Any info. on who "Judge Henry Cockrum's" parents were? I am a gg granddaughter of William L Cockrum- born 1818 in MO. lived in McNairy County Tennessee. I believe "Judge Henry Cockrum" living next door to my William L. Cockrum- (1818) on the 1840 census of McNairy County, Tennessee may have been brothers. I have had my dad's DNA done. Any one in "Judge Henry Cockrum's" line had theirs done? If I am all off base let me know that too.

However, I have been doing her family tree for her and need the information to enter it into the tree. I would hope that you wouldn't tell your uncle that you are helping me with this. There are alot of years between us and it is better that it stay that way. Please respect that. If you don't want to help me anymore I do understand that, just let me know. Thanks

Hi Menard,

What is your relationship with the Cockrum's? My grandfather was George Milton Cockrum. He was born Oct 18, 1914. He died Jan 6, 2003 in Klamath Falls,Oregon.

My great-grandparents were Ira Cockrum and Ruby Swick-Cockrum.

My Cockrum side of the family is still a mystery. Do you know anything about by Grandfather or Great-Grandfather Ira Cockrum?

Thanks,
Erika

I am a granddaughter of Houston Jesse Cockrum, 1917-1939

I'm trying to get clarity on who his parents were. What I understood until doing research was that his father was Marion Hugh Cockrum, and his mother was Ruth/Rutha. Some of the information I've found seems to indicate this may not be the case. I'm thinking Ruth may actually have been the grandmother of Myrtle, Houston, and Hazel, and that their father may have been Thomas Robbins. In the 1920 census for Finley, Pushmataha, Oklahoma, I find Thomas and Rittie Robins with their children Myrtle, Huston, and Hazel Robins, living next door to Marion, Rutha, Dawson, and Susie Cockrum. The ages match up to those listed in the 1930 census. I've found a notice for a marriage license issued for T.J. Robbins and Miss Rittie Finley, showing they were married on April 10, 1920 in Pushmataha County. The notice lists the step-father of T.J. Robbins as M. H. Cockrum. Since TJ and Rittie were just married when the 1920 census was done, and the census lists them as having these three children, ages 5,3, and 10 months, one or both could be the parents prior to their marriage. TJ would have been only 14 when Myrtle was born, and Rittie would have been only 15, which could have been the case back then. Since TJ and Rittie aren't listed with the children in the 1930 census, I'm thinking that sometime between 1920 and 1930, Ruth adopted the three children, either formally or informally, and changed their last name to Cockrum. Marion may have adopted them too, since he's who was always said to be their father, but I haven't yet been able to figure that out for sure. I know he died in 1925 and had a lot of legal/criminal issues over the years. What I've written here so far is pretty conservative compared to all the other scenarios I've thought up. I have a pretty good imagination, I'll admit, but I also realize that many families choose to hide or disguise their secrets when they feel it's for the best. I'd love to find someone who might be interested in this "mystery" and any others mysteries we might have in common through our families or interest in genealogy. I also have some old family photos that might shed some light or be of interest.

Ok for Benjamin or Benjamim I have:
Benjamin d. aug. 28,1789 so we can eliminate him.
Benjamin d. Jan. 1816 no birthdate so he could have died soon after marriage I suppose.
I then have one born in 1792 which would be too early
Then two more born in the 1900's which would make them born to late.

However the man who died in Aug. 1789 above died in Edgefield Dist. SC. He died leaving behind a son:
James Cockrum b. Abt. 1774 who died in Muhlenburg Co., Kentucky on 10 Feb 1810.

James married Catherine and they had 7 children. However we only have names for 2 of the 7.
Benjamin Briant Cockrum b. 15 Sep 1792 In NC taken from the census only (those are sometimes very wrong) and he d.
20 Dec 1871 again told in Novalty, MO. (this info. could be wrong)
James C. Cockrum b. 1802 no places at all.
It is possible that these two could have mixed up information......In other words James dob could belong to Ben and Ben's could belong to James..............
***I have not had time to check this info. out that well on my own. This info. was found and given to me!
Also on the census there listed by talley marks
Two more sons and three girls..........................
Does this hold any clues for you at all.
I am also getting that link for you to the Cockerham DNA study site.
