I have a different email now: genelistmom@yahoo.com/

Hello again,
Im still looking for my Cliburn family. I have found a few new things..such as JP (Joseph Peterson) Cliburn, (of Iowa) his dad was "Ephraim Cliburn" b. 28 Jun 1862-1863 in Jackson Co., Illinois and died 12 Apr 1947 in Perry Co., Illinois. They had lived also in St. Louis and Barton Co., Missouri, Iowa and Wisconsin. His (JP's) mother was Rose 'Alace' OWENS, d/o Joseph Kensey OWENS, of Indiana and Sarah Elizabeth RAMSEY/RAMSAY of Illinois. Some of the other surnames that run through the family are: Margaret CAIN of South Carolina & her parents-Patrick CAIN/E and Catherine COZZENS-both of South Carolina, then, Namcy Ann BLAIR of Ireland and TRIPLETT, Im not real sure of this last surname because the the first name is "BECKETT" TRIPLET. If anyone connects on any or all of this info please let me know. Most of my family ended up in Missouri and California, but there are allot of Cliburn's in Iowa too, I just have'nt been able to connect them as of yet.
Thank You and Happy Digg'en,
Sandee,
genelistmom@yahoo.com
Hi Terry! It is so good to find some of them Cliburn's!! My mother (Lena Estha Cliburn Brown) was one of 4 daughter's of John Marshall and Ella Gertrude Strickland Cliburn; there were also 7 boys. I am aware of the village, Cliburn or Claborn (I have found it spelled both ways.) I would LOVE to visit England and see the village. My daughter-in-law's step father is from England and he grew up not far from there. Van (Harvey LaVan Cliburn Jr.) was the son of my Uncle LaVan and Aunt Rilda Bee Cliburn. I think Uncle LaVan was the second born of my Grandmother Cliburn. I've met Van and seen he perform once when I was 11. He came to Waco, Texas (where I was born and raised.) I remember he was awesome on that piano. !:-) Thank you so much for the information on your branch of the Cliburn's. My email is MollyTx@gmail.com

To Molly Brown
We too are originally from England, my Father was also a distant relative of Van Cliburn! My fathers family lived in and around Copiah county(Hazelhurst,MS). Back to England; There are remnants of a small ancient village called Cliburn with the remnants of its church still standing(barely). Some surnames we're tied together with all the way back to England are of course Cliburn's, Harrison's, Hamilton's, Terry's. After England, seems the Cliburns immigrated to the Carolina's before heading to Mississippi then onto Texas & California. My grandfather Moseby Cliburn lost his life helping build the original Olympic coliseum in Southern Cal. Hope this some how helps with your part of the puzzle. My first name(Terry) and last(Cliburn) are actually both family surnames!
Some of my family from MS Cliburns:Terry, Cleo, Warren, Ojel, Irene, Inell, Moseby, Maryetta, Ellen, Ernistine
Respectfully
Good Luck with your journey!!!
Terry Cliburn

Re: James and Appy Cliburn's childrens names?

The children of James Cliburn (1803, NC - 1850, MS) and Abigail (Appy) Pittman Cliburn (1805, NC - 1861, MS) are as follows: Henry William, b. 1819, NC; Alexander S., b. 1822, GA; William A., b. 1828, MS; Almetia, b. 1831, MS; John Barnes, b. 18 Jan 1831, MS, d. 3 Oct 1863, MS; Columbus, b. 1833, MS, d. 1910, MS; Calvin K., b. 1834, MS, d. 1868, MS; Susan, b. 1838, MS; Amy (Appy), b. 1840, MS; Stephen Lafayette, b. 1844, MS; and Francis Marion, b. 1845, MS. This information came from the old Cliburn/Sills genealogy book published in 1950's when some of their children and grandchildren were still living. All Mississippi locations are Lawrence County, mostly New Hebron. Many are buried in the Cliburn-Sills Cemetery, but only a couple of them actually have headstones. I come through Calvin K. Cliburn and his wife Mary (Polly) Neal. I hope I was of some help to you.

