POW/MIA Korean War

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Kent County, Rhode Island as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: ARCHIE JAMES CLOSSON
Born: October 23, 1928
Date of loss: July 12, 1950 POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Hi Robin,

Anytime you come to SLC for research, you are welcome to stay at my place. We are very close to public transportation which takes you almost "door-to-door" from my place to the library downtown. I normally go to the library on Fridays and Saturdays from open to close, (8a - 9p Tuesday - Saturday). I would love to meet you.

Is Clossens of PA the name of the book you are referring to? Do you have the exact name? I'd like to see if I can find it.

Do you happen to have Robert Clossen's wife's name? They lived in Bedford, PA, and maybe Cumberland, MD, I'm not sure. I found George and LaAnna's final resting place at Rosehill Cemetery, but somebody didn't write down the exact burial plot where they were laid to rest. A friend of mine has reported that to the Cumberland Historical Society, so I'm hoping a bunch of volunteers will get together some afternoon, and hunt down the gravestones. There are THOUSANDS of graves there! Keep in touch with me at pje6431@hotmail.com. TTYL, Paula

Hi Robin,

We chatted a bit back in 2004:

http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/CLOSSON/2004-01/107...

My Clausons were living in Bedford County, later Somerset County, then they moved to Cumberland, MD, down the road from Bedford. I just visited the area with John Getz and photographed their farm near Cumberland. They were buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, but due to the negligence of the Clerk at Rose Hill, their gravesite wasn't recorded, so I couldn't locate their graves. John and Joanne are talking with the Cumberland Historical Society to see if the graves can be located. At any rate, we are talking about the same family. Please keep in touch with me and maybe we can find some lost ancestors. pje6431@hotmail.com Paula Edens

Here is an excerpt from Bob's original post:

"My grandfather wrote a genealogy on the Josiah CLOSSON family of New England. While this is my interest and area of expertise, he included a section on the Pennsylvania Branch of the CLOSSON Family (Bucks County). It is mainly compiled from correspondance with Dr. James Harwood CLOSSON Jr in 1916."

I don't know who Bob's grandfather was but I have searched everywhere for information about Dr. James Harwood Closson, Jr. He was a chiropracter. Maybe we should try and find DESCENDENTS of his and maybe they have a copy of the book....?
I will keep you posted if I find anything.

Robin C.

Hi,
I found your post. I do beleive we are related. I have a myfamily.com site where a cousin George Lemon left our family history.
I have several names here and didn't do that intentionally, but I am trying to get it straight... I have decided to try to use the Aunt Rena Bell name as that is MY MOTHER'S name. It is also a lot of the reason I did the myfamily site for the rest of our friends and family....cousins are left in Kentucky. I can invite you to the family site and if you would like I can send you an e-mail to get there. Send you request and tell me who you are to snowecap@AOL.COM.

Make sure you write Closson in the SUBJECT line so I know to open it.

Thanks.
Marjorie (Margie) L.
I am not sure if I responded to you or not. You asked about our cousin (5th or so) George Lemon. I know he lives in Texas. He is or was on our myfamily site. You are named Taylor? My half sister married a Robert Taylor. Her name was Bille Bea Closson, Taylor. They are both deceased by murder in Oregon in the 1970's. Their son is named Nelson (goes by Rick) Vessie Taylor and he lives in Bothell, Washington. He has 2 other sisters, who live in Oregon last I heard. One named Janet and the other named Bobbie. Both are married to men with first names of Keith. Which is also the name of one of our two half brothers. Both brothers are Ronnie and Keith Closson who live in Anacortes, WA and Burlington, WA. And then I have my sister Loraine C. Closson who lives in Spokane, WA. I am not sure if you were able to get a response from anyone or not. Sorry it is so late to get back to you. I have 2 e-mails I have gone by here. The other is MargieB13.

Hello. My husband's family are also Minnesota Clossons living in Washington. Here is my mother in law's direct line
Leola May Closson 1935-2009 b. in Idaho
Leo Russel Closson 1905-1956 b. in Idaho
Florelo Closson 1859-1944 b.in Iowa
Albert Closson 1824-1910 b. in NY
Caleb Closson 1800-1884 b. in Canada
John Closson 1767-1849 b. in NY
Caleb Closson 1736-1775 b. in RI
Ichabod Closson 1713-1791 b. in Massachusetts
Caleb Closson 1688-after 1718 b. in RI
Josiah Closson 1655-1698 b. in RI

The Caleb Closson b. in Canada, moved his family to Minnesota. Albert Closson died in Minnesota, some of his children came to Idaho, others stayed in MN. Still others went to Iowa. The US government was giving away land in the west. Our Closson's that went to Canada were given land there if they fought the Revolution on the British side. Some did. They came back to the USA after it was safe to come back. Many families got divided at that time in history, and again in the civil war. I would love to exchange information with you.
Margaret

My Mother's notes said our Closson group came from Blair County PA. The oldest trace is a John Closson born in 1783 who married Jane Adams. They had children in VA, PA and Ohio. John died in Jefferson Co. Ohio in about 1821. They had eight children. Does any of this fit into your tree ?
My uncle born about 1910 was George Leland Closson.
Thanks, Don

Norma,

Yes, I do have some information for David F. Closson and his ancestors. Briefly I have his name as Captain David Freeman Closson b. 29 Oct 1853 Blue Hill, Hancock County, Maine. His parents were George Washington Closson and Louisa N. Chatto who it is said was George's 1st cousin. George's parents were Captain John Closson and Zeruah Chatto. I have David's marriage to Cora Moseley 3 Jul 1890. I do not have his marriage to Hannah Duffy. I do not have information about David's children. Some time ago my interest was in David's uncle, Zenas Closson, brother of George Washington Closson. I was trying to figure out who Zenas' parents were. Now I am getting interested in David!!! He would be my 5th cousin 3 times removed.

Ann
With the aide of many great researchersinto the ancestry of the Closson families, I have put the CD from Don Sellers on site on www.rootsweb.com along with my tree on http://magennisclan.familytreeguide.com. 951 persons strong. thank you all for this work of love and to Don sellers for putting it all together so understandably. I prefer this familiy search program than family tree but it all gets the families together. ENJOY kolohamorris@aol.com

Opps, I mean Isaac Clossen might be the son of John and Jane (Adams) Closson which would make him Samuel Closson's brother. My Issac Clossen lived in Ashland, Ohio with his mom, Jane Closson after his dad (John) passed away. I have Isaac born about 1811.

Donna,

Did you ever get additional information on your Isaac Closson? I believe he might have been a brother of my gg grandpa, Abner Closson whose parents were Samuel and Mary (Long) Closson. Samuel's mom and dad were John and Jane (Adams) Closson aka Clossen. What year was Isaac born?
