Hello. Looking for any information on Samuel J Coale (b:1809) and Margaret Ann Walmsley (b:1811). Married 2 Jul 1836 at Methodist Episcopal Church (Baltimore City Station), Baltimore County, Maryland. I cannot find any 'early' information on either one of my family members. Hi. This may seem strange but following the children leads to:

John/James Coale marrying Mary Polly Vipperman in 1867
(he used James in 1870 and 1880 Census)
They have two children:
Virginia Jennie M. born 1868
George W. born 1870

Then nothing after the 1880 Census

Followed suddenly in 1900 by a James Tanner (used many different dates until later 1910s) and Mary Vipperman (b.1848) with:
Virginia Jennie M. born 1868
George W. born 1870

I'm still trying to tie this together after drawing a blank for several decades. I would love to team up with another researcher to help prove or disprove this mysterious connection.

Grace Coale/Cole m. Christopher Wadsworth 1636

Looking back into this line: Grace Cole supposedly born Duxbury, Mass 1607 ( IMPOSSIBLE) m. Christopher Wadsworth in 1636 Duxbury.
I have been trying to pinpoint this Grace. Some say she wasn't even a Cole. There were other Coles in the Duxbury area in the mid 1600's- Daniel Cole, Job Cole and John Cole all brothers with sisters Rebecca and Eliza. No mention of Grace.
But assuming Grace was a Cole and born in England ,the IGI has a few possibilities:
Gratia Cole- ch Nov 24 1605 Thelveton, Norfolk
Grace Coale chl Mar 2 1606 Alwington, Devon
Grace Cole b 1607 St Olvae Southwark London
Grace Coale ch Jan 4 1607 Pocklington, Yorkshire
Gratia Cole chl Jan 26 1611 Marytavy, Devon

Christopher Wadsworth was to have been ch. Dec 1 1609 in Heptonstall, Yorkshire, England. Which leads me to believe that of the above, the Grace Coale ,ch. Jan 4 1607 Pocklington, Yorkshire, may have been the best bet. She is the daughter of Thomas Coale and I can find 3 more siblings ( all female) Alse, Dionisse and Elizabeth.
Pocklington to Heptonstall is about 70 miles, so not close but possible.

There is also the possibility that Grace was born in Duxbury, Lancashire where Miles Standish was to have been born. This would also make sense (timing and Pilgrim connection).
SO just wondering if ANYONE has done any more digging into these lines???? Thanks- Diane

I am looking for anyone who may be researching this family - I am trying to determine if this family may be related to my James COLE, born about 1600, in Barnstaple, Devon...

My reasoning is based on the entry for the baptism record (same source as listed above) of Hugh (son of James) in 1628 where the surname is spelled COALE...when the family emigrated, the name was recorded as COLE...

If you are researching COWELL, COALE, or COLE in Barnstaple, Devon, I would like to hear from you...if you have access to the local records in Devon I would LOVE to hear from you!

If you are still looking for information on William Walter Coale and Laura McCann Coale , I can help a bit. Laura's father was from Missouri and her mother was from South Carolina. William Walter Coale had a son, Walter William Coale, born circa 1877, his wife was Mary J. Adkins born circa 1875. Walter William had a daughter, Carol Nellie Coale, born 1911. Carole was my wife's mother. If you match all this then we are related. Hope this helps.

It's a long time later, of course, but do you still have that book? Edward Coale was my great grandfather and I would love to see his records. My mother grew up knowing him and attending the Friends meeting where he was minister.

I am looking for info on Delbert and Effie's children and grandchildren. They are William Walton Coale b. 8/27/1905 in IL, d. 10/24/1954 in Harris Co., Tx., m. Amanda Beasley in IL. William had a son William Edward b. 11/12/1928 and d. 10/21/1950 in North Korea. William also had a daughter Betty L. b about 1927 in IL who married a Davis.

Raymond T. Coale was b. 9/29/1908 in Wood River, Madison Co., IL. He died 12/22/1991 in IL; m. Alpha V. ? b. 12/1915.

Delbert also had a daughter named Rita or Reta born about 1913 in IL. Don't know anymore about her.

Delbert's father was William Harrison Coale b. 7/20/1850 from PA and mother was Martha Harris b. 1/7/1861 in Centralia, Marion Co., IL.. William Harrison Coale's father was Robert S. Coale and mother was Susannah Holsapple.

