Bonjour Albert Clerc;
It is always a pleasure to know a new cousin!
(NOTE: I've also replied to this directly on what I believe is your individual email.)
Technically my grandfather was Fernando Carlos Rene Gandolfo, but all his life he went by Fernand Charles Gandolfo, or just, F.C. Gandolfo, Sr. Likewise, F.C. Gandolfo, Jr. was my uncle, and I have a cousin (ironically, however, not by F.C. Gandolfo, Jr.), named Fernand Clerc Gandolfo.
My father was Charles Bradley Gandolfo, fourth of five sons of F.C. Gandolfo, Sr., born 1906 in New Orleans. Both of my father’s parents died before I was born so I never knew very much about them, or their families, until I started doing my own research.
I know F.C. Gandolfo, Sr.’s parents were Joseph (or Jose) Gandolfo of Spain, and Marie Stephanie Clerc of Switzerland (but, raised in Paris). I know that he was her second husband and, that she was a widow.
I do have some additional information on the Clerc family courtesy of Philip Clerc of Lafayette, Louisiana, as well as a few details I’ve managed to dig up on my own. I’ve also visited the Clerc family crypt in Lafayette Cemetery in the New Orleans uptown Garden District area.
I would very much appreciate learning anything more you can add about “our” family. I would also be happy to share anything I have which may add some other details.
I’ve heard vague reasons as to why the Clerc family left New Orleans for New Iberia during the Civil War and find such stories of particular interest. I’m also curious as to the Clerc connection with Paris where I understand there is (or was) even a faubourg called the “Quartier Clerc.”
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Merci Beaucoup,
Gerald “Jerry” Gandolfo
