Phylis,
Good to hear from you. Lincolnshire is a new site for Codes for me. My father's (Francis Code) parents were James Code, a timber merchant whose family were from Neurie (not sure of spelling), Norther Ireland, and Rafferty, Dublin.
Interestingly, my sone is called William (Bill), and it's a 'family name, as is Christopher.
I occassional have to search for citations for things I write (I'm an academic) and come across a Charles Code, whose a well know American physiologist, who write a great deal.
I was recently in Dartmouth, a small part here in Devon, and came across a plaque which includes the name Robert Code, who was a wealthy burger of the town. He dies in the reign of henny VIII and left 11 houses to the parish. His name crops up in local history books.
But there are many spellinmgs of Code, as I mentioned. I was in Sydney for about 6 years, and there are quite a few there, whose families probably came over as convicts from Ireland (political prisoners actually) or settlers.
Thre are few Codes in England, but some in Liverpool. My Dad always insists that John McNally, who was rythem guitarist with the 60s Liverpool group The Searchers (big over here them, but I dont think they made it in the US) was a cousin! But he (my dad) has the gift of the gab sometimes, and you cant always believe his stories!
