Hi Sean

It is very probably you could be related to my Family. I'm not sure what you have on the family history however if The name Ernest Alfred Clift born in 1870 at Grenfell means anything to you then we are related, as Ernest's younger sister Frieda Pearl Clift was my grandmother. Ernest Alfred's was the first born child to Alfred Clift and Mary Jane Funnell and Alfred's father was indeed Joshua Clift who came out on the vessel - David McIvar with some of his young family. I do have other information on the Clift family if your interested in sharing. I can be reached by email jgrady54@hotmail.com

Hi Marcus, Great to hear from you.
I have Jessie And Richard on my tree. Jessie had 1 brother and 5 sisters one being Lilian May Clift who married her cousin William Charles Swiggs Clift(my Grandad). All of Williams children(by his first wife)have now pass over except my Father Bernard who now lives with us and is still going strong at 86. He can clearly remember Jessie and Richard from his days in Fowey and Golant where he spent much of the war with a Great Uncle of his. I to have many photos and documents which I would love to share with you if you were interested.
If you would like to contact me on my home address, b.clift@sky.com
I would happily send you what I have. I would also be very interested in the photos etc that you have.
Best regards
Brian Clift.

My 2nd great grandparents were Thomas Alfred Clift and Mary Ann Mayo. Thomas was born in Gloucestershire about 1805 and he supposedly died in Saint Louis, MO on his way to Utah, about 1852. He married Mary Ann Mayo around 1827 in England.
They had 4 children, all born in England. 1. Alfred Francis
Clift born in 1828 who married Maria Moss in Utah.
2. Francis Daniel Clift born in 1832 who married Virtue
Butcher in UT. 3. George Clift born in 1833 and died in
England. 4. Ruth Emma Clift (my great grandmother) born in
1840 in Birmingham, Eng. and died in 1883 in UT. She
married Walter William Edgington, probably in Utah.

I am trying to locate the whereabouts of my Mother-in-Laws father. He was borne in 1889 and married Beartrice Ethel Wells in 1912. my mother -in -law Agnes Mary Hannah Clift, was born in 1st Jan. 1916, and she hasn't seen her father since she was about 6 years old (around 1921). I have managed to locate the line back to Jonathan Clift B 1803, but I am drawing a blank on his movements after 1921. Can anyone help me with this quest, as she would really like to know something about her Father. Please bear in mind that she is now 94 years old.

Pat, I just sent you a copy of the UK 1941 census. It has Thomas Clift (Thos.Clift) Mary Ann Mayo Clift (Ann Clift) Alfred Clift, Francis Daniel Clift (although I think it looks like Aaneil) and Ruth Emma Clift (Emma, that seems to be what she went by))The only other thing I have that might or might not be George is that he was born about 1833 and he died 19 Nov 1847 in Birmingham, England. Somewhere in this pile of genealogy, I have something I printed out about it.
Dottie

I don't have a list of Eliza's children. I can offer you a copy of my Clift genealogy report that begins with Eliza's gg-grandfather. If you are trying to use Glenn Clift's book, our cousin made lots of mistakes. He linked some grandchildren directly to Benjamin Clift. They were orphaned and living with the grandparents. He linked Benjamin to the Maryland Clift's who were paupers--while Benjamin arrived in KY with 17 slaves. He then linked them to the Massachusetts
Clift's. They were three separate families. Long story short, I will mail you a copy of my report if you will email me your address.
Hi,

My name is Sean Clift. I am 34 years old and live in Brisbane. My Grandfather was Ernie Clift (From Sydney) who I'm sure either his father or Grandfather was Joshua Clift. I know my Grandfather had traced his family to Camebridge Mildon Hall. My father Ken actually visited there a few years ago. Joshua is certainly a family name for us. My cousin has a young boy call Joshua and My father is very keen for me to name my son (If I have one) Joshua also. Ruth is also a family name as my sister is Fiona Ruth. There are a lot of things in common so I would love to hear from you...

