Starling T. Cloer from Murray County, GA

My grandfather was Starling Cloer (wife Stella L. Ballew). His father was Dawson Cloer and mother was Josephine(?). Brothers and sisters are Dawson, Marion, Florida, Eveline and Lottie. I have spent a good part of the day trying to connect him to several different Cloer's; however, every generation seemed to name their offspring Dawson or Marion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Raleigh (or Rawleigh) Latimer Cloer, born around 1890-1900 in either Rabun County, GA or Towns County, GA. He served in WWI attaining the rank of Corporal. He married Minnie Campbell (1896-1991) of Easley, SC. They had three children: Annie Cloer Shipman, Daniel Webster Cloer, and Thomas Cloer, all now deceased. R.L. Cloer died in 1953 in Easley, SC.

I now live in an area just north of the GA line where there are many people with the last name Cloer. (The first time in my life when I or my immediate family were not the only Cloers in the area!) As my grandfather died many years before I was born, and my father has also passed away, I would like to find out about his relatives in this area. Anyone having any information regarding R.L. Cloer please contact me at: nlne5@aol.com

Cloer Family Tree

Please visit my sister's and mine genealogy tree which includes Cloers of TN, GA, and NC. Our's were in TN at the time of our births, but before that lived in GA and NC. Esp. since Bradley and Polk counties of TN are so close to Ga and NC borders. Please let us know if you find any one familiar. My grandmother was Rosa Lee Cloer Fisher. She is buried at Boanerges Cemetery which is right before Consaugua, TN, and then Tennga, GA. Many of the Cloers in our family came from around there and from Old Fort, TN which is where Boanerges Cemetery is. She married George Thomas Fisher. I just came from his funeral last week. He was 90 years old, and is now buried at Antioch Church outside of Benton, TN at the base of the mountains.

The website is:
<http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fritzzy/>

If you find any Cloers or any other surnames there, please contact myself at
<raymond@desoto.net>
or my sister, Karen, at
<fritzzy@earthlink.net>

Good luck

Bernice Raymond

Surnames: Fisher, Smith, Cloer, Hunt, Callahan, Vineyard, and many more.

Macon County NC & Towns County GA

Shirley

Try to locate a copy of vol.1 of "Macon County Heritage" and check the bio of Elijah B. Cloer and Sarah Howard. They had 12 children including a William Riley Cloer, b.1830 d.1913. This William Riley married Margaret Moore in 1859. It states that they moved to Towns County in the late 1800s. There is no William Riley Jr. amongst their children....in fact a William Hannibal Cloer is mentioned as a son. I'm sure you'll eventually find a connection to this line however!

Parts of this family settled in the Poplar Cove area of Cartoogechaye in Macon County NC. That's the same area my ancestors were from. I have lots of info on this area - census films, newspapers, etc. so I'll keep looking for mentions of your William Riley.
Does any one have the above names in their family trees. I am stuck with finding out who the parents of William Riley Clure are because I was told the name was then spelled Cloer. And I believe they may have been from NC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cloer/Clure surname GA, NC

My grandparents are William Riley Clure (died 1950) and Oria Texanna Plott (died 1961), burried in Sugar Hill, GA. Grave marked by Clure only. I believe William Riley Clure's Father was a Cloer. I have been told the name was changed due to spelling error. I believe William Riley's father was named William Lish Clure/Cloer. I understand the Clure/Cloer family spent a lot of time in the Young Harris, GA area, which is very close to the North Carolina state line.
If any one has any connection in their tree, I would appreciate any information you could share.
CLOER Mailing List

I just wanted to encourage anyone posting to this Message Board to subscribe to the CLOER-L mailing list. All messages posted to the board are gatewayed directly to the mailing list.

HOWEVER, if you are not a subscriber to the list, they get bounced since all postings must come from current subscribers. This way, you don't have to always check the board -- the posted messages (if coming from subscribers) will be delivered to your e-mail.

Let's make the most of what RootsWeb has offered us by being more efficient - subscribe to the mailing list and even more people will be reached with your messages. People on Mailing lists don't always check the Message Boards, and vice versa.

To subscribe, send a message to:
CLOER-L-request@rootsweb.com
with the word:

subscribe
(in the BODY of the message - not the Subject line)

You will receive a welcome message and may then post messages directly to the list at:

CLOER-L@rootsweb.com

or this message board, and your message will be sent to the list.

He is buried in Libety Cemetery in Polk Co., TN The Inscription reads as follows: Cloer, Hoyt - September 16, 1913 / October 24, 1913, son of J. F. L.E. Cloer. I believe the J. F. is my GG grandfather but who knows L. E.? My records show his wife was named Patience Lomax. Can anyone help me with this?

CLOER ANCESTRY ORIGINS

MY GREAT AUNT HAS GONE ALL OVER THE US TRYING TO FIND THE ORIGINS OF THE CLOER FAMILY. IT SEEMS THAT THEY STARTED OUT IN GERMANY. THEY CAME OVER ON A SHIP THAT THEY CHARTERED. THE SHIPS CAPTIAN MADE A STOP IN LONDON AND SQUANDERED THE PASSENGERS MONEY AND DIDN'T GET PROVISIONS. MAKING A LONG STORY SHORT THEY ENDED UP IN VIRGINIA AS ENDENTURED SLAVES. THEY THEN HAD TO BUY THEIR FREEDOM. FROM THERE THEY EITHER SETTELED IN VIRGINIA OR SPLIT UP AND WENT TO GEORGIA, FLORIDA, ETC. TRY CHECKING IN VIRGINIA . MICHAEL CLOER IS ONE OF THE FIRST CLOERS TO PURCHASE HIS FREEDOM, BUT THERE WERE OTHER CLOERS THAT CAME OVER AT THE SAME TIME.
