Hi Kristy
I'm just getting started with this search, but I know from my Mom's research that Henry Clow, b 2/9/1782 In Halfmoon, Saratoga CO, NY was one of 3 sons( John, James and Henry) of James Clow and Elizabeth (?). He also had 2 sisters: Ann and Margaret. The family is still in the same place for the 1800 census. I'm trying to find out where James Clow came from. Family believes Scotland.

Gail

I'd love to hear more about the Clow's as well though, since all I know is that Rebecca was born sometime around 1814 (so your date looks close enough), married Samuel, and had parents who were born in Germany.

I have a few pictures of the daugthers, one with a baby on ones lap. A picture of Jesse with 2 daughters. Why did they divorce? How could a single mother of so many children afford to buy a house? Do you know anything about an indian connection? My grandmother (Cora's daughter) had always said she was 1/32 indian, but I never asked where that came from. I have a cousin from this line that lives in the Kansas City, MO area. I believe she was born in AZ, but moved there after marrying. Nice to be able to talk about this stuff. I wish I had been more interested when my grandmother was still living.

I believe you might be from the same line as myself. I also heard stories of the tribe in Canada.

Barbara's brother, Daniel Fenwick Clow, was my great grandfather. It appears at one point that Hilda and Joseph Foisey went to Claremont, where a couple of Barbara's brothers eventually settled, although it looks like Barbara eventually ended up in Massachusetts.

There are lots of Clows in what is considered the "Connecticut River Valley" area of VT and NH -- all along the CT river in the area of Claremont, Charlestown, Cornish NH and Windsor, VT. That's where I'm from and even though I've been in NY for 20 years, I still consider it my home. :)

Stella May Clow is Hilda's cousin if I have my tree right, and my dad said her daughter would probably be able to tell me some things about the family. Is there anything particular you'd like to know if I end up calling her?
Hi, I've found this thread and I was hoping to add to and receive via it. I am writing a book based around my ancestor William Clow and his brother Henry Clow, and I was hoping to get the dates of birth for Henry's children. If you are wanting information about the descendants of William Clow UE, I have the lot from a complete genealogy done by Gladys Clow in the 1970's so nothing since then for most of the lines. Cheers, H. Bruce Clow

I'm not sure that Cora did go with Jesse. When Mary Ellen divorced him she was given custody of the minor children but both William and Cora were over 18 years of age. According to my dad, William remained close to Jesse but the other children stuck with Mary Ellen. I know that eventually the entire family came to Kansas City Mo. and eventually Mary Ellen bought a house in Kansas City Ks. In 1898 I found Cora living at 1329 Cherry, Kansas City Mo with Anna E. Crayne, but Jesse was living at 1208 Locust. In 1904 Mary Ellen, Cora, Etta May, Flora Dell, and Robert J. were living at 1716 Belleview St in KC Mo. My grandmother, Luella, was married to Ernest Banks by then and living elsewhere. Jesse was living at 307 East 11th. As far as I know Jesse never lived in Kansas. He remarried and lived in KC Mo until his death.

William's brother, Edwin Seymour is my great great grandfather. I'd love to go further back in the family tree but I'm stuck at Henry J. I'm hoping you've found more information by now that you could share withme. Thanks!
Kristy

Jo-anne; that is really sad. As when my father was alive he could have answered those questions for you.
I was there when Grandad Clow passed on in 1967. But my father had this odd way of protecting us by keeping completely out of the loop.
Some of the brothers went to PEI to bury Granddad and Kenny and Stanley are still Alive. You could contact them to finish part of the search.
Great Aunt Georgina spent a lot of money in the 60s researching our past and her relate may have some of the info.
I know my Dad acquired the family coat of arms, and the tarten for our family name from Scotland where our family castle apparently is.
Dad went to England and visited some relatives there but I wasn't privy as usual to most of the family matters. Dad was way too good at keeping things to himself.

Donna
I have a photograph you may be intrested in. It has a hand writen note on it labeling it as the Hopfield family. I am guessing that it is John and Sarah Hopfield and several of their children. It also contains my gggrandmother Sarah Saddington whom I believe joined their family when she was about 5 years old living with them and moving to Oregon with them untill she married at age 16 in 1877. She is shown as Sara Hopfield age 9 in the 1870 census in Wisconsin. contact me if you would like a scan of the image. I also have a portrait labeled Charles Clow and brother. I would guess at ages 4-6
graydon miller
joangrady@comcast.net

Actually the Clows came to the states in the 1700's from Scotland. I don't know where they landed but when the American Revolution broke out some stayed in the states, some went to Nova Scotia, and others went to England. You are right though some of those Clows from England did com back to Canada and them a few back to the states. My uncle and I have both been working on this. I did confirm that Clow used to be spelled Clough on some of the family names. I also found a lot of Clow names in the Eninburgh Scotland Castle.

I have no information regarding Truman Vinson. The main reason I posted, years ago, was to share a family photo of the Clow family. Eva was my grandmothers sister. There were many children in the family and they all played musical instruments and traveled in a covered wagon to different citys to perform. My grandmother told me it took them three days to get to Salem, Oregon which was less then 50 miles away. Some of the kids were born in Forest Grove, Oregon. Their father, my great grandfather, played the trumpet and was also a barber. (marbra503@aol.com)

According to compiled data, he was one of 7 children born to James CLOE/CLOW and Sarah TRIPLETT. That James CLOE/CLOW was the son of James CLOE/CLOW and Elizabeth (STB - BRIDWELL). That James was the son of James CLOE/CLOW and Mary (STB - BURNS). That James CLOE/CLOW was born in Scotland about 1720. A birth record for a James CLOW has been located in the Old Parish Records. It states James was born on 29 June and christened on 2 July 1721 in Balhaldie, Scotland. The town no longer exists.

This is the line I have been tracking since the 1950's.
