Samuel was transported to Australia in 1818 aboard the "Neptune 1".
Nothing is known of his origins, except that he was a 'waterman', and was convicted at Northampton Assizes in July 1817 for "knowingly having forged a one pound note", and sentenced to 14 years in the Colony.
His children's name's are: Elizabeth, William, Joseph, Ann, James, Mary Ann, Samuel, John, Sarah Elizabeth M, and George.
I would appreciate any leads on these people. Thank you.
Ænone McRae-Clift

Why did the Clift's leave Washington KY?

I can find my GG Grandfather Alfred Clift in the Mason Co census through 1860. In 1880 he is in Cincinnati OH living with his daughter. In searching (page by page) the Mason Co. census for 1870, I cannot find any Clifts in the section for Washington or Maysville. Does anyone know what happened to the Clifts? They appeared to be farmers and landowners so did they lose their land during the civil war? Or does anyone know where Alfred and Louisa J. Clift are in the 1870 census? Thanks.

Clift who enlisted 18 Jul 1861 at Benton, AR in the 11th Ark Inf, Co D. He was captured 8 Apr 1862 at Island 10, MO & sent to military prison at Camp Chase, OH then transferred to Johnson's Island 24 Apr 1862 then to Vicksburg for exchange 1 Sep 1862.

Does anyone know what happened to the Joseph Clift b 1828 in AL, son of Wm W. Clift? He married Sarah Collie 17 Feb 1850 in Hot Spring Co., AR. He is on the 1850 & 1860 censuses but dies before 1870 census, possibly in Civil War. I originally thought he might have been the J.S. Clift of the "Fairplay Riflemen" who was captured at Island #10 and sent to Camp Butler, IL and died there May 20, 1862, but I recently found that was Jackson Clift, son of Harlan. There is another Joseph in Cocke's Ark Inf, Co I, who enlisted at Rockport, was captured at Helena and rejoined 28 Feb 1864. Help!!!

Researching great grandfather's family.I have a hand written note from deceased Uncle stating that Verner 's Father was Benton Joe Clift born 1844 in Onionta, Kentucky and his Mother was Florence Henderson born1846 in Onionta, Kentucky. Think I am related to Horatio Clift but Uncle's notes are misleading. Also Benton's son Verner married Blanche Boots. It has always been said she was part Indian. One of my goals is to prove or disprove this family story. Her parents were William Edward Boots born 1856 Onionta, Kentucky and Elizabeth Gilham born 1857 Onionta, Kentucky.
Cherie

Clift family from Virginia

I am looking for my Clift ancestors who came from Virginia. I know that my GGGG Grandfather Benjamin Clift came to Kentucky from Virginia and obtained land from a land bounty issued to William Clift from Virginia (Revolutionary War). I suspect that Benjamin was a brother of William. I have found an early record of a young William Clift who was in Virginia court documents in the late 1600's swearing that he was 14 years of age and was bound to service for 7 years to a Mr. King and that he (Clift) had just lately arrived in the US. My Clifts appear to have spent years in the areas of Caroline County and King George Counties of Virgina, which would not be too far away from where this young man arrived. Possibly he was the first of this Clift line in Virginia. I have no more information on this young man, who he married or who his children were. If any one has information to share on any of this line, I would be grateful.

Is anybody out there researching the line for John W. B. Clift, born in Bedford Co., TN to David and Diana Clift (some spellings given as Clifft)? John married a woman named Sarah in 1882 in Marshall Co., TN and the couple ended up in Fulton Co., Arkansas by 1900. John died in 1925 in Sharp Co., AR while Sarah died in 1933, also in Sharp Co., AR.

I'm trying to find out who the Sarah was that John W. married. Any clues will be most appreciated!

Thanks

He married a Mary Anne Mayer(Mayo?), but I do not know when, or if he married her in England. He died in 1847 in St. Louis, MO. If anyone can help me with this I would be extremely grateful. Thank you in advance! Lin Hendrickson

Lewis Clift of Trowbridge, Kent born c.1867

I'm hoping for more information on this man.

I think I have managed to work the following out, (without full access to the 1901 census):

In the 1881 census he is 14 and living with his parents Alfred and Mary at 5 Taylors Court, Trowbridge, Wilts.

In 1901 he is living with his wife Ann in Ystradyfogwg, Glamorgan, Wales. Also I believe with them is my mother's father, Thomas Smith, who was 13 at the time.

There is some uncertainty of the events that led Thomas to be living with the Clifts, but they were known to his children as grandma and grandpa Clift.

Thomas was born in Wattstown, Glamorgan - I don't know to whom - he married Gertrude Lloyd (b.c1901). He later joined the merchant navy and died in the early 1930s.

Any information much appreciated.

Andrew
In 1877 he was living at Cobden Place, Uxbridge and gives his wife's name as Emily Kate Clift formerly Nalder on my grandfather's birth certificate. I am particularly interested in finding information about Emily Kate as I cannot find any record of her birth under the name of Nalder nor can I find any record of her death under the name of Clift. Intriguing eh? Any help or leads no matter how small would be much appreciated.

I am attempting to trace back my branches of the family tree and could use whatever help anyone can give. My grandfather is Sampson Clift, from Saline County, Arkansas (1912-1979). He was married to Margaret Jane Bagley also of Saline County, (1915-1984). I was saw a marriage certificate for Sampson's parents and I remember that they were Daniel Boone Clift and Annie Rigsby. I know that in the family tree there is another Daniel Boone Clift, but he was born earlier. I believe that Daniel's parents were George Clift and Nancy Thompson. I have no dates for birth/marriage/or death for any of these names. I was trying on a long shot that in someone elses search than ran across some overlapping names. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Darren Clift

Henry G. Clift and Dorinda (Rennie) Parsons

Looking for information on Dorinda (Rennie) Parsons Clift. She and Henry G. were married December 1879, Jefferson Co. AL. Rennie probably died between 1880-1890. Would like to know if she is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, along with other members of Clift family. It is also reported they had two children, both of whom died as infants. Family says these children were buried in Oak Hill, but Sexton's records do not show this.

Henry's parents were George W. and Martha E. (Bullock) Clift, both buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Birmingham.

Reply to: bjparsons@aol.com