Hello and welcome to the Cliburn board. Do you have other info?? such as birthplace, dates, who they married and/or death dates? I perfer that you don't list living relatives. How far back have you been able to go?? I find that the Cliburn name, and the many spellings over the years are hard to track!!. Mine ended up in Missouri from the east coast, more than likely Virginia so far. Here is my line, hope that it will help someone else or maybe catch someone's eye that is a relative..

J.P. CLIBURN (Joseph Peterson) b.05 Mar 1889 in Foster Iowa and d. 03 Apr 1935 in Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and buried in Cuba, Crawford Co., MO. He married Sarah Emma McLEOD 14 Oct. 1913 in St. Charles, MO. she was b. 12 Aug. 1894, St. Louis (Maplewood)MO.
J.P.'s father: Ephraim CLIBURN b. 28 Jun 1862 in Jackson Co., ILL. and died 12 Apr 1947 Pickneyville, Perry, Illinois. J.P's mother: Rose Alace OWNES, b. 25 Sep 1870 in Missouri and died 26 Dec. 1965 in Cuba, Crawford Co., MO. and is also buried there. Ephraim & Rose were divorced, dont know when..??
Parents to Ephraim: John P. CLIBURN/CLYBURN, b. abt. 1835 in Tenn. and died (date Unkn) in Jackson Co., Ill. He married Eliza C. (LNU) b.abt.1839 in Kentucky.
Parents to John P.: Ephraim/John CLIBURN b. abt. 1815, I dont know where as of yet. That is all I have other than a brother CLIBURN (J.P) married Sarah McLEOD and J.P's sister Birtha CLIBURN married the brother of Sarah McLEOD, so we have 2 CLIBURN's & 2 McLEOD's marrying into each family..very confusing some times!! I have been told that we are from the CLIBURN Hall Family but this is all that I can verify so far. Good Hunting and looking forward to your post.
Sincerely,
Sandee,
genelistmom, Board Admin.

I am a descendant of Mary Elizabeth Cliburn who lived in Bradley County, Arkansas right before the Civil War and married a John P. Hobson. I believe her mother was Sarah C. Stewart Cliburn for she was in Bradley Co. Arkansas on the 1860 and 1870 census. Does anyone have the exact death date of Alexander S. Cliburn, and was it in MS or AR?

I am trying to establish the connection between those generations. If you know of any proof, please let me know.
Also, Alexander's father: was it James Cliburn married to Appy Pittman?

Olivia Olson
olivolson@gmail.com

Thank you.

I think the surname was Cliburn before it was Clyborn, Clyburn, or anything else. The crossroads in England is Cliburn, pronounced Clibburn (with a short i). Angela Claire Clyburn is source of much information, although much misinformation is present because it was given to her wrong. Hers was a great undertaking and to be commended.

The other information I have found is from other tree members which isn't always accurate. I have noticed a change in spelling in the name from Clayborn to Clyburn to Cliburn in the my tree.
Hi List, Im looking for any info on or about the following OWENS:
Rosa Alice OWENS bp. Bolit {sp? not sure of spelling], MO. b.25th Sept. 1870, date of marriage 20th June 1885, no name of husband or death date for her.

Joseph Kennison OWENS bp. Indiana b. 28th March 1847 and
died 28th March 1917.

This name was entered into the Bible above Joseph's name:
Sarah Elizabeth RAMSEY b. 5th Aug. 1843 I do not know if she
was his wife or some other relative...?

Rosa's name is below the names of Sarah E. McLEOD and Joseph Peterson CLIBURN, which are my Grandparents.
Rosa was born 23 years before Grandma, or perhaps she is a relative to J.P. CLIBURN?? I don't know and I seem to have a blind spot in putting this puzzle together, any help would be very much appreciated... some of the other names in the Bible are [other than stated above] MACKE, COLLINS AND MOORE. I also believe that KENNISON was a surname as well as PETERSON, both being used as middle names in the Family Bible. There are a lot of McLEOD's and CLIBURN's. Once again thank you for any help that any of you can give.
Sandee

This is certainly possible. A number of Cleburnes moved Ireland from Westmoreland Co, England in the 17th Century. They lived in Southern Ireland for some time and many of those descendants came to America, three of whom (at least) fought in the Civil War as officers for both the North and the South. (Adm. Dr. Chistopher Cleburne, USN; Maj. Gen. Patrick Ronayane Cleburne, CSA, and Cpt. James Cleburne, CSA (Patrick's brother). Both Patrick and James were killed in battle and Dr. Christopher Cleburne survived the war.