Wilson H Craig was my grandfather and I would like to be able to know who his parents were. He was born in 1893 either in Michigan or Canada depending on which Census you read. I think he was born in Michigan. He and Josephine moved to Battle Creek, Michigan where he lived until his death in 1964. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

This article appeared in the May 26, 1916 issue of the newspaper in Lafayette, Colorado:

"Josephine Clift and Wilson H. Craig were married at the home of the brides mother, Mrs. Anna Clift, Tuesday afternoon. Dr. Asa Z. Hall performed the ceremony, and Mrs. and Mrs. Wm. Nace stood up with them. Mr. Craig is working in a tungsten mine at Eagle Rock, just below Boulder Falls. One year ago this month the bride was one of the graduates from our high school. Mr. and Mrs. Craig have our most hearty congratulations."

I am not related.

He had 2 children with his first wife Mary (maiden name unknown to me), Mary Louise & Louis or Lewis. I think Uncle Lewis had kids, but not sure.

I am the only child of Randall Anson, who is one of Clarence's grandsons. Randall is one of Mary Louise's 4 sons. She passed in 1996 or 1997, in Springfield, MO.

Where did the elder Clarence die in 1933? Was it in prison/jail? How did he pass? How did Mary Alice Robinson pass in 1904?

JAMES DeVANE SMITH FAMILY

I am researching the family of my great grandfather, JAMES DeVANE SMITH. Specifically, I am seeking information regarding ELIZABETH ELLIS, his mother. She was b. about 1833 in Lincoln Co., TN. She married a man named SMITH in Lincoln Co., TN about 1850. They had a son named JAMES DeVANE SMITH b. 16 Aug 1853 in Lincoln Co., TN and d. 15 Jul 1910 in Fairview, Grayson Co.,TX. ELIZABETH ELLIS is named as his mother on his death certificate. In his obituary, it says that” he came to Texas with his mother when a boy”.

I have found an ELIZABETH ELLIS who married STEPHEN CLIFT SMITH 24 Oct 1849, in Lincoln Co., TN according to the Tennessee State Marriage Index. This family traveled to Ellis Co., TX abt 1856 with Stephen’s parents, LEE SMITH and ELIZABETH CLIFT SMITH. Elizabeth Clift Smith d. there about 1857. Lee Smith d. there in Mar of 1860 according to the Ellis Co. Mortality Schedule of 1860. I found information that STEPHEN CLIFT SMITH d. in Ellis Co., TX in 1863. I also have found information that ELIZABETH ELLIS SMITH returned to Lincoln Co., TN by 1867. I found information that she married EZEKIEL NORRIS CRAWFORD 17 Dec 1867, in Lincoln Co., TN. They can be found in 1880 and 1900 US census. By 1900, they had moved from Lincoln Co. TN to Green Hazel, Madison Co., AL. EZEKIEL NORRIS CRAWFORD d. in Green Hazel, Madison Co., AL in 1906 and is buried in Concord Cemetery there. Elizabeth d. there in 1908 and is also buried in Concord Cemetery.

I have a picture of ELIZABETH ELLIS taken in Denison, Grayson Co., TX. She appears to be abt 35-40 years old in the picture. I know that JAMES DeVANE SMITH lived in Grayson Co., TX from about 1882 until his death in 1910.

Any information regarding this family and these individuals would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I'm Allen Clift. Most of my father's line came from Virginia also. My 3G Grandfather, Thornton Clift was born in 1794 in Caroline City, , Virginia. He married Jemima Booton 1802-1884 on 13 Oct 1841 in Madison, , Virginia. His Father was William Clift, b & d dates and locations unknown. I have no information on Williams Spouse. Looking at Thorntons birth year, it seems possible we have a match with William. I think the court record you have for young William Clift would exclude this match and it would make William over 75 at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. I Dont know if this helps you or not, but I thought it would be worth a try.

BUT now the correct address is aquila72@bigpond.com.
My interest is Samuel Clift, born c1793/93, father William, and he said he came from Oldbury (Warwick,Worcester,Shrop, Stafford?) when he was convicted at the Northampton Assizes in 1818 and sent to the Colony. He later settled in the Maitland (NSW) and Liverpool Plains (Breeza)NSW areas and had a large family.
I have a lot of info re his life and times in Australia but am anxious to trace his origins in England, if anyone can help. Thanks,
AEnone.
