I have no definite connection between Lucy and Cecelia except that Coen sounds like Cohen. I do know that Lucy had at least one sister and I do know that Lucy with her son, John Roddy, visited that sister in 1892. The Ellis Island files listed Lucy & John as returning on the Ship City of New York and docking on October 6, 1892. The passenger list names John Roddy as being 23 years of age, male and a laborer. His last residence was Queen's County. Lucy is listed as 60, female, a servant and her last residence as Queen's County. I can find no record of Lucy or John getting a passport. Was she traveling on her Irish passport? Maybe that is why she is listed as a servant. She owned several houses at that time and as far as I know was not working. John died in 1897. The sea voyage was suppose to make him healthier but it wasn't too successful.
All this is to tell you that I was tracing Cecelia in hopes of finding more information about my great grandmother, Lucy. Have I?

Thank you James...not sure what happened or what I did with a reply from you. Good luck on finding info on those 109 great grandkids, whew, that should keep you busy for a year or so.

I will have to crack through the brick wall on my COIN / COEN's ancestral line in order to know if my line connects to yours. As more and more archives are added online, and more researchers create trees, something may turn up.

My favorite method working on a brick wall is to 'go in the back door' so to speak, by being sure I've followed the female and male marriages of children on back ...and that sometimes leads to a Tree and research (Ancestry.com 'hints') on a branch that (sometimes) leads back to a common line of mine. Sometimes those branches are hard to find just by following your own direct line.

If you and your wife have ancestors that were in MO, AR and TN you may find the same situation my spouse and I have, in that we have common cousin matches. I know that in the end we all are cousins, but in our case ...and no doubt the same with other couples...the families migrating together or along similar routes really mixed it up and have created closer cousin kinships than I would have expected for me and my spouse.

Back to work....I'm betting our COEN line has a connection, but it may be hard to find.

Thanks again...Audrey

Yes. I am still using the excite.com email address.

I replied to your e-mail dated 8-19-2012.

There were an abundance of Coen's in MO.

This was my reply to your e-mail, in case you did not get it.

Hi, My names is James Coen. I am Logan's father. We used his DNA to match both sides of the family.

I do not see Mrs. Whittens connection in FTDNA.

But, if she is Logan's 5th cousin, then they would have a GGGGGrandparent in common. I will give you what I have.

Abaslom Coen-Born 26 Mar 1790 Harford County, Maryland-Died 28 Apr 1848 Reddington, Jackson Co., Indiana.
Jane Wilkenson-Born 13 mar 1794 Virginia-Died 11 Apr 1856 Reddington, Jackson Co., Indiana

John Watt-Born 24 Aug 1782, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania-Died 08 Fef 1854, Warren County, Kentucky
Elizabeth Lowden-Born 31 Jan 1788, Maryland-Died 18 Feb 1862 Warren County, Kentucky

At this time, this is all I have.

There were a lot of Coen's in Missouri so there is a possible connection, but I have not done much on that line yet.
Still trying to connect to the 109 GreatGrand Kids my GreatGrandfather Samuel Coen had according to his obit.

My wife and I both have ancestors from TN, AR, and MO.

If I find something I will let you know.

Thanks.
James Coen.

Thomas Croucher Hudson-Born 12 Oct 1811 Allen Co., Kentucky-Died Barry Co., Missouri
Elizabeth Perriman
James...are you still using the same 'excite' email address? and/or still active on this board?

I emailed you recently regarding my mother's FFinder and you and your COEN line. Mother, b 1920 AR, to a WASHBURN father b 1897 St Louis MO, born to Robert E. WASHBURN b 1864 Christian Co MO to a Union soldier Seth Emory WASHBURN (b NY, lived in IL) and Louisa "Lula" Jane COIN / COEN / COWAN while she was still married to James BOLIN / BOLEN.

Her father was James COIN, a wagon maker and blacksmith well known in that area of MO in and near Christian Co and Greene Co MO. James COIN is said to have been born in Hawkins Co (perhaps Grainger Co) TN and had more than one wife. Hannah "Nancy" SPENCER is the mother of Louisa Jane COIN. I have some more info...would like to compare and discuss genealogies because you are showing a 5th to distant kinship to my mother.

I should tell you that Mother's lines are old on paternal and also maternal lines...(and I've DNA tested where I can) and so are my husband's whom I have Y-DNA tested, as well as FFinder. (I've also tested his BROCK line).

Mother and my STANALAND spouse are showing multiple common cousin matches in a close to distant range. Their own kinship to each other is a bit too distant to show up on Family Finder...but their common matches are 2nd to 4th, and 5th to distant.

I do have a public tree on Ancestry...titled STANALAND and WILLIAMS (WILMS) ROOTS

I am searching for more information on a COEN or CONE family that may have been from County Mayo.

Patrick COEN, b. 1814, married Catherine WALSH abt. 1840. They had 5 children:
Thomas, b. 1841
Catherine, b. 1845
Ann, b. 1846
Maria, b. 1847
Patrick, b. 1852.
The family moved to Yorkshire, England at some point and appeared in the 1861 England Census, with the surname as CONE. Some of the children had indicated in later records that their birthplace was County Mayo.

