I am looking for any information on my GG Grandpa William D. Cluny b. c. 1828 Ireland (probably Northern Ireland, protestant) and d. 1902 Lincoln County, Missouri. I do not have any information on parents or siblings of William, or where exactly in Ireland he came from. I do know that he immigrated to the U.S.A. about 1849, coming through Canada down into Michigan. He appears on the 1850 Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan census listed as William D. Clooney living in a boarding house. William married Margaret (possibly Mary Margaret) McPherson. McPherson was the name of her first husband. She was born in Scotland in 1820 and immigrated with her first husband to Canada, living there for some amount of years before he died. They supposedly had full-grown children back in Scotland. I'm not sure if she and William Cluny married in Canada or the U.S. I've not had any luck in finding a marriage record on them. They married about 1861/62, as their son Daniel Cluny was born in June 1863 in Michigan. I have not found either of them in the 1860 U.S. census, and as I said, am not sure if they were even married by then. They appear in the 1870 Lincoln County, Missouri census, and for some reason Margaret's name is listed as Bridget, but my G Grandpa Daniel is listed with them as 6 years old (born in Michigan), so I know it is them. They appear on the 1880 Lincoln Co., MO census. Margaret died in 1886. William remarried to Mrs. Ellen Kennedy in 1891 in Lincoln County, MO. They appear on the 1900 Lincoln Co., MO census. William died in 1902 and was buried in the Highland Prairie Cemetery in Lincoln County. Does anyone know anything about my William? Cluny is the way the last name is spelled in the family bible and all of the kids, grandkids, etc. spelled it that way. This origina of the name comes out of Scotland and before that France, but as I've already stated William has been listed under other spellings as well. Any help would be appreciated. Also any tips on researching this name in Ireland would be appreciated.
