All the above are children of John and Ellen Clerkin (my GGG/parents) who may have been from the Shercock (Shinan, Darkley and Corrickacreery townlands) area of Cavan, which is where the family were in the next generations. However, I cannot confirm at this time where John and Ellen were from, and there are links with Monaghan in the next generation: though John died in Darkley we believe.

There may be other children as there is a 7 year gap between two of the children (ie between 1867 and 1874) and there is talk of a Peter and a Rose.

There is alos mention of other places nearer Balieaborough

The James in the title block (my GG/f) married Mary Anne McPhilips (who was born in Monaghan) and they had the following children (and I am in contact with members of all the below families in England, Ireland and New York)

John Patrick 1897 (my G/f) (married Mary Doolan)
Mary Anne 1898 (married an O Reilly)
Alice 1900 (married a Thomas Smith)
Ellen 1902 (married an Owen Mullen)
James 1904 (married Annie Smith: sister of Alice's husband Tommy)
Maggie 1905 no records for: may have died before adulthood
Bridget 1909 married a man named Drum in New York

The next generation is too full to put up here, but if anyone has any of the above in their tree please do get in touch: i am interested to see if there is any link to the Virginia/Ballyjamesduff Clerkins as there are many common christian names within the two trees.

I am also interested in the Maggie born 1905: to find out what happened to her, and any missing children between 1867 and 1874.

Regards

Damian