I saw your message, but I am a bit confused. Cecelia Farrell married Peter Crean (mispelled on translation of marriage certificate) in Ireland, then the family moved to the US and lived in NYC. Is your Lucy's maiden name Farrell or married name? Unfortunately I know nothing of Cecelia's family and there are no Lucy's down the line that I know of. (just thinking usually children are named after parents siblings or other relatives) Would really like to see a connection....

I just happened on your message. I am not sure but I thought that Cecelia was Lucy's sister. I know that Lucy had a sister who stayed in Ireland. Lucy visited her in 1892 with her son, John. My Lucy was born in 1832 or 33. I am not sure where. I do know that she sponsored other immigrants when they came to America. My mother remembered Lucy's going to NYC with her house deed in order to sponsor people. I don't know if they were family or friends. I think Lucy was a small woman. I do know she had red hair. Any red hair in your family?
My husband was a Kelly. I was a Joyce.

It's ok, sometimes it takes time to find connections. So far, it's been 4 years, but I haven't really come across anything else to lead me in any other directions. I keep meaning to look into the areas in Ireland more, but I kept postponing in hopes that I could come up with something else to help with my search and so I'd know when I hit the correct family. Do you know anything about your grandfather's family?

I'm quite a bit late coming to the discussion and I regret missing you both by 4 years. I may be related as well. My mother was Mary Coen (nee) Her Father, John Coen, was from the same area you mentioned- Ballyhaunis.
Kilvendoney, Hollymount, to be exact. My Grandfather, John, was born in the 1880's. He married Ellen Maloney and settled in the Robeen Parish in Kilvendoney about 1900. My mother, Mary, emigrated to Philadelpia in 1949.

He lived in Manhattan with wife Jennie, daughters Lena and Ann, and son Benjamin in 1900 and 1910. It is believed he abandoned the family after 1911 and moved to Waukegan, Illinois. He had at least one sister in the Chicago area, whose family I have found.

Any info would be of help. Thank you!

I'm searching for any information on COEN surname. My grandfather William Harrison Coen was a Blacksmith, maybe in Longpine, Brown County NE. He was married to Edna Ethel (Gilson) Coen. I know that at least one of their children Lottie Mae was born in Longpine, NE. 4 April 1914. This family travelled. I also know that Samuel Coen was a Brother of William. I'm trying to locate information on any Coen in the NE. area. You help is appreciated.

Dear Family,

Let me introduce myself...my name is Barbara Jean Wellman Buchner

I am a descendant of Levi Coen.

Levi Coen (Great Great Great Grandfather)

William Gatton Coen (Great Great Grandfather)

Lydia Armettie Coen Andrews (Great Grandmother)

Esther Ellen Andrews Wellman (Grandmother)

Eldon Vern Wellman (Father)

Barbara Jean Wellman Buchner (me)

My Dad (Eldon Wellman) has several old photo albums that the pictures have fallen out of photo albums. Some have loose pictures or pictures that are permanently glued to the paper. I’m trying to redo the scrapbooks before any other pictures fall out or get lost along the way. Some pictures were cut to fit into the books, so we have only half the info.
It’s quite a project. But I want to get the pictures labeled while dad is here and can journal information about most of the pictures and before more family members are gone and we don’t have them to ask.

In the course of organizing some old family photos so I can put them in my family history book I have come across several pictures that are not labeled and he does not remember who these individuals are. I am wondering if I could send pictures to you via email with the hopes that someone would be able to recognize family members and help me identify the pictures. Also I could learn alittle bit more about the Coen Family for my Family History Scrapbook. I do not know what side of the family these individuals are on (my mom's - Mallery, Bergh, Ruedebusch, Lloyd or my dad’s - Wellman, Coen, Andrews) or if they even are family members- maybe just friends. Also if anyone knows the around what year the pictures were taken & the occasion. I’m trying to get the pictures labeled so that they might mean something to someone later on instead of a box of pictures that I inherited that we don’t know who the people are.

Hoping someone can help me with my unidentified photos & family history project.

Thank you for your time and your consideration.

Have a wonderful day.

Barb :)

Barb :)
If you check the Minnesota 1895 Census Roll V290_101 Line 27, you will find Levi living with Sarah's parents Andrew Wood, 62, b. NY, Sarah Wood 63, b. PA., Earnest Wood, 21, b.WI and then Claude Coen 19 b. WI - Child of Levi's wife Anna HOWER. Then Ray & Roy Coen both 9 b. WI, William Coen 3 b. MN and then Levi Coen 43, b. MN. Sarah died after the birth of William I believe. Bruce McGill has answered the question about Levi's parents. I descend from Levi's son Charles Gatton. I hope this helps you. Helen

I don't know about Sarah Anna Wood, but Levi's parents were Levi Alexander Coen and Delilah Brewer. The info I have says that Sarah died, or was separated from Levi, soon after. Levi Carlton married Anna Hower on 15 May 1873.

Levi Sr was the son of Eli Coen and Martha, or Marsha, Coen. He was born in Monroe Co. Ohio in 1810, and died in 1889 in Ansley, Custer Co., Nebraska.

I have a fairly extensive pedigree for Delilah Brewer. It goes back to 1000 or so, but I have no idea of its authenticity.
