I think this is my father. Yes he was born in 1902. I had lost this site until now. I am not sure but had heard that he was in a fight and set a man on fire.. NOt sure how true this is because everything I have heard about his life has been made up stories. I heard that he was of Indian decent.I have recently found out that this was also untrue. Heard that he was born on reservation, also untrue. Wasn not expecting any info on him at all so this is a BIG surprise. JAck Jr has recently passed away. I had one visit with him before he died and didn't get much info on our father. Jack Sr died in a car accident in 1953 in La.

a distant cousin checking in: I just returned from a Cloniger reunion in Gastonia, NC: descendents of Michael Buena Vista Cloniger and Lula Edna Bost

Note for your research: the same family uses 2 spellings of the surname - Cloninger and Cloniger - and way back, in Germany (1600's), it was spelled Klonninger.

My greatgrandfather, Michael Buena Vista Cloniger, was the son of
Jacob Cornelius Cloninger and Mjissouri Arminta Summey

Jacob Cornelius Cloninger (born 17 Jan 1845, died June 12 1891) was a son of Jonas Cloninger and Sallie Kiser
I have identified 6 of the 8 children I understand to have been born of Jonas and Sallie - I did not know of your grandmother Barbara - do you have birth or death dates for her?

the children of Jonas and Sallie that I know of:
Sarah - married L.A. Thornburg
Emanuel - married Elizabeth (Betsy) Shrum
Jacob Cornelius - married Missouri Arminta Summey
Katie - married Monroe Clemmer
George - married Frances Long
Andrew (Little Andy) - married Julia Jones

Jonas' father David Cloninger (born 3 Sept 1789, died 1873) and Jonas' mother Susanna Senter (spelled Centre on marriage bond) were married 6 Feb 1808 had 7 children together (that I know of). After Susanna died, David married Katie Huffstetler and they had 3 children together.

Several of these folks are buried in a Cloniger family graveyard off Highway 321 in Dallas, NC

Judy

The Our Kin book is available on Heritage Quest. I have a copy in pdf file that can be written on CD. There is much to be found on the Cloningers at www.tngenweb.org/monroe. You'll definately want to look into the St. Paul's Lutheran church records on that site. There is no doubt that the Cloninger's were a part of the Clemmer migration that entered the Monroe Co area with the Lutheran migration out of Mecklenburg/Lincoln/Gaston Co area's of North Carolina.
I'm sorry I couldn't find that marriage for you but I looked in every county in the area and it wasn't to be found.

Shirley, I had most of the info you sent, but not the John
Louis dying in 1935FL. That could be John L. that I've been
looking for his death in TN. But he could have lived with
Lewis & Margaret by then.Wish it had the month of death.
Aunt Jean and I were very close, she died of cancer, so
young. I was with her at the end.
I think we should exchange email addresses as there are some
things better not posted here. I do like to share with others, so have posted some here.
My dau. has alot of pictures of the family, but has had foot
surgery and hasn't been able to find them for me. I was
hoping she might have some info that would help.
I spent alot of time in Decatur,TN.,where the Cloningers
had a farm and spent summers up there.
I think you can access my email address from here. I tried
to find yours, but it wasn't accessible. So, email me first, then you won't have to post it here.
Hopefully we can find Nancy & John's death dates.
Judy

By using Social Security Death Benefit Index and the Florida Death records I had these corrected dates. Do you have this on Jacob Benjamin:

World War 1 Draft Registration
Name: Jacob Benjamin Cloninger
Age: 25
Born: Jan 14 1892 Englewood Tenn USA
Occupation: Metal Work for Lookout Roofing Co. I'm in San Diego CA (but my own father was born in Englewood (then Tellico Junction) TN so I do have TN roots. He and parents & family left TN in 1904 and came to CA.

Have any idea where this supposed James S. Cloninger (with son Raymond) did fit in?

Shirley

Thank you for answering my query. I, too, at first thought
James could be the son of John L. & Nancy, but changed my mind. I never heard of a son named Fred, but Nancy says she
had 3 children born and only 2 alive in the 1900 census.
Nancy is alive in the 1900 census and John L. marries again
in 1905. So Nancy must have died between 1900 and 1905. I
think that is Harriett (Dixon) in the 1920 census. I have seen the Cloninger spelled worse than that!!
Louis Oscar,b:20Feb1890,Englewood,TN.,d:12Oct1958,Homestead
Dade,FL. is the line I'm researching. I have corresponded with Jean and gave her some misinformation. I sent her my
corrections, but haven't heard from her. I had Lewis's
wife Margaret E.Blizzard's death date wrong. I had the
date they probated her will. She died 12Apr1972,Homestead,
Dade,FL. She was very dear to me. Also, I had their son,
Ronald Eckman's death date wrong, it is 2Jun1992. I attended
these funerals, but somehow, had the dates confused.
Lewis's brother Jacob Benjamin, d:31Mar1936,Chatanooga,TN.
He & Virginia had no children.
Do you live in TN? I have had someone look for marriages
dates for me, but they couldn't find the one for John L.
& Nancy. They found his & Harriett's and alot of other
Cloninger's. I live in FL.
Also willing to share what I have on John L. and his
family.
Judy
Hello, I am trying to trace my Pace ancestors from Harlan KY. Wasn't your Martha Cloninger Fee also the wife of Charley Pace, s/o John & Joicy Shackelford Pace? I am a decendant of one of Charley Pace's brothers and I can't seem to find Charley and Martha after 1910 and hoped you might be able to help. I did find Cain? and Patten Fee in Harlan Ky. in 1930. They would be half brothers to Alex Pace, the son of Charley and Martha Cloninger Fee Pace. Perhaps Martha's grandson might know where and when Charley,Martha and Alex Pace moved, and/or died, I would appreciate any help and thank you for your time.
Jim

Hello All, My GGGrandmother is Martha Cloninger Fee brother to Grant Cloninger/ children of Thomas and Maranda Cloninger/son of Daniel Cloninger. I just found Daniel and family in 1870 Knox Co., Tn. I thought he was dead by then so I now must revise my history.
I talked to Cam Fee Jr(Martha Cloninger Fee's grandson) and he says he remembers Sherman Cloninger and that he never had a home but just lived where he could and that he always carried a sack over his back. He drowned in a creek. Would love to hear from you.

Daniel did have a brother Michael that moved from NC to TN around 1845, but that is all I have on him. Seems the Cloningers and Cunninghams intermarried. Where did you find this story from? Please let me know any info you have.

Is this Joseph son of Daniel Cloninger/Tn? I descend from Daniel's son Thomas. I just found Daniel and family in 1870 census. I thought he had died before then. Will share info.

Hi David,

I am the David Cloninger that Phyllis is looking for and have tried to answer her but not gotten anything back from her. It has been 6 years since she posted this. I suffered a stroke in April 2000 and since then have started trying to information about family. I was raised in Web and your mother is correct. Danny's father was David B. Cloninger, Sr. and I'm his oldest son, David B. Cloninger, Jr.

I would love to e-mail information concerning family since you still have family living in Webb Sumner area.

Thank you,

David

Hi David,

I would be delighted to speak with you via email! That would be wonderful! My email is beckymo@orcon.net.nz. Look forward to hearing from you.

As for Addie's surname, I have also seen it spelled 2 different ways. Koony was actually Ida's twin sister who died as a child. My granny's name was Bessie Idellia, but people just called her Ida. May wasn't part of her name.

I do look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks!
