Hello Sandie,

I was hoping to maybe connect with you and figure out Richard's line. There has been some confusion with another researcher.She believes Richard went to America with his brother Henry, but she also has him dying there as well. Also, would like to confirm other data I have as well on your line, to keep me from going to far in the wrong direction. I would appeciate the help.

Hello Sandie,
I got my info. from ancestry.com census listings and
BMD listings from England. There was a possiblity of wrong info. or conflicting info.
I am sorry for that.
Would you be able to fill in the rest of Bertha and Richard's line, would like to know about the rest of Thelma's siblings. I was lead to believe their were 7 daughter's.
I can e-mail you the info. I have and you can add to it or correct it. That would be great.

hello.. my grandmother was bertha perry and my mother was thelma perry and father frederick gerald,i am sandra with a brother david, only never married anyone of the name kieth cocks,but do have a cousin from hayle also named sandra clemens so you might be getting me mixed up with her...

Thelma Perry married Frederick G. Clemens in 1953
They had a daughter Sandra Clemens, b. 1955 who married
Keith N Cocks in 1973
Sandra and Keith had a son Matthew Frederick Cocks in 1978.

I'm looking for information on the COCKS and CHARLWOOD families, likely of Berkshire.

My 5x great-grandmother was Susanah COCKS who married WIlliam CHARLWOOD 23 May 1727 in Binfield, Berks.

Their children were:

Susanna, 1728, Binfield
William, 1733, Binfield
Thomas, 1737, Binfield

There may also have been a John, but I've yet to locate his birth/baptism.

COCKS Japhia & his wife Ann nee POLLARD sailed on D'Auvergne in 1838-39 from London Port Adelaide Australia, and seem to have had three children in the 1840s; Alice, Anne and Benjamin. Japhia died at Hindmarsh 1890.

I am interested in contacting any descendants in Australia. I am a descendant of Japhia's sister Hephzibah and have the Cocks family bible, old letters and a lot of other information about the family left behind in England.

William's son was John who married Elizabeth Moring in 1789.( William died in 1892).His son was Nicholas, was born in 1808, and married Susanna Champion who was born in 1811. Mine are from The Bredon Hill arwa ~ Ashton-Under-Hill and Sedgeberrow, specifically, so far.

There's a good chance that a lot of the Goucestrershire Neals are related, but yours don't look familiar, I'm afraid.

I once read that the name Neale (Neil, Neal, Etc) came from Ireland, via (Viking)Scandinavia and Normany to England up the River Severn ~ and so to Gloucestershire.

Neale is quite copmmon in Gloucestershire.

My Neale ancestors were born in that county ~ but near the Worcestershire border, and my family's village has now been re-classified as Worcestershire.

I am researching my family line for "Cocks". At first I had troubles locating anything back farther than my Grandparents. Then I discovered that the surname was changed from "Cock" in England to "Cocks" in Canada.

Susanna Cocks - Surry, VA

I'm looking for information on a Susanna Cocks who married a Hamlin Bryant per the Virginia Marriages 1746-1850 database on ancestry.com. The family lived in Surry County, VA.

By the 1850 census, Hamlin was married to an Elizabeth Davis, so I can't say when Susanna was born or when she died. I do know the family was in Surry County in 1830, and per the 1830 census she was listed as between 30 and 40 years old (making her birth date between 1790 and 1800). She's likely closer to 30 as Hamlin was listed as between 20 and 30 years old.

There are other Cocks/Cocke families listed in Surry County in the 1802 census, so it's likely she is from there. But I don't know this to be true.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a William Henry Cocks born in England m. Henrietta Beatrice Pasco Reynolds. They were the first white settlers to be married in Northern, BC, Canada. I believe that both the Cocks and Reynolds fathers were Sea Captains. Also, Grandma Reynolds used to talk of her family in the US and England. Not sure if there is any connection. I am having difficulty on both of these lines so I am hoping to find a connection somewhere.

I have little to go on other than my Grandfathers name was William Deeble Cocks b. 22 Feb 1915 in Smithers, BC, Canada. He was the only child to William Henry Cocks and Henrietta Beatrice Pasco Reynolds. William and Henrietta were the first white settlers married in Northern BC. My ancestry account does not provide for access to Canadian or English records. I am also looking for information about my family surname Cocks. My grandfather was William Deeble and he married June V. Giddings. They lived in Northern BC Canada for many years and it is rummoured that Williams parents were the first white settlers married in the area. I cannot find my Great Granmother between the 1881 and 1901 censuses
1881 her surname is 'Cox'
1901 her surname is Cocks.
I know her husband,Richard, died in 1889.
I can find no trace of her or her children on the 1891 census.
Any ideas please?

Sorry to have taken so long to reply. There does not seem to be a connection, my grandfather, Charles (Charley) Cocks, was born 22 Jun 1851, came to the US in Jul 1858, married Margaret Pickens, lived in Jersey City, NJ and died 4 Feb 1914.
The farthest back I can trace the family is to John Cocks and Bridget (Leake) Cocks who "lived on a farm near the town of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England. They were married on 14 May 1759 in Ewerby, Lincoln, England.

I'm looking for any information regarding the Cocks family. William Cocks was a Sawyer born in Hampton Wick in 1816. He married Eliza in 1838 and had 6 children: William (1840), Samuel (1841), Charles (1843), George (1852), Thomas (1853) and Rebecca (1855) - All born in Kingston upon Thames.
I am specifically interestested in the parents of William Cocks and any details about Rebecca, but any information on any of the above would be appreciated.

My GGG Charles Cocks came from England,(London) married Ida Mae Clark in Iowa, then settled in Harrison Mo. He passed away in 1911, at Family traditions indicate he had 2 family members whom attended Cambridge Jesus College, whether they are brothers or cousins it is undetermined- He later in life spent his time as an Intinerant Minister, rode in a very handsome buggy, wore stiff pressed suits, and always had white gloves on- quite the sight in Missouri- His horse Coallie, was a stunning animal- the horse died the same day Charles did. COCKS, JOHN GEORGE May 20, 1922 to Feb. 25, 2003 John George Cocks, 80, of Lemon Grove, died Tuesday. He was born in Beaumont, Texas and retired from W.F. Maxwell Construction as a carpenter. Mr. Cocks was a volunteer at Chollas Lake in San Diego and a longtime friend of Ranger Dick Whitmore. He built much of the playground equipment at that site. John ' s Lake Vista is named in his honor. For his efforts he received recognition awards in 1986 from Councilwoman Gloria McCall and City Manager Jack McCory. In 1988, he was recognized as Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce and presented with a Leadership Award by Ed Quinn, General Manager of KGTV Channel 10. Mr. Cocks was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Bell from West Virginia. Survivors include his son, Michael Quesenberry, of Lemon Grove, and two grandchildren, Michael and Rebecca. No services will be held. Arrangements Bayside Cremation and Burial Service.

I was antique shopping yesterday in the Mission District of San Francisco and noticed that there were some old late 1800s famiily photos labeled "Cocks". They were of a Cocks matriarch (very stern looking with dark hair and what is sometimes called a "horsey" face) and her grown sons and she was holding a baby in one photo.