I have some information the Irish Branch at "www.claybornfamilyresearch.com" See if anything matches your line.

Van is the son of Harvey Lavan Cliburn, son of John Marshall Cliburn, son of James Barnes Cliburn, son of John Barnes Cliburn. I'm also trying to get more information (before John Barnes Cliburn). My great grandmother was John Marshall's sister Mary Amanda. My grandmother was Josephine Baklin. Feel free to e-mail me at angelhologram at bellsouth dot net (obviously change the at and dot to the symbols @ and . just typed it that way to keep away spammers). If you come across any info before John Barnes I would be very interested.

I went to the Library and found a number of books relating to this and copied them for the list..The name of the
books are as stated in the other post.. I'm not sure for a fact but I think if you go to your Library they will have the same books and there are many updates to them. I have been
unable to get back there for further info and hoping that I will be well soon in order to finish the work. If you find anything of interest to the Cliburn/Claybourne list please feel free to post and we will all help each other to break down our Brick Walls.
Thank you for posting and hope to hear from you soon..
Sandee
genelistmom@yahoo.com

In the 1840 Pensioners Census, I found these....
In New Hampshire:
KILBURN, Eliphalet 87yrs old, head of household: Eliphalet KILBURN,Jr...[city/town] of Boscawen, Merrimack, CO...
In Maine..
KILBORN, John 85yrs old, head of house/same, Bridgton, Cumberland [sp could be KILBORNE].

ILL. Marriage.
CLIBURN, Elizabeth m. RANDOLP,William, 28Nov 1880, book #1 pg#37 Cert.#476

I was sent this one: William m. Margrat CLIBURN 30May 1697; Wm. died a pauper, bur.17Nov. 1716: Wm. son of Wm. bapt.15 July 1691.
I have no other info on that one..[?]

These are KY. marriages:
CLIBOURN, Mary Ann 13 Oct. 1845 m. WHITLOW, Jessie N.
witt: BROWN,John H.
CLIBURN, Mary J. 28Jan. 1867 m. Parrish, Isaac J. witt: SEMANDS, Wm....
This is all of the info I have of these families but as I was putting them in I got a very strange feeling, no I'm not one of those!, But do you relize that each one of these people probly had the same giddy, I'm getting married feeling that we too experienced!! I've been married for 35 years and we still have that feeling and all , well I'm sure there were those that had a shot gun pointed at them as my Great Grandfather did, not this surname. These Ancestors of ours, even though it seems like a very rough time in history to us, didn't know any different and they sky was blue and the sun was shine-ing and all was well to start on a new adventure and have a family so that I /you could be here and learn about them...

Re: Cliburn-Raggio in Miss.

Hi Teresa. Do you have any dates for your family? also do the children you named belong to the 1st wife and do you know her name? and/or if they belong to your Katie Mae? Did your Grady CLIBURN live in Miss. all of his life? Don't become overwhelmed by all the questions, I'm just trying to narrow things down. I can't seem to get past my Grandfather- J.P. CLIBURN ( Joseph Peterson), so all of these questions pertain to me also. J.P. b Iowa d.abt. 1935 in Crawford Co., MO. and bur. in the Kinder Cem., Cuba, MO.
Also have you found any different spellings? I have found a few and posted them along with other info I find along the way and I hope that someone has been able to use it, have you read the other posts? Well keep posting and sooner or later you will or some one on the list will post the info you are looking for. We have allot of good people on our list and very helpful too.!! Have you looked in any of the census records and found them?? If you have a Library close by they can have census records that you can look at and perhaps find something there too. Good Luck in your Hunting and I will be looking for a your Grady along with my J.P.
Sandee
