Clingman/Klingman

I am trying to contact any direct male descendants of John Michael Clingman, Jacob Clingman, Peter Clingman or George Clingman all of whom were in PA in the mid 1700's.

I also am trying to contact direct male descendants of Alexander Clingman who was in Rowan Co., NC by 1754 and had sons George, Peter, Henry, Michael and Jacob Clingman.

I especially need current email addresses for Vern L. Klingman, Warren Clingman, Joe P. Clingman and William F. Clingman. I believe the last two people live in or near Winston Salem, NC.

Please keep in mind, especially in the early generations, many spellings of the Clingman name were used interchangeably, as were the "C" and "K".

Um hi, I am Megan Dawn Clingaman, born and raised in Kokomo Indian, USA... I am trying to look up my family history; Can any body help? I am also looking for my family history of my real dad's side aka Shaffer. I only know few Clingamans such as my uncle Glen Clingaman, my grandma Karen Clingaman, my mom Christy Clingama, now Christy Shaffer. I really want to know my history, so please help.

I am looking for information on the above family found in the 1850 census in this area. Their children listed are: W., Susan, Solomon, Blettia (sp?), Anna, Rebecca, James and Elizabeth. I believe that their daughter Susan married William Apple in 1851 in Seneca County. Can anyone give me any information on this family? I have found the following alternate spellings; Clingamna, Clingamon, Clingerman, Clingman, Klingaman, Klingeman, Klingerman, Klingman and even Klinkan. Thank you, Kayanne

Hi I dont know if this is your family or not. There is an old cemetery down the road from me called Hackberry Cem. in Enid OK and it has a John Klingaman B:310-24-1835 D:7-27-1903 it says on his stone Civil War. If this is part of your family and you want a picture of the stone I will see what i can do. Jean

I am finding the spelling of this name has been very butchered up in the census records. I think I may have found George Clingaman's parents/family in the 1850 Chester Co., PA census, but it is listed as Clingamon. George's father may have been Daniel Clingaman b. abt. 1796. If you haven't already, check various spellings replacing C with K, a with e -- that kind of thing. You have given me another one to check - a to i -- didn't think of that one!

In my records I have a D. Clingaman son of Danial Klingaman
of Harleton, Union Co, PA.Danial was the son of Peter
Klingaman b. 23 Dec. 1762. His wife was Margaret. Resided
in Reading, Berks Co, PA. in 1789 when a child was baptised.
Peters children were;
Jacob---------May, 1786
Madalena------Nov, 1787
Peter---------May, 1789
George--------Sep. 1790
John----------Mar, 1792
Danial--------Jan, 1794
Michael-------Aug, 1797
Samuel--------July, 1798
Elizabeth-----July, 1800

I have copies of letters stasting that in PA the original name
was Klingaman. Then in PA the "a" was left out making it Klingman.
Then a Samuel came to Lake Co., Illinois and found some Clingman
families so he changed the "K" to "C". So the relatives in PA spelled
their name Klingman and the ones in the west were Clingman.

John Michael, eldest son of Jorg Phillip Klingman and half-brother of Peter b. 1752, spelled his name with a C too, he moved to Ohio. I have, I think, pretty good evidence that Jorg Phillip, whose name is listed on the passenger list of the ship Phoenix in 1743, as Klinkan, is the father of Peter and John Michael. He lists the names of his 8 children in his will. I am a descendant of Peter's son Daniel. I love the sources that use the soundex, then you get all spellings!

I am researching a John Clingerman b. 8 Dec. 1799, married Elizabeth Barnes in Bellmont Co. Ohio.
It is believed that he originally came from Pa. I have found a George Clingermin in Bedford Co. 1790 Census, but I can't find any other leads.
