Elizabeth Ann was my great-grandmother. According to my grandmother's stories, she and Robert knew each other in Ireland but did not marry until they both were in Pittsburgh. On the back of a photograph, my grandmother wrote that Elizabeth Ann Alderdice was bor April 4, 1866 and married Robert Clydesdale in November 1900. Elizabeth's father, Thomas Alexander Alderdice was 19 years old she was born. Her mother's name was Mary Jane Little Martin.

John Clydesdale born 1834 Old Monkland, the son of Thomas Clydesdale and Agnes Cullen. He married Marion Gillon, daughter of Robert Gillon and Janet Simpson. In 1861 she was a servant, living with her sister Elizabeth. John Clydesdale, an engine keeper, was a boarder. Marion married John Clydesdale on 14.2.1864 in Kilsyth Stirling. In 1871 they lived at Reid’s Land Old Monkland. In 1891 he was a colliery engine keeper at Scott’s Land Baillieston. In 1901 they lived at Church St Old Monkland. Marion died in 1922 and John on 21.1.1935

re. Matthew Clydesdale and Agnes Davidson in East Kilbride,
you may already know that at the time they married he was a ploughman at Long Calderwood Farm in East Kilbride ... and Long Calderwood farm was previously the birthplace of John Hunter, very famous surgeon - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hunter_(surgeon)
... I tried tracking the family down a few years ago (because I thought he was another Matthew Clydesdale), but I lose track of the family after 1861 - I can forward such info as I have to you if you're interested ... ref. the 5 children, the ones I have come across are John, Matthew, Janet, Alexander and Margaret - is that the same as your 5?

Dan, It looks like we are on the right track. I do not know however which Hugh you are asking about so here goes.

Although I don't have any concrete proof yet I believe my Grandfather Father Hugh's (My Great Grandfather's name was John.
My Uncle Hugh was my Mother's Sister Helen McLachlan Clydesdale Lowe and I am one of her sons. There is lotsmore but I'll let you digest this first. I believe Your Great Grandfather was My uncle Hugh's Brother making him My uncle also. Have I confused you enough for now. Please give me your E Mail address and we can communicate directly. Mr Grandfather is Daniel (the toronto police men) and if i'm correct he is your first cousin. I'm 29 years of age and presently reside in Fort Vermilion Alberta with my wife Jen. My Grand father now lives in Enismore Ontario and my parents Dan and Marita live close by in a town called Port Perry. Do you have any information as to any of aunts and uncles and thier children, and do you know the name of Hugh's father and wether or not he had any siblings?

My Grandfather Hugh Clydesdale married Annie McLachlan. Their Children were Mary, Violet, Annie, Rebecca, Hugh, Daniel, Helen(my Mother) and John who died at a young age.They are my Aunts and Uncles. My Uncle Daniel married Florence Davis and their Children are Stanley(Who is Dead)George, Ronnie, Daniel( was a toronto Poliecman) Jean and Joan who I believe were twins. Are you the one who was a Policeman? What age bracket are you in I am 75. I hope this is of some help, if I am correct you are my cousin. Where do you live?

Thank you for your reply. My Grandfather is Daniel Gordon Clydesdale, who I believe would be your first cousin (i think). He married Mryna Brown and they had 3 children , Daniel Ross, Tom and Rene, and I am son of Daniel Ross. So that makes me the 4th generation of Daniels. I currently reside in Fort Vermilion Alberta. Dan, What happened to our communication. I have tried to get you a number of times. I would guess that Jen has had the Baby and I hope Mother Baby and Father are doing well. I am in Mesa Az presently but will be leaving here on Fri. Mar.24, 2006. I tried you Cell phone also to no avail. I was also communicating with Dan's Brother George another Cousin of mine and I lost contact also. I begining to wonder if all the Clydesdales don't want to have anything to do with me??? Maybe its my DEODRANT???

Below is the information on Hugh Clydesdale b. 1866. The b. dates of the parents are suspicious. Perhaps it was a typo. I think I need to double check the 1881 British Census.

Please let me know if you make a connection. I am still trying to connect my Irish Clydesdales to Scotland. I know the connection is there, I just have yet to discover it.

I'm sorry, I don't have any information on the Hugh Clydesdale that m. Annie McLachlan on Nov. 11 1887. I do have two possibilities, however:

Hugh Clydesdale b. Feb 1, 1866, Central District, Glasgow
Hugh Clydesdale b. Jul 26, 1858, Calton, Glasgow

If either of these proves to be your Hugh, let me know as I have further information on the families.

My husband's great great grandmother was Mary Clydesdale from Co. Down, Ireland (b. abt 1837). Her father, James, was said to have been born in Scotland. In trying to discover more about him I have collected as much about the various Clydesdales as I can and have developed a rather large file. I hope to be able to fit as many pieces of the puzzle together as I can. If you are willing to share your line, perhaps we can help each other. Susie
