Re: Coffee (Ambrose) Line

There are at least a couple of Ambrose COFFEEs who had sons or siblings named: Raleigh, Rolly, Rolley, Rawley etc.

I descend from Rolly COFFEE:

BORN: 27 December 1804, Slate Creek, near present-day Mt. Sterling, Montgomery Co., KY
DIED: 8 March 1873, Missouri

Rolly and his wife/family left Kentucky for Morgan Co., Missouri.

My Rolly is the son of Ambrose COFFEE, born 1755.
Rolly married Alia/Anne ANDERSON.

See Rolly's tombstone. If this link doesn't work below, then go to "findagrave" and search for "Rolly Coffee."

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=co...;

Does your husband descend from this Rolly? If not, perhaps another reader will send you info on the other Rolly(s).

If we have a match, please list the names of your husband's grandfather, great-grandfather etc. and from which of Rolly's children your husband descends.

And I don't know of any relation to Gen. COFFEE to this Rolly. However, Rolly's dad, Ambrose, fought with Daniel Boone and was one of the first settlers in that part of Virginia that later became Kentucky--near Fort Boonesborough. They are airing old episodes of Daniel Boone on TV but I've yet to catch a mention of Ambrose... (just kidding!)

Happy New Year to all COFFEE researchers!

Hi, Ithas been a long time since you wrote this but i have to reply. I hope maybe we can figure something out here, because my grandfather was a Foote and his mom and father were also in the same area. otsego michigan and kalamazoo michigan. Also East Jordan michigan. Could you get back with me on my e-mail and let me no if you have any other names. I have a Francis,Christopher, Elmer, Martin,Hilon, Frank, Foote. And Almeda Slater,Rose Ardell Smith,Slater,Hood,. And Charlotte Parker (Foote). My grandfather was born in Gaylord Otsego Michigan and lived there till he came to Saginaw when he was older. I think 16 or so. He was Fredrick Martin Foote. His brother was Hilon Foote, sister was Vernice Foote, Married Earl Stafford and moved to Grayling. Christopher and Charlotte were his grandparents. Almeda was grandpas mom and his father was Elmer Foote. Almeda's mom was Rose Ardell Smith or Slater or Hood. She was married a lot. Her sister was Celia Slater whom married a Charles Armstrong and they lived in kalamazoo i believe. Do you happen to connect with any of these names? I hope something comes of this. Please E-mail me at blablabootwo@yahoo.com if you would like to find out anything or if maybe you can let me know something more than what i have so far.
Lafayette Jackson Coffee

Searching for descendants of Lafayette Jackson Coffee known to have lived in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.

Lafayette Jackson Coffee was a son of Lilburn Jackson and Lucinda Sutton Coffee. He was born Sep. 13, 1866 in Hope, Hempstead Co., AR and died Jun. 19,1950 in Burke, Angelina Co., TX.

He married an English lady by the name of Florry [sic] c1903 and had at least three children:

George Jackson Coffee, born c1904, married Nora Davis. Children were Muriel, born c1928; Arthur, born c1929; Doris, born c1931; and George, born c1933.

Lafayette had at least one other sibling, Albert, born Oct., 1862 in Hope, married Lula Belle Melson on Apr. 12, 1891 in Hope. They had at least one child, Lola, born c1895.

I suspect that Albert and Lula were deceased after the 1900 census and before the 1920 census. Their daughter Lola was bound in the household with Lafayette's family in the 1910 census in DeSoto Parish, LA.

Thanks!

Jack

Descendants of Lafayette Jackson COFFEE - Aug 19, 2008
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Generation

1. Lafayette Jackson COFFEE was born on 13 Sep 1866 in Hope, Hempstead Co., AR.1 On 12 Jun 1900 he lived in Texarkana, Bowie Co., TX in the household with his mother. He died of nephritis in Burke, Angelina Co., TX on 19 Jun 1950.1

In 1900 Lafayette reported his age as 43 yrs., born Sep., 1856. His death certificate, although a bit faded, reports his birth as Sep. 13, 186?. The last digit could be 5, but has more characteristics of the number 6.

