Orval Russell Click was my maternal grandma's brother. She was Jessie "Dorothy" (Click) Coltran. Their parents were:
Orval Robert Click & Jessie Bell Martin
(Orval Robert being the son of Abram Click & Emma D Jenkins Click, and Jessie Bell Martin being the daughter of John Martin & Catherine Helen "Kittie" Hawkins.)
Their dad Orval Robert Click had died just the prior October from Nephritis. Russell decided to drop out of engineering school at Kansas State University in Manhattan Kansas to keep his father's blacksmith shop in business. They were all living in Plains, Kansas.
That night something went wrong with the oxygen tank while he was welding. Some oldtimers said they knew of that explosion as it was downtown, and many had gone downtown that night across the street from our family's blacksmith shop. They were showing a movie in the movie house when the explosion occurred. Unlike the article, Grandma said her brother wasn't badly burnt on his skin except for a few places like his hands. Unfortunately, his lungs were severely damaged. They brought him back home from downtown and he survived for several more hours before he passed.
Grandma's sister, Marguerite, played his favorite records on his Victrola at his request. He died in his bedroom which was our back bedroom in the middle of the night. He was the last of his Click line as he was the only son.
Thanks again for the obituary, I will add it to his findagrave memorial.
My grandparents (Coltran's), great grandparents (Click's) + grandma's brother Russell & sister Marguerite, my great great grandparents (Martin's) + grandma's aunt Josephine Martin are all buried near each other. My great great grandmother (Kittie Hawkins Martin) parents are buried in the same cemetery, but a bit further away (Julius Jay Hawkins & Sarah Bell Davis) than the rest of them.
Thanks again for posting this obituary.
