Read your mention of Native Amer in Lyles line. I have concluded that my ancestor Enoch b. abt 1790 must have had a half-blood father, and I believe that father was a son of the Fur trader and ferry operator John. Said John is often called "First white man" to settle in Newberry area, and he married Unknown about 1747--but references that don't give her name indicate she was born in that area. The Broad River was a boundary between the Catawba and the Cherokee--not to play favorites trader John built on an island! His first son was Jesse, but following issue are unnamed, yet John was said to operate the ferry with his "sons." I think John had a John Jr. who fathered my Enoch, & Enoch was 1/4 Native American. Have you any clues pointing this way? May I ask what info inspires your statement re Native American blood in theis line? leyhok@gmail.com
