My Maternal Great Grandmother was La Anna Clymer. She told me once that She was a niece of George Clymer as well. I am also trying to connect the dots. My mother does not know much of the family history and I know that she has a sister Thelma. I would also like to find out more if possible. Have you been able to uncover more information?
Sandy

He lived in Berthoud, Co and sold autos and parts in a bldg also shared by a Doctor J. B. Clymer (relation not stated). There is a photo in the ad. It is a book of old ads that have been reprinted by Dover Publications: "Those Were the Days: Weird and Wacky Ads of Yesteryear. Good information for the family.

Supposedly, I'm somehow related to George Clymer through my father's side. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of information as far as surnames. Our family name is Martin, and my paternal grandparents lived in the Philadelphia area through much of the 1900s. Have always wondered what my connection is. I'm still researching on my end. Any info anyone might have would be appreciated.

In the book: Genealogy of the Roberdeau family: including a biography of General Daniel ... By Roberdeau Buchanan, page 103, Mr Buchanan states that William Clymer, son of Christopher (Of Bristol, England), brother to Richard, was buried April 26, 1740.

Can anyone tell me where he got that information? Does anyone know where this William is buried? Since he left money to Christ Church, Philadelphia one would think that he is buried there, but there is no record of him in their database.

Dear Daniel,
I have researched your family which is my family also. If you are descended from Andrew Baltus Clymer then we are distant cousins. Andrew Baltus Clymer was the son of John Clymer and John Clymer was the son of Baltus Clymer. The Story is complicated because Baltis Clymer was the son of Casper Kramer. So you ask how did the name change? I am assuming that since Baltis lived in the Colonial city of Philadelphia he ended up using an English sounding name. The only reason we know this is because when Casper Kramer's estate was settled all his children were listed including Baltis going by the name of Clymer! All the other children of Casper Kramer settled in Bucks county and were farmers while Baltis became a Carter in Phila. I would be happy to explain it in greater detail and you can e-mail me privatly and I'll give you my phone number! I also correspond with another long lost cousin who descends from Andrew as well! I have copies of the estate settlement and Baltis's will too.
Joann

Dear eredman3412 (Randy) I too have been doing research into the Clymers and you sound like you might be a person in the know. My family is from Pennsylvania and New Jersey and I have found conflicting information in various public Clymer trees. I am trying to trace my grandmother's great grandmother, Emma A. Clymer, who was born in 1837 and died in 1907. It seems that her father was Andrew Baltus Clymer (her mother was Lydia Buck) but I get stuck with Andrew's father, as I have found listings for Johannes Kramer Clymer and John Meredith Clymer. I have also found references for a Casper Clymer, in addition to George Clymer. Any help with this matter is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Daniel McBride

Alix, the last know male Clymers, John Howard, and Nathaniel Russell Sturgis have girls. There is a branch of Clymers who hail from the Philadelphia area in the Revolution and who frequently think they are descended from the Signer. There is no connection we know of between the two Clymer families. I do have a complete Clymer, the Signer, tree and would be more than willing to share data points on it with you.

Jim Alexander
Registrar-General
The Society of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Clymer

Hello my name is Randall Redman and I saw your posting on Ancestry.com requesting information on Clymer’s in Pennsylvania. My great grandparents were Solomon Clymer and Louisa Tapper (Daughter of John Tapper) I was wondering if you would not mind reading my email in the hope that maybe you may recognize some of the Clymer names below. If you do, maybe you can share some information and help shed some light on my family history. Below is just some of the information I have researched. (I will bring the line down to myself to show you as to where I fit in)

Solomon was born abt. 1810 and raised in Germantown or Bristol Township, Philadelphia. (Right on the border of Germantown) There he met and married my Great Grandmother Louisa Tapper at St. Michaels Evangelical Lutheran Church in Feb of 1828

Out of the children they had several lived to maturity and were named the following.

1. Ann Eliza Clymer born in Germantown in 1830
2. George W. Clymer born in Germantown in 1832 and marries Letitia Geddes
3. John Nicholson Clymer born in Germantown 1835 and marries Susannah Lippincott Morris
4. Charles G. Clymer born in Germantown and marries Mary Jane Davis

From George W Clymer is who I am a descendant of and he had 2 children

John Clymer
Leander Clymer born 1856 and marries Mary Ann McCullough

From Leander comes
Mary Clymer
Thomas Clymer
George W Clymer
Gertrude Clymer
Harriet Clymer
Andrew Clymer
Ida Mae Clymer
Wesley Clymer
William Clymer
Annie Clymer

Ida Mae Clymer is my Great Grandmother who married my Great Grandfather Harry R. Redman and they have
Harry R. Redman Jr.
Arthur Redman
Mary Redman

Harry R. Redman Jr. marries Elizabeth Jane Barr/ Wortman and they have
Harry R Redman III
John Lawrence Redman

Harry R. Redman III marries Elizabeth Mary Gorecki and from them comes me.