Anyone know Delbert's family?

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes).

Douglas J. Coale, 54, of Palm City, Fla., and former resident of Terre Haute for many years, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, in his residence after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

He was president and owner of United Security Alarms and Telephone Secretarial Service.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 23 years, Deah Winning Coale of Palm City; daughters, Erin and Lauran; sons, Jack and Evan; parents, Jack and Kathy Coale; one sister, Karla Wimmer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Indiana State University. He was very active in Little League Baseball as well as Youth Football.

Memorial services took place in Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Palm City. The family requests that memorial donations be sent to Aldersgate Church, 5200 S.W. Martin Hwy., Palm City, FL 34990. Cremation services were provided by Martin Funeral Home in Stuart, Fla.

I'm responding to messages of over a year ago about Edward Coale. Edward Coale is my great-grandfather, married to Sarah Ann Moore. HIs son, Arthur, is my grandfather. The Friends Meeting House was in Benjaminville (also called Bentown) near Bloomington, IL. The Book, "The Coale Family: Nine Generations" was written by Edward's grandson, Willis (my uncle). Edward's daughter Mary Elizabeth "Ibbie" Coale Flansburg (Flansburg was in one of the messages) was a sister of Willis. I have a fair amount of information for anyone who wants to contact me. Laura

Dick, As I mentioned, the book Coale Family: Nine Generations was written by my Uncle Willis and he was in our house much of the time while writing it. My father was the printer. I feel a very close connection to the book, plus I have all the original research. I can tell you there is nothing in the research that didn't make it into the book. Thanks for responding. Laura

We're working from the same source - "Coale Family, Nine Generations". So, we probably have much the same information. Edward Coale was my 1st cousin, 4 times removed. His Grandparents, Samuel and Lydia (Pusey) Coale are our common ancesters. My line remained in Maryland - Harford, then Cecil, the Baltimore Counties. My mother is Elisabeth Hallowell Coale, daughter of Skipwith Peyton Coale + Mary Louise Bartlett of Baltimore.

The Jesse Woods Coale I am looking for was born abour 1900 in OK and moved to the lead mining area of southeast Mo he died at the age of 90 + and is buried in the Flat River MO area. He had brothers who may have lived in Texas and CO. His mother's name was Susie Maddox or something similar to that. Does any of this sound familiar. Jesse Woods is certainly unique for a name.

I am seeking information about The Rev. James Johnston Coale and his wife Arabella.

He was licensed and ordained by Baltimore Presbytery. He came to Huntingdon Presbytery to serve the Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church in Tyrone Township, Blair County, PA in 1870. His wife Arabella, was received into church membership on certificate from the Broadway Presbyterian Church of Baltimore. In 1892, Rev. Coale resigned and went to Mt. Holly, NJ to take charge of a school located there.

Their children include:

Grace Elizabeth Coale
Anna W. Coale
James Johnson Coale

I am particularly interested in Arabella's ancestors because her niece, Ellen "Nellie" Jane (Parker) Morrow, is my husband's grandmother. Little is known of the Wiley-Parker family.

You can contact me at dianenwarren@aol.com about the little book. Apparently he went to the Chicago Exposition and wrote extensively about it. Most of the writing is to guess at but it is interesting nonetheless.

Yes, I am interested in this little book. Willie Coale is probably William N. Coale who married Clara L. Bedell on 26 Mar 1884. There was also a Samuel Coale who married on 10 Mar 1875 Alice B. Bedell. I have not previously seen a reference to Edward. Alice and Clara were daughters of Benjamin and Mary Ann (Cook) Bedell. The Friends church was located at Benjaminville. I have the names and dates of birth of their children but nothing further.

This is a message for Carole Flansburg Thomas who was requesting information about Edward Coale. I came across a little book of accounts kept by Stacy Alva Brown in 1890. In this little book, which I bought at a flea market in Scottsboro, AL, are his records of who he worked for and some of his activities. He mentions Willie Coale, C. S. Bedell, Ed Coale, Lewis Coale and W. O. Brown. He went to the Friends Church and mentions Bloomington. If you are interested in this book, please email me.

I have some wonderful pictures of the Quaker Church and the on-ground cemetery in Bentown where Edward, Sarah and lots of family are buried.
