Clemens/Clemmons family that died about 1819-1823 - supposedly from an indian attack?

My Christina Clemens (same Twain stories)- but I can't connect her to parents. I am thinking her dad might have been William, since she named her only son, william.

Unfortunately, the only names of the Christina Clemens family are in my post. I have many descendants information by nothing other than Christina's name and then her marriage, death and children's names.

My line, Christina's youngest child:
William Henry DeSollar.
b. 3/19/1845 Morgan Co., IL
d. 5/7/1896
md. Sedarah Ann Bobbitt on 9/11/1879 in El Dorado, Butler Co.,Kansas and they lived there until about 1883.

The Bobbitt's were living in Kansas city in 1879 and it is my assumption that Mr DeSollar knew and courted Miss Bobbitt before in Morgan Co., IL when they were both living there.(Wm in Jacksonville, Sedarah in Bethel)...ie before the Bobbitt's went to live in Kansas.

My tree is open to view on ancestry: Wohlers-Lawson if you want to look at what other names are connected.

Martha, do you know where William B. was born at in Ky. or the name of his wife? Did William B. have any siblings and what was the name of his children? Any information that you can think of may help.

My g grandfather's name was John Charles Clemens. He had a brother named James Franklin and two sisters named Elzira and Martha Ann.

If Hannibal had an earlier wife then I may be descended from him.

There is one other thing that could possibly help you. It's a YDNA test. If you have a male Clements relative that would be willing to take this test it may help lead to your Clements line. The site is www.familytreedna.com. There are quite a few members of the Clements/Clemmons/Clemens family with dna markers listed there.

I took the test and even though it hasn't led me directly to my Clemens family it has led me to probable relatives of my ancestors. It could give you a definite direction for you to search in. If you have any questions about it I'll be glad to answer them if I can.

Sorry but I don't have a fax. It looks as though William B. wouldn't follow my line unless he had a brother.

I do have a reference to a William Clemons born in Pulaski, Ky. in 1823. He died in Mo. in 1878. It doesn't have his wife listed as Martha Ann Cahill though.

If I find anything that I think will help you I'll be sure to let you know.

I just started the research so it may take a little bit for me to let you know anything concrete. I know some of one my Clemens are from Georgia & Kansas but that's just speculation at this point.

Thanks for your posting. William B Clements was born in Kentucky. It is just a hunch but back then people married young and I thought maybe Hannibal would have married in his early 20s. William B was my gg grandfather but I cannot find his father or mother. I thought possibly his mother had died in childbirth. My grandfather always told me that Mark Twain was his gg uncle. Hannibal was Mark Twain's uncle. I have proof of all of this except WB's father. Any help you can give me would be most appreciated.

William B Clements (my grandfather said at one point some people in the family changed it to Clements.
He was born in Kentucky on 11 Feb 1823, Married to Martha Ann Cahill in Warren, Marion County, missouri on 30 Oct, 1855. I am named after her. They had the following children: Thomas Cahill Clements (my great grandfather, Elizabeth (no date), William Rupell Clements 16 June 1861, David Clarence Clements 13 Aug 1863, Frank Bowman Clements 05Oct 1866,Samuel Booker Clements 10 Oct 1869. All of this information is from the family bible my grandfather had. I have lots of proof on these people. Do you have a fax? I could send you a fax of this stuff. I live in Spokane, WA. But grew up in Wichita, Kansas, Somehow maybe we can get this straightened out.

The earliest I have on the Clemens/Clements line is my great great grandfather, William B. Clements born 11 Feb 1823 in Kentucky. I have every one after him proven by my grandfather's family bible. I think that maybe Hanibal Clemens might be his father, assuming he had an earlier marriage with a different wife who might have died in childbirth. He was 26 when he married Jane Hudson Jones. I don't know what you have but MAYBE some help.

No I don't know where in Kentucky Wm. B. Clements was born on 11 Feb 1823. He married Martha Ann Cahill in Warren, Marion, MO on 30 Oct 1889. Their children were: Thomas Cahill Clements, Elizabeth Clements, William Rupel Clements, David Clarence Clements, Frank Bowman Clements and Samuel Booker Clements. If Hannibal was William B's father, later Hannibal married Jane Hudson Jones and they had 2 or 3 children, one was named John Marshall Clemens who was a nephew of Mark Twain's father (John Marshall Clemens) He and Hannibal were brothers. Their father was Samuel B. Clemens.

Hi again. I am anxious to hear from you. Would love to see the pictures you have. As I said in my previous message I have lots of information on Thomas Cahill Clements. His father was William B. Clements who married Martha Ann Cahill Clements. Thomas and his first wife Hannah Snell had two boys, Wilbur and William. She died of complications from the second birth. Then Thomas married a Susie Bradford and they had 3 girls (I think). I will be glad to share anything I have with you. My grandfather Wilbur,also told me that he was related to Mark Twain. I think Mark Twain's uncle, Hannibal Clemens might be William's father but so far I can't prove it.

I am looking for any information about my g-g-grandfather, John Clemens, born in Ireland in about 1826 and emigrated to the US in about 1850. He may have entered New York with his two brothers, one of whom may have been a butcher. He may have spelled their name as Clemmens (as seen in censuses), Clemmons, Clements, or McClements.

John Clemens married Hanora Murphy of Kilmalkedar, County Kerry, Ireland, in about 1859. Their son, John, was born in St. Francisville, Illinois, on March 22, 1862, and married Margaret Howley (born in Bloomingdale, Illinois, on Dec. 17, 1861) on Jan. 12, 1885.

Let me know if you have any information about John Clemens, his brothers (who may have stayed in New York or elsewhere in the East), or his son, John. Also, I've had my Y-DNA tested by Family Tree DNA to 67 markers, so we can compare values if you have DNA results, too.

according to a couple of books and one geneology site, Pleasant Clemens and Hannibal Clements were Sam Clement's uncles (2 of 4 clemens siblings of John Marshall). that Geneology site had no information about the families of his uncles.

My relative is Thomas Cahill Clements. I have a photo book with him and many in his family. His wife was Susie P. Bradford. This part of the Clements family lived in various parts of NE Missouri and the photos were taken in towns like La Plata. The story is that they came from Kentucky and are somehow related to Samuel Clemens. But, don't know who his father is.