In any event, his age at death on Jun. 19, 1950 was given as 83 yrs., 8 mos., and 6 days. That calculates to a birthdate of Sep. 13, 1866.

Lilburn's first wife Sarah did not die until 1860 and, he did not marry Lucinda until 1861. Their first child was born in 1862, likely while Lilburn was away in the Civil War. Lilburn probably returned home in 1863 or '64 following the surrender at Vicksburg.

That timeline suggests that Lafayette was born in 1866 and not in 1856.

He was buried on 20 Jun 1950 in Garden of Memories Park, Lufkin, Angelina Co., TX.1

Lafayette Jackson COFFEE and Florry (?) __________ were married about 1903. They appeared in the census on 9 May 1910 in DeSoto Parish, LA.2 They appeared in the census on 8 Apr 1930 in Diboll, Angelina Co., TX.3 Florry (?) __________ was born about 1887 in Texas. Lafayette Jackson COFFEE and Florry (?) __________ had the following children:

+2	i.

Ambrose Coffee Sr. is my gggg-grandfather. I am descended through his daughter, Rebecca Jane who married William Stuart Lykins. You can view some of the info I have about him at my posted family tree on Ancestry.com at this link: http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/pedigree.aspx?tid=6245538&p...

His son William, who it seems you are descended from, can be found on the 1860 Census for Magoffin County, Licking Station Post Office, Dwelling 190 as a 75yo Baptist Preacher. His wife Elizabeth, 73, was a midwife. In the 1850 Census for Morgan County, William is listed as a 65yo farmer. There is a 20yo named Amos living with him in 1850 as a farm laborer, who could be his son or possibly even his grandson. I have more details about Ambrose and his immediate descendants that I can send to you if you like.

Re: Ethel Coffee of Loraine, TX 1917

I am sure Ethel Coffee is a descendant of John James Coffee. That line of my Coffee fmaily is buried in the Lorraine City Cemetery in Lorraine Texas.

John James Coffee (1833-1927) was my great grandfather Joshua David Coffee's (1839-1915) older brother. They came to Fannin County Texas in 1855 and settled in the Orangeville Community. Following the strife in the area after the civil war, John James Coffee moved his family to McDonald County Missouri in 1867. He retuned to Fannin County Texas about 1877. In 1878, John James and my great grandfather moved to Brown County Texas. John James Coffee married Nancy Lamberson in Fannin County in 1856. Joshua David Coffee married Mary Lou Blanton in Fannin County in 1860. In 1861, both men served in Col. H.E. McCulloch's 14th Brigade, Orangeville Home Guard, Texas State Troops. In July, 1863, when the Texas State Troops were called into regular Confederate service, Joshua David Coffee enlisted as a teamster in Capt. John Henry Damron's Company, Lt. Col. Peter C. Hardeman's 1st Texas Cavalry Battalion (Arizona Brigade) and was assigned to Brig. Gen. Richard Montgomery Gano's Texas Cavalry Brigade, C.S.A. Joshua served in North Texas and saw no action. In May 1864, Joshua Coffee was reassigned to Maj. James Roberson Diamond's Brush Battalion, Col. James Bourland's Frontier Regiment, C.S.A. Until the end of the war, Joshua Coffee remained at a bivouac near what was then called "Oxford Lake" in Collin County, 3-miles northwest of Farmersville, Texas.

He is kin to the Coffees buried in Tennga Georgia(Murray Co.) Elisha is one of them.

His wife was Martha Elizabeth Stanford

His son was Floyd Hellvixon Coffee and Floyd had Clara Lavonia Coffee(died in TN) who was my father's grandmother. Just wondering if these folks are connected to the Virginia Coffeys and Coffeytown.

I know this is an old post, but did you ever find the info you needed on Wm Coffee? If not, could it be William Saunders Coffey who married Elizabeth Schuhler. I have also seen it spelled Schooler, Shooler, etc. They lived in TX and had 13 kids that I know of.
There is a lot of info on the family.
Kathy Coffee Simmons
