Baldony-Coco of Avoyelles Parish research questions

I'd like to see if someone might be able to help with some questions...

1.	Does anyone have a copy of the marriage certificate (or equivelent) or, the actual 1783 Diocese Record (French or English) of the marriage of Dominique Baldony dit Coco and Elizabeth Rabalais? Is this where the names of his parents originally come from? (I'd prefer the actual scan of the document, versus a transcription, because I want to clear up some inconsistencies I keep finding in posted family trees that use this as a source, but with different and conflicting information claiming to be from the same source.)

2.	Is there better, reliable birth and death information for the same Dominique Coco than simply: "b. abt 1757, d. 1787-1789", or, literally dying "Somewhere between October 1787 - September of 1789"? (There is no year of birth listed on his "marriage record” with Elizabeth Rabalais that would allow for a calculation of birth that I have seen so far. The U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 source does not have a year of birth listed for him, but does list hers.)

3.	Where is Dominique (b. abt 1757) Baldony dit Coco's burial and marker in Mansura, and does it not have dates on it? Does anyone have photos of this?

4. Where did Dominique Baldony and Jeanne Bouquierre-Baldony end up, and where are they buried? What is the source of their unsourced estimates of place and year of birth?

5. There are some photos reportedly posted to a private family tree on Ancestry maintained by someone that clearly bars the ability to contact them... Does anyone else have photos that they are indeed willing to share of the early Baldony-Coco ancestry?

There is information floating around about the Baldony-Coco Family ancestry that seemingly comes out of thin air, with no clear sources and document copies. Family legends aside (like Baldony coming to America to help General LaFayette and the Americans fight the British in the American Revolution; the "L'Homme de Coco" story; Joseph being captured by Indians), I want to try and cut through the inconsistencies, omissions and errors and not perpetuate them down the line if I can.

Many thanks,
Richard

Hi there! I am Brandy CoCo, 30 years old and the original grand-daughter of Floyd (Samuel) CoCo, who married Mary around 1940-"ish."

All of the people named in post's subject line are dead now. I am the only one left living as of a few years ago. I am hoping to find some relatives here who can help me learn about the family mentioned above.

I know Floyd and Mary were both siblings of many. If you know them, you knew they lived in Baltimore after WW2/K era. We were devowed Catholics. If any of this stuff sounds like the CoCo's you knew from MD, please contact me so we can chat.

Thanks in advance, Brandy CoCo

Hello,

I've forwarded your info to a Coco cousin who was doing genealogy. As far as I know they were stumped at Similien; couldn't find out who his parents where. Can you tell me what information you have on Adelina and Similien, that they were brother/sister?

Also have you seen the digital copy of the Coco genealogy (white) that is available at http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cdm4/document.php?CISOROOT=/FH3....

If you can't follow that link simply type Family History Archive in Google and then search for Coco.

Also AnnJean at http://boards.tiscali.ancestry.co.uk/surnames.coco/13/mb.ash... was doing some research.

Michelle Cadoree Bradley

Hi Laura,

While researching my genealogy, I came across your post from 10 years ago. I don’t really have any info on the Peter Coco you’re looking for, but I think it’s possible that his father was my great-great grandfather.

Peter Coco and Santa Nuzi were my great-great grandparents. Their daughter, Maddalena Coco Bagnasco, was my great grandmother. She was born January 30, 1857 in Palermo and died February 18, 1913 in Astoria, Queens, NY. Unfortunately I do not have any details on siblings, but I think she might be the sister of your Peter, especially since his daughter’s name was also Santa.

Don’t know if this will even reach you, but there were too many similarities to be a coincidence. Good luck with your search.

Jeanne Bagnasco Stephen
I am just reading your message at this late date. After not being able to go any furter with Similien Coco I started working on another family. We have all his muster records from the service, but no where does it list a mother or father. These documents came from the archives in Washington, DC. No, I do not gave a copy of what you have. I would appreciate any help possible. My sister spoke to a Decuir that was working with genealogy and he said no one had ever ask him about our family. My e-mail address is annmjean@aol.com. Prehaps you could tell me where I could find this information that you have. Thanking you in advance .
Ann Marie Coco Jean

I am descended from Dominic Coco and his wife Caroline Bordelon, through their daughter Corinne Ann Coco. I went to family archives and looked at the Genealogy. I have a copy of the original done by Edgar Coco and my great aunt Helen Fox Drell. There are a number of errors in it.
1. Dominic Coco had a trading post in the Red River Valley in Louisiana where he got the name L'Homme De Coco. In fact it is on his Marriage Certificate. He did not come over with Lafayette. 2. Joseph moved to Opelousas where he married and had a child. He died not long after the child (a boy) was born. 3. There is a daugther of Dominic Coco II that is not even mentioned. And there are some other errors.
I have the information if any one wants it.

My Coco family was from Trecastagne (sp?) and Catania. As far as I can tell, My great-grandfather, Antonio Coco (born 1867) had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. They all lived in Chicago sometime after 1900.

Does this connect with any info you have?

Jennifer

Hello, I know it's been quite a while since you posted this so I'm hoping that you are still checking it.
My husband's family was from Campofelice di Roccella, Sicily also. Their name "Lanza". My husband's grandfather, Joseph Lanza had a sister Josephine that married a "Coco". Joseph was born in 1892 and came to America in 1905 and went to the Pittsburgh, PA area first and then later to Ohio.