My family has always held the tradition that George W Clymer the “Signer” is directly related to my family. I have devoted ten years of my life to researching this and have much information on the Clymer’s but have been unable as of yet to prove any connection to George “The Signer” However, I have a copy of a portrait of George Clymer from a Direct Descendant and it is identical to both my father and my grandfather; so there has to be something there. Please feel free to write me at my personal email address at RandyRedman@logarpc.com or call me at my home; my number is 856-782-4950.
Dear Mr. Redman,

I have been told it is a fact that we are related to George Clymer in a most direct way. Although the tree is no where near complete on this site, I look forward to hearing from you to try to connect the dots if you will. All the answers are in our family Bible that is in the hands of a distant cousin. For this task I have asked my father for help. Also I have asked the DAR for assistance in this matter, for there is a great grandmother within in them, which may hold down the line very well for us Clymers. Happy Revolution!!!!
Thomas Climer (as it was spelled a generation before James) was married to a cherokee woman whos name remains a mystery but he may have been raised with those you had mentioned as his father died when he was dead and it is assumed that his wife died shortly after. George Jesse lived following the native traditions of his mother until he fell in love and married Pheobe Simpson. I have a photo of him in front of me and there is no denying his native ancestory. Leander Sharp Clymer who was Georges son was said to have a mighty temper and married Francis Allen Holstien, then later went on to merry Lovina Winner stauffer. He loved to write little ryhmes and poems. His best friend was a dog namedJap that looks to be some sort of setter cross. He had him well trained and would put his paws in the air and hold a pipe in his mouth. Leander always had a pipe.

Rat Ziehm,
I would love to see the information. Though I am a little confused by your comment about the tombstone of Eliza Jane Clemmer Mills. My Eliza Jane Clemmer was born 1817 in Preble County, Ohio the daughter of John Clemmer & Phoebe (Nevius) Clemmer. Eliza Jane Clemmer first married William Smith who died in 1845 and then she married second William Mills.

John Clemmer the father of Eliza 1786-1867 is the son of George Clemmer (1753)& Magdalena???

Thanks for your help, I am a descendant of Eliza Jane Clemmer and her first Husband William Hunter Smith through their daughter Phoebe whom I would say is named after Eliza's mother Phoebe Nevius.

Lukas

Lucas, Nice to see your name again. I see many people are equating the Clemmer family name (of York, PA and Preble Cty, Ohio) to the Clymer family, of the Declaration signer. It just is not so. I have excellent data tracing the Clemmers (Klemmers, and Klimmers) back to Switzerland in the 1500s. I have also found an article that states it is not true. I have photos of Eliza Jane Clemmer Mills' tombstone that spells her first marriage name as Clemmer. Nowhere did I see the name spelled Clymer. I do have an ancestor born in 1545 who was named Klymer. His son was also a Klymer, but then the name changed to Klimmer, Klemmer, and finally Clemmer. Let me know if you would like to see some of this material.

Rat Ziehm

Jim you are correct, John Meredith Clymer did die in action at Parkinson's Ferry trying to put down the whiskey rebellion. John M. Clymer was married at the time of his death (married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to a Mary if memory serves me correct and has children which are sourced and documented as well.
Lukas,
I am sorry but the John Meredith in your family line is not the same one as the Signer's son for his widow lived and died in Philadelphia County (Northern Liberties)Just North of the City of Philadelphia. I would be happy to provide you with the names of the known children as well as source material but none to my knowledge moved to Ohio.
Randy

I was wondering if anyone had any info. about the Climer line that had to change their name from Clymer to Climer because of a murder and a land dispute? My husband told me that his father had told him of a story where one of their ancestor's had murdered someone and had to give their land back to the Clymer family (in Tennessee) and change the spelling of their last name to Climer. My father in law also told him that they are related to George Clymer (one of the men who signed the Declaration of Independance). Not sure if all of this is indeed true, and was wondering if there was anyone on here who could point me in the right direction with sources, stories, etc.

Thanks so much!

Lukas, our records show that John Meridith Clymer was born about 1768, d. 18 Nov 1794 with the note kia. I am not sure the John you mention is the same one as the son of the signer. I cannot come up the rest of the names in your note.

Jim Alexander
Registrar-General
DSDI
www.dsdi1776.com

Dick Martin,
I have no idea if you will ever read this. Josephine was my aunt. My father was her brother, Robert Joseph Clymer. Our Clymer family comes from Zurich Swizerland. I am afraid that Aunt Jo was on a wild goose chase with George the signer.

Would love to hear from you,
Wilson Clymer
Green Valley, AZ.
